We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. 174 Acres of forested land in the Draper, Virginia area, very convenient to both I-81 (2-1/2 miles south of) and I-77 (10 miles east of) with scattered clearings connected by over 2 miles of cleared roads throughout the property, which are perfect for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The property includes a very small creek, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional turkey, black bear, coyotes and Bigfoot. The thing people seem to enjoy most is the privacy and and quiet that allows you to connect with nature. Each of the 3 sites is hundreds of yards apart. Note: there is no bathroom on the premises, however you can book a toilet tent as an extra. 4 Wheel Drive or All wheel drive are helpful during the winter months, or if there has been a lot of rain or snow/ice. Things to watch out for are deer ticks and poison ivy. Campers are expected to leave the site neat and take all their trash with them. We are located about 5 minutes from I-81 or 15 minutes from I-77 making it an easy place to stop when passing through on your way to other adventures. If you are coming on I-81 (North or South), use exit 89-A. Don't let Google maps take you to Frog Level Ct near the town of Pulaski (LOL). Nearby attractions include Appalachian Gem and Gold Mine on Route 100 (5 min), New River Trail State Park (10 min), Claytor Lake State Park (20 min) and the Town of Draper has a couple small town shops to explore including The Draper Mercantile and Trading Company and the newly opened Conery where you can get wonderful ice cream cones and more. Also, check out the Draper Mountain overlook on Rt 11, just 10 minutes from our HipCamp. We love hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 sites but only allow 2 to be in use at a time on the property. This insures that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others and allows us to always have an alternate site available if campers want to change. Bring your dogs ! Available "Extras" include portable toilet setup, firewood, Woodshop class making a cutting board, Bigfoot sitings as well as various camping gear items and games. If there are other extra's you would like to see or something you forgot to bring please let us know and we will see what we can do.

This property is our favorite place to camp in North Carolina. The hosts, Linda and John are the kindest and most helpful people we’ve encountered while camping and the property is gorgeous. We took our two dogs in our 43 foot Class A motorhome and had plenty of room for our tow car and our RV. The sites are maintained to perfection and the sites are so flat that our jacks only had to make minor adjustments for our RV to be level. The property has several trails so we always love exploring while we’re there. We love the mountain views from every direction and the sunrises are breathtaking on top of the mountain. It’s the perfect place to have a peaceful getaway.

Apple Maps had me turn too early – keep driving until you see the yellow signs Jim has placed by the road. You can’t miss them so keep going. I enjoyed a two-night stay at Jim’s place. It was clean, quiet, and the views were great. The spots are a little close but set up in a way that you still have privacy – each space is very spacious. This would be a great place to come with two other groups, especially if you can get spots 1-3. I stayed in spot 3 and it was set up perfectly. I did have to level out the RV about 6” in the back which was not a problem. Jim was very accommodating but not intrusive, super nice guy. Power hook up was seamless. If you use an external water filter at the water source, you will need a small hose section because the spigot is very close to the ground. I thought I read that the sewer was for grey water only, so I did not empty our black water tank (which we don’t use for #2’s – we bag those). The picnic table and fire ring were located in the perfect spot. AT&T cell service is 1-2 bars. Always had connection. Access to the New River Trail is at the end of the road, about a 10-minute walk. I walked east (did not bring my bike but will next time) about 6.5 miles and crossed two bridges and passed through Allisonia. Nice and flat. The surface of the trail is packed and would accommodate road tires, but I wouldn’t ride it with anything less than hybrids. I did have trouble finding a good map of the trail, so I posted one I picked up at

New driveway exit makes it very easy to simply pull in to the spot and drive straight out back onto the road!

We really enjoyed staying at this site (#6). Excellent signage directing you to the camp. The scenery is beautiful overlooking the New River. Across the road, behind the site, is a lot of miscellaneous stuff that’s not so pretty to look at. The site is well equipped, with the utilities positioned on the wrong side, but that didn’t hinder us from being able to utilize everything properly in our 39 ft Super C. There is a house that sits up from the site that looks down on you, along with a large lighted cross. It was very quiet. A nice little getaway.

We loved our stay on Allison's land. She greeted us upon arrival and gave us the sweetest goodie bag with some homemade items. She also included a guide to some local things to do and restaurants. We tried a few of the places on her list and they were amazing! The spot is easy to pull into, easy to hook up, easy to maneuver around. There are several chairs to sit in as well as a picnic table and hammock. The fire pit was perfect for roasting hotdogs. We really enjoyed sitting by the creek and relaxing. It rained for a while during our stay so the creek was nice and babbling. They took our trash out for us twice. Very communicative as well. We would for sure come back and stay again. We had a wonderful time.

We had a wonderful night here passing through the area. Tracy was there to welcome us, show us around, offer his help and then we didn’t even know he was on the property- plenty of privacy. There were SO MANY fireflies. I don’t know if I have ever seen so many fireflies… it was a real treat. AND there is WiFi! Camp spot is a little close to the road, but we only saw a few cars the whole time. All around- Great stay, Highly recommend!
