Fantastic spot to set up camp at a central location in the hill country. This campsite is secluded as described. Lots of shade in the trees if you desire. Only a couple minute walk to the clean bathrooms and showers. A short stroll the other direction and you will see a clearing with epic hill country sunset views. We’re definitely coming back some day.

We had a great time camping at Fritz’s ranch! The Ridge is an awesome site. It’s perfect for sunrise, sunsets and stargazing. It was a nice flat area with a large fire ring and two perfect trees for hanging the hammock. It’s the perfect place if you’re looking for beauty and seclusion. 10/10 would recommend.

The views were stunning, and the stars at night were magical. Woody was a fantastic host friendly, responsive, and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We made some unforgettable memories here, from campfire chats to exploring the area, and we’re already talking about coming back. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect and recharge with good company, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

Even though there was a huge storm Friday night, we still had a great time! We stayed at site 7 and the quiet and seclusion was nice! It also helped the site is on higher ground so we didn’t get flooded. We did a short hike while it was dry and saw a lot of cool things around! Our dogs had a fun time and loved exploring. We definitely plan on going back in the future! Thank you for having us :)

We had a full group out this weekend and this spot did not disappoint! The views throughout the property were amazing and the drive in was a site to behold. Fritz and Ken were extremely hospitable and welcoming. The property is beautiful. Looking forward to taking my wife out later this year.

Fantastic camping on some of the most beautiful land in Texas - this place seriously rivals all Texas state parks. Beautiful topography combined with natural springs and diverse wildlife make this ranch a must see. We saw quail, turkey, whitetail, red stag (including an albino), javelina, horned frog, bass, sunfish, etc. The landowner and his assistant were extremely helpful when it came to booking the reservations, driving directions and navigating the property. Also, there are no cattle on the property, which is nice when it comes to walking around (no landmines to avoid).

1 night at The Charmadillo: Glamping Resort

I can’t say enough good things! The coffee, the tea, the views, the robes, the cozy bed. There was nothing that wasn’t intentional and cared for about this stay. It’s private and remote, but well lit and simple to navigate. There’s much to do in the surrounding areas, such as great breakfast in Camp Verde and amazing steaks and specialty stores in Bandera, Texas Salt Co. was our favorite! I told about 5 people back home how awesome our stay at Charmadillo was, and I hope more people find this gem!

We loved tent camping at the Charmadillo! The peacefulness and amenities were incredible. Pro tip: opt for the google maps directions—Apple Maps took us 30 minutes out of the way originally. Would definitely return and recommend!

I loved the tent areas, they also have cabins and a tipi ⛺️ . It was nice view and the amenities were a great addition to have from the fully equipped kitchen to the pool. I didn’t have a chance to get in the sauna but it’s okay we were there to connect with nature we also saw an armadillo a couple feet’s away.

About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. The Ranch is our place we like to go when we need to get away. It's raw and it's nice land to camp, explore and enjoy wildlife. We have a Wildlife Exemption on the property and enjoy managing native song birds. We keep a constant flow of bird seed located in feeders around the ranch, and we have seen all kinds of birds making this a great place for birders. The ranch has nice elevation changes with a wet weather creek that traverses the property. There are some trails to hike or mountain bike. The cabin is rustic without plumbing or electricity, but we enjoy it and it's fun to think it's everything we would need. This is off-grid living all the way, and we are constantly learning new and better ways to do things. The cabin is located on the very first spot we pitched a tent after purchasing the land, and we continue to make improvements as we go. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
