This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset.  Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night.  The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant.     Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there.  Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the  campsite area.  I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides.  Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81.  I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

Brand new custom high end "glamping" cabin nestled along the Cacapon River. Cacapon River is one of the cleanest rivers in West Virginia. The name Cacapon was given by the native americans for the healing aspects of the water. The cabin is located on the famous Riverdale Farm property that was home of Captain David Pugh. Captain Pugh was the last person to sign succession papers to make West Virginia a state. As we say, " West Virginia started here". The property was home of one of the first schools in West Virginia, the local post office and the Hook's Mill. People have traveled to this farm to enjoy camping and outdoor leisure since the 1830s. Bob was such a wonderful and gracious host. I lost one of my beagles, and he helped me get the word out quickly, online. Thankfully we found her, none the worse for the wear! In fact I think she had a great time. The camp sites are well laid out and I think this would be a great place for a group.

We loved camping at the Harmon Homestead! Extremely quiet and relaxing. Friendly hosts that go the extra mile to make your stay amazing. When you go ask to meet the animals. They have goats, pigs, chickens, emu, and the friendliest pup who may come to say hello. Highly recommended.

Arrived after dark. The signage was not clear but quickly found a spot (open field) and set up camp. Didn’t download directions to Old Rag but found it quickly with directions from the lodge. Dinner buffet style at the lodge was fantastic. Overall a great camping adventure!!!

We had an incredible stay during our family trip. We originally booked for two nights but ended up extending another day because we didn’t want to leave. We came as a family of four with two little kids, and this place exceeded all our expectations. The property is beautiful with incredible views and great amenities, you really don’t need to leave. Our kids especially loved the arcade, the pumpkin carving, and the zip line. The tiny home was spotless, well kept, and the welcome basket with snacks, wine, and s’mores kit was such a nice touch. We had the pleasure of the owners who were warm and hospitable. Their recommendation to visit the Farmers Daughter shop was spot-on, the burgers, sausages, and steak were fantastic. Quiet, relaxing, and perfect for families or couples. We’re already planning our next trip. Highly recommend, 5 stars!

He moved us to the spacious #7 campsite at no additional charge, and we never had to talk to another person while we were camping.
