We came to this magical place to found a self-reliant, homesteading eco-community when I retired from corporate life in 2006. It's called the Village on Sewanee Creek, named for the creek 800 feet below the bluff where we are located.
I traveled the world as a senior executive for Baskin-Robbins, Dunkin' Donuts, Papa Johns, Blockbuster, 7-Eleven and other retail franchises, making the world safe for Pizza, Ice Cream, Pancakes Video Rentals and American convenience. And I was ready for something more fufilling. I scouted for a place of exquisite natural beauty and I found it here. I bought way too much land just before the real estate bust and learned how to turn a nice fortune into a very small one.
I faced challenges and had lots of fun. Now I want to share our experience.

Tri Mountain View Campground is located in the Northeast corner of Tennessee in the town of Shady Valley. With an elevation of 2,800 feet, Shady Valley is the second highest town in Tennessee. It is just 26 miles from the Bristol Raceway and the Bristol Caverns. It is just a 15 minute drive to Backbone rock and a short drive to the Appalachian Trail. The property was a Dairy Farm and went out of business in the late 90’s and since then there has been over 3,000 trees planted. Some of these trees include the rare Butternut and Hazelnut, but mostly White Pine, Walnut and Oaks. The property has approximately 1,000 feet of fishing on Beaver dam creek, so we recommend bringing waders. There is also a shower house, washer and dryer.

The Property:
Located north of Cookeville in the rolling hills and farmland, our property is on Spring Creek, a state scenic river. Situated between two waterfalls and featuring over half a mile of river frontage to explore. Float, fish and relax listening to the cascading water. Perfect for bird watchers- blue and green herons, ospreys, hawks, bald eagles and more. You may spot the creek critters- minks, beavers, and otters. Various types of bass, craw dad's and minnows are in the creek.
We operate similar to a state park. We are open to the public from 10am-7pm, peak season. We have other listings that are spaced so each of our guests has privacy. Please see aerial photo for an overview. We sometimes have small events (birthday parties, ect) at the pavilion. Please feel free to message us first, if you would like to see if there are any events during your stay.
There are 2 restrooms centrally located at the pavilion. One bathroom has a shower with hot water, soap, shampoo/conditioner included. The restrooms are shared with our other listings. There are USB and regular outlets in the pavilion and WiFi. During warm season the outdoor kitchen is available as well.
We also rent out a Suite which is located above the pavilion.
Quiet hours are 10pm-8am.
Pets are welcome as long as they are leashed and picked up after. Please note there is a gun range 2 hollers away and depending on the season, it can be heard from our property.
Tent in the Trees Listing:
Your tent site is built above the trail and overlooking the creek.
The tent is equipped with a queen bed, linens, extra blankets & essential cooking gear. There is a fire pit with grill and griddles for cooking over wood or charcoal. Really, all you need is clothes, food and drink!
Primitive Camp Site:
The rustic camp site is DIY. It is 300' from pavilion, and 600' from Tent in the Trees. We provide a picnic table and fire pit You bring all the rest of your gear. Typically, you may park next to your campsite.
No RV's, converted vans are permitted. If you have a very small camper, please message us to see if we can accommodate. There are no hookups, and no loud generators allowed.

Running Water Creek is a unique, fully off grid campground just 20 minutes to downtown Chattanooga. We have 80+ campsites spread out over 120 acres. Most of the roads are accessible in any small car, but some roads require 4x4 (they're marked with a sign). We have a bath house with toilets, showers, and sinks and even offer hot water! Our well and cabins are all solar-powered as we are not on the electric grid.
Some info about the property:
-we DO NOT have water or power hookups
-we have gravel roads with a 5 MPH speed limit on the property (if you drive too fast the roads will seem rough)
-we are right next to a highway and train tracks so there will be some noise (some days are better than others and we have no way of predicting how many trains will/will not go by)
-none of our campsites have picnic tables (please plan accordingly)
-most campsites have fire rings built, but if you choose a site without one you need to build your own

Our location is phenomenal we are an hour from Knoxville and Asheville and just about 1/4 mile off I-40. Right at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains and 35 minutes from Gatlinburg about 40 minutes to Pigeon Forge (Dollywood), also about 45 minutes to Sevierville and one of my favorite Tanger Outlets!! The beautiful Smoky Mountains the National Park is filled with hiking trails and horse stables and trails. Some of the best white water rafting is less then 5 miles up the road along with zip lining and a lil taste of moonshine here and there.
This property is primitive with no electric and has a camping style bathhouse. IT’s recommended for outdoor lovers and people that are not too needy. Hurricane Helene brought unforecasted changes in the land but the tranquility of the River remains. We have worked to restore as much as we could. As for us it’s still our happy place in the Smoky Mountains!

