We came to this magical place to found a self-reliant, intentional eco-community when I retired from corporate life in 2006. It's called the Village on Sewanee Creek, named after the creek 800 feet below the bluff where we are located. There are now a dozen homesteads here and a small thriving community. I traveled the world as a senior executive for Baskin-Robbins, Dunkin' Donuts, Papa Johns, Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and other retail franchises, making the world safe for Pizza, Ice Cream, Pancakes Video Rentals and American convenience. And I was ready for something more fufilling. I scouted for a place of exquisite natural beauty and I found it here. I bought way too much land just before the real estate bust and learned how to turn a nice fortune into a very small one. I faced challenges and had lots of fun. Now I want to share our experience. It's the Village 2.0 for guests. Who knows, you may decide to stay. Or not. Life in the city is OK as long as you can get away frequently. I'm convinced if you love nature and the outdoors, this is the best place to celebrate it.

Waterfalls!
The cabin was a perfect getaway for us. The heat worked well. Loved the fire pit. Grant took us around the property and we went hiking an explored it ourselves and saw the waterfalls.

We had such a great time on Grant's land!! A group of 13 of us came down for a 30th bday weekend and this place was perfect. Grant was extremely helpful, responsive and very friendly. It was easy to tent camp and car camp + the kitchen had everything we needed to make a big dinner. We will certainly be back!

Very private. Incredible waterfall with a trail leading behind it. Very quiet at night with beautiful night sky (thanks to no light pollution).

I thought it was wonderful to be able to explore his waterfall, creek and wild lands. We didn’t have to go anywhere during the day, could relax. The porch over the cliff was so nice in the morning while having coffee!

Incredible site and even better hosts. It was so nice to detach from my phone, laptop and tv. My son and I spent quality time together both indoors and out. The waterfall and surrounding area is mind blowing! There are lots of trails and places to explore on site. The treehouse was awesome! The mattress’ were comfy and lots of blankets and space heaters to keep us comfy! I can’t wait to return.

We had the most amazing getaway. The sounds of the falls is so relaxing and we got the best nights sleep listening to them. The views were so beautiful. Grant and Becky were both amazing hosts. Will definitely be back.

Slow down in Nature with the Family
We had a great time at the Treehouse on Grant & Becky's land. Went in Feb for my husbands birthday & took our 2 young daughters and family dog. We weren't sure what the weather would be this time of year as it can fluctuate greatly. Of course we were hoping to luck out and have warmer temps so we could sleep outside and hear the waterfall, but we ended up with lows in the 30s highs in the 50s. The treehouse kept us plenty warm though. Woke up to beautiful snow falling the first morning. The outhouse composting toilet was very clean and they provide plenty of sawdust to cover smells. Plenty of blankets and futon mattresses for comfort. We cooked all our meals at the treehouse with no issues. Bring your own charcoal for the grill. Pros/cons to going in the winter months: the views were great with less foliage on the trees. The waterfall was gushing and hiking was enjoyable. The stars were fantastic as well. Only con is with the higher elevation a little chilly so bundle up. Grant & Becky are very kind hosts and were available for anything we needed. Grant even took us on a ride around the property and shared a story about the fairies that live there and showed the girls where they hibernate in the winter. We added the welding project to our stay and had a great time being creative and made a mushroom yard ornament to take home.

Waterfall sounds to fall asleep!
I loved staying at Grant and Becky’s! They are wonderful hosts, they gave us a tour of the property and a nice story about the fairies that live in the forest! 🧚‍♂️ I can’t say enough good things about them! They made the stay. Having the waterfall so close to where we slept was absolutely incredible, and a bit of a dream come true. I would definitely stay here again. The lodgings are incredible, so unique and it had absolutely everything we could have wanted and more. Grant and Becky have set the bar by which I will judge all other camping experiences from now on. We told Grant we wanted to explore and he suggested a rugged hike down the river to find a small cave, which we did! There are no trails so it was difficult, and treacherous at times, but absolutely worth it for a seasoned hiker like me. We found the cave by crossing the larger river.

Glamping at it's finest!
Our stay at the Glamping Tent was great! My boyfriend and I are primitive tent campers and wanted to try Glamping for the first time. Grant was a wonderful host. He showed us around the Tent and down to the waterfall which was breathtaking! We did stay right after a severe winter weather came through so there was a lot of ice and that made the waterfall even more spectacular. The tent was cozy and had all the amenities you could need even though we brought everything we needed, it was nice to have back ups. There are multiple places to camp on his property and we are excited for spring so we can try out the Primitive Camp Site. This was an absolute 10 out of 10! Thanks Grant! We will be back!

Millers lookout is a real adventure! It feels a bit off the beaten path. Like exploring nature the real way, there are paths of course. But we had lots of beautiful fall leaves covering everything. We discovered the waterfall which was a neat little hike. The glamping tent looks really lovely. Grant was super helpful and kind, a wonderful host! We want to go back again! Our stay was relaxing and beautiful.

Wonderful time, secluded, peaceful (almost a metaphoric meditated experience) with the ability to sleep well, hike, shower, have a campfire and just be unplugged for a couple of days. Place is very organized and retreat-like experience. You have everything you need here at the beech house and also town is about 6 minutes away, but we stayed primarily at the beech house. Also, visited Foster Falls 15 minutes away while there for 2 nights. Thank you Grant and Becky, we would love to come back and possibly even bring friends!

My 7 year old and I had an amazing two night stay at the trampeze tree tent. Grant is an excellent host who clearly loves to share the magic of the land. He was present, kind, and helpful, but also un-intrusive. If you stay in the tent in fall or winter, bring lots of good bedding. The tent was comfortable but got chilly!
