Weekday Construction: We are building our future home near the center of the property. During normal business hours (generally Monday-Friday), you may occasionally hear or see construction activity in this central area. Because the property is over 235 acres, there are numerous quiet camping locations well away from the construction zone. Even during construction, only one Hipcamp reservation is accepted at a time, so your group continues to enjoy exclusive access to the property.
Occasionally, foresters, environmental specialists, or USDA/Virginia Department of Forestry personnel may visit to monitor the forest or ongoing conservation projects.
Visible wildlife trail cameras are used solely to monitor wildlife and property conditions—they are never hidden and are not intended for guest surveillance.

We are an officially permitted and licensed, by the State of Virginia, campground.

We have a Charcoal Grill (includes spatula, tongs and turning fork) available to rent for $10 (fee is for entire length of stay).
Come camp on the peaceful banks of the Cowpasture river. This is a great place to come to get away from the noise and just relax. The river depth along the property ranges from a few inches to 6ft. Most sites offer partial shade. Open field area for playing games. Large communal fire pit beside the river. We also have a communal Shelter that has two booth style tables under it.
Nearby places of interest including Falling Springs waterfall, Humpback Bridge, Lake Moomaw, Douthat State Park...all within less than an hours drive.
Only a few minutes from the closest town, incase you need food, supplies, fuel, etc.
Please note that not all cellular providers have service at this location. I know that Verizon does.

Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.
Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent.
Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids.
Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them.

We are close enough that if you need a cup of sugar or a telephone, we’re here for you—but we won’t intervene in your stay unless invited to, such as for a live guitar singalong by the fireside ;-) If you stay up late howling at the moon, or if your dog barks at wildlife late at night, you’re far enough away that we won’t be bothered.
The property fronts a serene creek with truly pristine water. Due to the remoteness of the area, there is no industry or population density to pollute it. It’s perfect for cooling off on a warm day, trying your luck at fishing, or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water.
There are multiple large, semi-level areas perfect for setting up tents or parking self-contained RVs, giving you plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home. We flattened out a creekside 9x10’ tent site.

This is a great spot for mountain bikers and river lovers. So close to snowshoe and affordable makes this an easy decision. Also the wildlife, flowers, and river on the property make this a truly powerful place. There is some traffic and noise from the road but it quiets down through the night and all you can hear is the trickle of the stream.
We have a lovely 20 acre are that has easy to pull up to camp sites and some that take a short walk but are able to camp right near the river bed. We offer camping for all ranges of groups and travelers. We have campsites for tents, cars and vans, big RV's and Trailers, and then group sized sites. The hosts were so accommodating and very friendly. Great with communication as we made our way there. We stayed at site rv11 which provided a large space attached to an open field. There is a big tree for shade. Water and electric hookups provided. Good WiFi allowed us to keep track of the World Cup soccer which was great! We were right near the river which offered lovely background sound. Our pups loved romping in the water in the river as well. The bathrooms/showers were very clean. The campground was close to some great hikes which is what drew us there. Loved st Mary’s falls (holiday weekend so super busy) and also Crabtree Falls trail. Both close by and great hikes. There was mention of the train track nearby but trains passed very infrequently and also the sound was muffled by the river and the woods so if anything we found it very pleasant, romantic soft background sound. I think only 2 trains in the several days we were there.

This is a great site on Ashlee’s farm. She communicated well and very friendly. There are two sites one is a camper on site they rent. The other is a power enabled site for a camper RV. We had our own camper. They have run a hose to the site from their home to fill if needed.
The entry is down hill from the road but manageable and site is fairly level with level blocks lots of room to turn around on the field.
They have goats, chickens, small pigs, and guineas a dog named whisky but cutest are her 3 children who did chores as part of the farm family. Including capturing an escaped goat.

We had such a great experience at Swedish Lilac. We had a beautiful site near the river, with a view of the meadow. Our hosts, Fritz and Valerie were so accommodating and gave us some great tips on what to see and do in the Lexington area. We rode our bikes on the Chessie Trail, which was wonderful, shady and level. We also visited Natural Bridge State Park. Also enjoyed playing ping pong in the pavilion and watching fireflies at night. Wish we could have stayed longer.

A very convenient Hipcamp, only a couple of miles off of I-81 in Buckanan. Site was very roomy for our 5x10 camper. The owner Ashlee was very accommodating and responsive to communications. A very pleasant experience staying at the Wild River Mushroom Farm. Would definitely stay again.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Wild River Farm Camp Site and can't recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, Ashlee made us feel right at home — she was fantastic, attentive, and truly made the experience special.
The campsite itself was beautiful and well-kept, but the real highlight was the farm. My kids were completely charmed by the animals — chickens, pigs, adorable baby goats, and more. It's the kind of up-close farm experience that's hard to find and even harder to forget.
To top it all off, the sunsets from the property were absolutely breathtaking. And the location couldn't be more convenient — just 10 minutes from the Natural Bridge, making it the perfect base camp for exploring the area.
If you're looking for a peaceful, unique, and memorable camping experience with a little farm magic thrown in, look no further. We'll definitely be back!

Spent three nights here at spot 11. Loved it. Very spacious spot with a large grass field beside it that leads to a picnic and ping pong table covered area. There's a road on one side of the campground but that didn't bother us too much. Beyond the creek on the other side are some railroad tracks that, again, didn't really bother us. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. They offer free WiFi that works throughout the campground and free firewood, never seen that before. Owners were friendly and attentive. We will be back!