Grant and Becky were fabulous hosts! Even with a rainy weekend our group had an amazing time! The pictures don’t do the waterfall justice and it’s just a quick 5 minute walk from the Outdoor Kitchen/Yurtle Campground. I HIGHLY recommend booking this particular site on the property even if you’re traveling with a small crew. We had 7 campers total and really enjoyed the perks of not having to pack any cooking utensils or gear. We just popped our food in the fridge/freezer and it was perfect! Especially for trips when the weather isn’t ideal you don’t have to worry about relying on a fire for your heat source. Grant and Becky were so kind and accommodating and we are already planning our next trip! A wonderful experience all around!

Outstanding experience! Site is easily accessible and well-maintained, and we were welcomed by our host upon arriving. This is the ideal balance between the camping experience and a touch of modern amenities. And it’s centrally located so getting to Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg, and whitewater rafting doesn’t take long at all for day trips. Overall, I was very impressed and I have no doubt we will return at some point. Muchas gracias!

We had such a wonderful stay at Honeysuckle Campground. The entire property was extremely clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We especially loved how convenient everything was, the campground had cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, and thoughtful amenities that made camping so much easier and more enjoyable.
The scenery was stunning, with gorgeous mountain views and a relaxing atmosphere that made it hard to leave. The host was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience feel even more special and personal. Everything about our stay felt peaceful, cozy, and well cared for. We truly loved our time here and would happily recommend Honeysuckle Campground to anyone visiting the area.

With kids
The cabin was a great location for anyone wanting to stay away from busy Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. With small children we love to tent camp, but traveling a long ways doesn’t always work for a tent- the cabin was perfect for us! We loved the cozy space and the hosts were very welcoming and helpful! We loved exploring the campground and enjoying the views.

We tent camped and it was awesome! A beautiful piece of land with adorable highland cows and a very sweet family! I only wish we had more time to spend there with the cows! Highly recommend!

Recently stayed at Waterloo falls with my adult children. They stayed at the campsite while I stayed at the tent in the trees. It was a great set up and Alice was very accommodating. Both sites were close to the water but far enough away from each other for different bedtimes. The pavilion with restroom/shower facilities is well built and very clean. My children have been sharing the listing with their friends because we had such a wonderful weekend together there. Highly recommend Waterloo falls and Alice!

Awesome site with great views! Close to small bathroom and shower. Also close to the trail which takes you up a steep climb, but walking the ridge was worth it! Very peaceful and would stay here again. Thanks for a great time!

Beautiful campground in a walnut orchard. Hammock lovers dream, so many good trees to hang. Bathroom and showers are great. Views are amazing. Only dislike was a bright light HT that came on at dusk and stayed on all night. Second night there we hung a tarp in front of our tent to block the light. And slept much better. Talked to the owner about the light and he is very open to suggestions. Will definitely return here.

Was a nice clean sites with beautiful mountains view, host was great. Had little shower house and bathrooms. Is a nice base campsite when exploring the smaller towns nearby. Only issue we had was the spot light on the pole that shined thru the tents at night. Understanding the light is a safety measure. If in the area again will gladly come to camp here again.

I really enjoyed staying at Alice's place. The tent had everything you could possibly need. It was a comfortable and soothing sleep listening to the running water. The restroom facilities were clean and well stocked. Alice was very informative and a wonderful communicator. I feel fortunate to have found such unique place to stay and that Alice was willing to share it

Weekend Trip to The Falls at Sewanee Creek
Our stay at the treehouse was absolutely beautiful. It was so peaceful and quiet, the perfect little getaway to relax and unwind. Waking up surrounded by the woods felt magical, and everything was clean, cozy, and well thought out. The hosts were amazing and made us feel so welcomed from start to finish. You can really tell they care about giving guests a special experience. Our hiking adventure to the multiple waterfalls was perfect. Our tent was cozy, spacious and warm. We will be back!

Within 20 minutes of downtown Nashville, nice locals bars nearby with live music and food as well. Close to the highway. Would stay again.
