My son and I had a great time here. My son loved the river. This particular spot is by the main entrance so not secluded but real close to the showers. Hosts were great.

Camping at Boulderdash was absolutely amazing. We rented tent site 1 and our friends rented tent site 2 and it worked perfectly to have that area together. The sites were clean, quiet and had awesome amenities including the outdoor kitchen area to share with each other. This made washing dishes, charging devices and washing hands so easy. The river is beautiful despite being low and there is easy access to it. They are pet friendly as long as your pet is friendly and that's a huge plus. The hosts were so kind as well, they even put on an easter egg hunt for all the kids on site Saturday night. I can't say enough great things and will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Boulderdash Cabin & Camping

Fantastic camping spot! We booked out both of the river spots so that we had more room and privacy. It was perfect! The walk up to the bath house wasn’t bad at all. Facilities were nice and clean and cared for. We didn’t use the WiFi. The sink and electric were very conveniently located. There was an issue with the outlets, but the hosts were super quick to respond and got us set up with alternate electricity sites in the meantime. Incredibly accommodating. Being next to the water was perfect! The dogs loved it. Plenty of flat spots for tents and parking. Beautiful site. I’ve camped quite a bit within about a 3 hour radius of Austin, and this has been the best! Loved it

We had an amazing time at Rio Frio Camp. Carlos was the best host and super accommodating. Bathrooms were clean, and there was a Pavillion with patio furniture and games. The property was beautiful.

2 nights at Rio Frio RV Park & Campground

Awesome site. Great location with great river access. Bathrooms and showers were super clean. The host, Carlos, was really friendly and helpful with everything we needed. 5 star experience, starting with Carlos to the location, cleanliness, pet friendly, river access, amenities, and more! Highly recommend staying here and will be returning soon without a doubt.

2 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

Sparrow's Bend is a treasure. The hosts have anticipated guests needs with a well kept camp including access to an air-conditioned bathroom and outdoor shower. We brought wood but ended up running low into our second night and they very conveniently keep a pile of firewood with a venmo QR code. We brought our paddle boards and very easily launched right out of camp, though the water is still very, very low. We were able to explore quite a ways in either direction and just had to carry our boards for little sections at a time. Really the best part of the river is right at Sparrows Bend where we spent most our time watching the sparrows and the fish.

2 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

Me and my buddy camped out in a tent on the land. For starters I’ve never seen so many deer in one place. We pulled up after dark our second night and was greeted by at least 50 deer such a beautiful sight. Adventured up the creek bare foot and enjoyed the sparrows dancing in the sky. Secure location, clean restrooms, and the outdoor showers were and amazing experience (wash yourself fast lol) the hot water doesn’t last very long when it’s a little colder outside but I’m sure in the summer weather the shower is amazing. I will be booking again in the future.

This place is beautiful and the owners are very kind it had everything we needed a/c restrooms and nice showers, charging stations came in handy sense we stayed 4 days! The river is so clear and beautiful my girlfriend found so many pretty rocks around. The hills in the back ground was a refreshing view to wake Up with, so many deer running around I had so much fun

It was such a fun experience staying at Boulderdash! We had our 3 kids, ages 2,4,8 and they all had something fun to do. We enjoyed the river, riding our bikes around our tent site, hiking at hill country state park, and exploring the property. Beautiful views from the grilling area, got to see some hummingbirds right next to us. Overall lovely time.

Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River

We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes. Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. Enjoy walks in the morning, camp cooking, star gazing at night, a Bar-B-Que pit is provided and enjoy a fire in the fire pit. A rope swing is just minutes up river. This is primitive camping on the Frio River at its best. -4 wheel drive is mandatory to cross river.
