I feel extremely misled about this site. The only view you have of the River is when you’re standing out on the shelter, which in itself is unique and beautiful. But it is no where close to the river. And extremely close to the owners home. You can see their house right thru the thin bamboo. You can’t even actually get down to the river. To get to the New River Trail, you have to go down at least half a mile on a very steep and uneven decline. After that, you’ve still got another 10 minute steep decline, and then you get to the trail. But like I said, there’s still no access to the beautiful river.
Not to mention, we were told we could drive down the steep half a mile and camp “by the river”. So we went down, and you can barely call it a site. It’s so overgrown with weeds. We had to move the picnic table ourselves so we could actually sit on it. Same thing with the fire pit. And the host was terrible about responding to my messages. It took days every time for a response.
We reserved the site for 2 nights, but barely spent over 12 hours there. If we hadn’t been driving all day, we wouldn’t have even stayed that long. I messaged the host after we had left explaining how misled I felt, and no response or apology at all.
