Running Water Creek is a unique, fully off grid campground just 20 minutes to downtown Chattanooga. We have 80+ campsites spread out over 120 acres. Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid. Some info about the property: -we DO NOT have water or power hookups -we have gravel roads with a 5 MPH speed limit on the property (if you drive too fast the roads will seem rough) -we are right next to a highway and train tracks so there will be some noise (some days are better than others and we have no way of predicting how many trains will/will not go by) -none of our campsites have picnic tables (please plan accordingly) -most campsites have fire rings built, but if you choose a site without one you need to build your own

The roomy loft has an extra-long bed, and the sofa and chair also fold down into beds. Power boxes and a generator provide electricity. The cabin is set on the side of the mountain, so while the path up is short (about 1/10 of a mile), it is steep in parts.

If I could give Broken Banjo more than 5 stars, I would! Our family of four stayed in the Treehouse Cabin and it exceeded our expectations. It was cozy, clean, well cared for, and tucked toward the back of the campground, which gave us a peaceful setting while still being an easy walk to everything. The staff truly made our stay special. Karen patiently answered all of our questions before arrival. Steve went above and beyond by safely opening the pool after local storms so our boys could swim. We ended up having the pool and slide to ourselves for about two amazing hours! He also delivered our firewood that first night. Jody in the camp store was incredibly sweet and welcoming. A HUGE shout-out to Eric! He was exceptional—kind, attentive, accommodating, and always making sure we had everything we needed. He kept the pool and activity areas clean and ready and always took time to check in with us. The pool was exceptionally clean every single time we went in! The wife and I enjoyed having coffee on the porch each morning. Our 12-year-old loved the playground and the pool - while making new friends, on the other hand our 17-year-old loved basketball and the pool as well. We also enjoyed putt-putt, the water slide, grilling, a campfire, morning walks, and sitting on the porch watching a rainstorm. My wife and I even went down the slide and felt like kids again! We always felt safe, welcomed, and cared for. We made amazing family memories and are already planning our return!

I loved all the big rocks, the creek, the sculptures, and so much green everywhere… William and his animal friends were very welcoming and made it easy to find the hut on the hill. After the extremely challenging sweaty hike up (par for the course in a TN July!), I arrived at what felt like a fairytale cottage in the glen. It was beautiful! The perfect place to reset your nervous system and take several deep breaths… things I would recommend: pack light, take a good walking stick, guard yourself against chiggers if you plan to sit on the ground or venture into the wild areas in summer, and take a headlamp for seeing better inside the cabin and outside at night. I might suggest you take a solar shower bag. I didn’t have one, and it would’ve been wonderful to rinse off once or twice. There is a giant glass jug of drinking water there, so you don't need to carry the extra weight of water up the hill. Greet the trees when you get there; I’m pretty sure they appreciate it. And thank them when you leave. It’s a nice way to bookend your experience. William is a great steward of the land, and you will feel very safe and cozy there. Rest well!

Weekend Trip to Shoestring Creek Campground

This campground was so beautiful. Secluded, each camper has total privacy, but host made sure to give us contact info in case we needed something or in a pinch. If you are going to car camp in the Smokies- this place is for you and it's away from all the crazy tourism of some of the surrounding areas while still being smack dab in the center of gorgeous mts. Unbeatable value for the campsite.

1 night at Meadowview Springs

We really liked the cabin and its rustic yet contemporary feel. However, it seems like it wasn’t intended for use during Tennessee summers where it can be 80+ degrees inside at night. There was a propane heater which I imagine would make this a really cozy place in colder months but obviously we didn’t need it for our stay. The fans & power bank that the host provides plus having the windows opened helped but it was still uncomfortable.

1 night at Sacred Dog Ranch

First of all, beautiful land - we loved the scenic drive in and all of the art. It is something special and unique. Lisa & Gary were some of the coolest people we’ve met on our travels, amazing hosts and so generous. We loved the vibes and the music, while our dogs loved their comfortable and fun short stay.
