1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. Very private with plenty of varied terrain for hiking swimming, tubing, biking or just hanging out in a hammock enjoying the breeze and peace and quiet.
About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out.
NO FISHING
As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around.
We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails.
There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful.
We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch.
Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are--

. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers.
The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so.
Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds.
Campfires are permitted.
There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one.
Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently

Also please remember that while our farm is a total of 30 acres, only about 1/3 of that is available for open use by campers, the rest house our beautiful horses and other animals.

We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock-friendly.
- When you check-in, just text us, your host will help you find your campsite.
- Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in.
If you want to drive right into your site,
Campsites 2, 3, 6, and 12 are the sites you want.
Some of our campsites are more secluded than others and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites requires a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring.
Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite over rough terrain. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful!
Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you.
We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there.
Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property.
Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

Property has been in family since 1987. The land has a rich history of wild boars and other wildlife. There is a live creek that runs along one of the property lines and is 50 ft deep.
Pastures are mowed three times a year and always look beautiful. There is some
terrain that is rough and the land has not been traveled. Bring machetes and a compass (We are not a rescue team). The land is ready to be loved by our visitors.
The llamas will come to greet you and so will many more things in this wonderful place. We are conveniently located in a secluded area, but just a short drive from many local conveniences.

When the ground is muddy, Brookside, RiverRock, and Richardson Creek campsites require a 4-wheel drive and have alternate routes to get to them. Ancient Oaks is an all-weather site. You can enjoy hiking and swimming in Richardson Creek when water levels permit. Canoeing from Bakers Crossing put-in which is only 3 miles away.

-From Alpine: take HWY 118 South out of Alpine approximately 62 miles until you come to the only left turn lane. Turn left on Terlingua Ranch Road. You will see the large white Terlingua Ranch Lodge sign.
-From Study Butte: take Hwy 118 North 16 miles from the ALON gas station, turn right at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge sign.
2. Follow Terlingua Ranch Road approximately 16 miles. The first 13 miles are asphalt. There is not a center stripe, please stay on your side of the road. THE LAST THREE MILES ARE ON A MAINTAINED DIRT AND GRAVEL ROAD. It can be wash-boarded in areas. Please drive slowly and observe speed limits to help protect our roads
We are proud to be a part of The Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve. All guests are requested to keep their site as dark as possible between 10pm and 6am.
Fire Ban: Due to extreme drought, only gas grills and propane burners are allowed. NO charcoal or wood fires.

While we are adjacent to Big Bend National Park, it is approximately 36 miles to the Maverick Junction entrance of Big Bend National Park and an additional 22 miles to Panther Junction Headquarters and Visitors Center.
We are about 32 miles to Study Butte and about 37 miles to Terlingua Ghost Town area.
Terlingua Ranch is 192,000 acres of desert and mountains between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park in far SW Texas. Welcome to Grapevine Springs Retreat—a timeless slice of Texas heritage on our family-run cattle and exotic hunting ranch, established by my great-great-grandfather in the late 1870s. I still live here and keep the place going today. Nestled in the rugged canyons of Real County just north of Leakey on US Hwy 83, this is the headwaters of the West prong of the Frio River, where crystal-clear Grapevine Springs flow year-round.
Escape to true seclusion amid tall hills, ancient hardwood trees (live oaks, Spanish oaks, Escarpment Cherry, and black walnut), and abundant wildlife—white-tail deer, turkey, hogs, exotics, seasonal songbirds, and butterflies. Enjoy the gurgling creek for refreshing swims, peaceful hikes through canyon terrain, breathtaking sunrises/sunsets, and some of the darkest skies in Texas for incredible stargazing.
This is primitive, off-grid camping at its best: no frills, just pure nature immersion for those ready to unplug, Leave No Trace, and make memories under the stars. LAF ranch is a magical place that is hard to describe with words. Divine would be my choice.
There aren’t many places in Texas that yield such pristine and untouched property so we will certainly return time and time again.
Fritz is an excellent host who will ensure you have a great trip and provides awesome background on the history of the area and resources for the property.

We loved our stay at LAF Ranch! Super relaxing… nice to have a private spot to unwind. The place is beautiful and the river felt amazing. Fritz was incredibly helpful, friendly and all around just a great host. We hope to return soon.

Tent camping was great. The owners are very kind and allow you to get the most out of your trip. Having a functioning bathroom despite being a primitive campsite is nice, and you're not too far away from the town if you need anything. Even was able to order another air mattress after suffering from a leak. Can't wait to come back.

Our first time camping at this campground, and we absolutely loved it! The photos don't do the scenery justice—it was even more beautiful in person.
My wife and I had an amazing, peaceful getaway. We enjoyed kayaking on the river, relaxing by the campsite, and taking in the quiet nights under the stars. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very helpful throughout our stay.
We'll definitely be coming back and hope to reserve the same campsite again when it's available. Highly recommend this campground to anyone looking for a relaxing outdoor experience!- Oscar & Lupita

The Bus Stop Campground is well maintained. They had hammers and tent stakes at all of the camp sites. Its 2 miles down a dirt road and was vary quiet

We had the BEST time at Llamaland! Judy was great and because we went on the hottest day of the year so far, we had the whole property to ourselves! We got to pick whatever site we wanted. The llamas were adorable!! We will absolutely be going back, especially when it's not so hot!

Billy’s campsite was beautiful, well cared for and had so much nature to enjoy. The campsite was perfect with lots of shade, trees, and easy access to the river. We enjoyed swimming in the river, fishing, bird watching, listening to wildlife at night. Also lots of fireflies! It was the perfect distance from any towns to feel secluded but if you needed to pick anything up it was only a 15 minute drive. We will definitely be going back

This was our first time there and the place was fantastic! The views were amazing and if stargazing is your thing then this is the place! We got some great shots of the Milky way. The restrooms with showers is close by and the Bad Rabbit Café was wonderful! The chef made my eggs perfectly. Lol.

My girlfriend and I loved camping here. I would definitely recommend it. It was private, easy to get to, and well maintained. If we’re in the canyon lake area again we would stay again! The only issue, however slight, was that there was only one chair provided. Other than that, it was great!
