Surrounded by BLM and Timber properties, while being 6 miles from downtown CG (7 miles from the I5) and 30 miles from downtown Eugene. All guests have access to the outdoor shower, which is connected to the Dome. Please use biodegradable soap in the shower! Potable water spigots are located by the carport and at the top of the steps leading down to our platform site. Each site has its own composting toilet, fire-pit, electrical outlet and hammock. Nearby access to: two lakes for swimming and fishing, waterfalls and cliff-jumping, hiking and biking trails, dining, wineries, breweries, shopping and more. I am happy to offer suggestions and share what I know- please ask! UPDATE: The timber acreage that borders our property- to the west and north of Overholser Road- was harvested winter 2024. The property consists of Oak savanna, mixed conifer woodland, camas meadow, undulating hills and a SMALL pond (home to many rough-skinned newts- no swimming or fishing). At our domestead we practice permaculture, native habitat restoration and regenerative forestry. Poison oak is present on the property! I have done my best to clear it from camping areas and trails. Tecnu is provided in the outdoor shower. There is a mile long loop that goes around the whole property, which we keep mowed and accessible. Hipcampers are encouraged to use the loop to explore the property. To access- walk south/downhill toward the pond signs and follow the mowed path through the meadow and back up toward the road, which will take you back to your campsite. I have included a screenshot of the loop as recorded by my Strava app, which is in the property photos. The property hosts a geodesic play-dome and slack-line (during the dry months) up by the green dome/outdoor shower. Guests may play on these at their own risk- the closest hospital is 7 miles away. *Please note- if you do not respect our camp rules your visit will be flagged, hipcamp will be notified and you will be asked to pay 25% of your booking fee for cleanup costs.*

The Cottage Grove area is known for its covered bridges, mining history, and the scenic Row River Trail bike path. Film buffs may recognize local spots from Buster Keaton’s The General, Stand By Me, and Animal House. You’ll also find nearby farms, breweries, and vineyards offering tours and tastings. We are cannabis-friendly and ask that guests use responsibly. Well-behaved, friendly pets are welcome, but they must be attended at all times, as our neighbors keep goats and chickens. We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close. Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. Elk Haven Ranch consists of 40 acres at the base of a mountain range that is BLM federal land. There is an elk herd and of course deer on the property. This property is a haven for them, no hunting is allowed. If you are looking to throw a Frisbee with your dog in a forested and meadow setting, without tons of campers right next to you, then this is your place. Room to roam, fresh water April through September and easy access to a common electricity plug-in where you can charge your cell phones and air mattresses on the electric pole by the entry gate. If you are looking to play games, just ask us for the corn hole or horse shoes, or help yourself to the games already out and available. Let us know what your goals are and we will do our best to accommodate for your stay.

We have 5 acres of grass and conifers, with madrone and oak and big leaf maple throughout. There are alders and cottonwood by the water. The main house is at the top of the property. We have several fire pits and places to camp in tents, hammocks, or RVs. We have delicious well water and fire wood stocked. We are a large family of colorful people and animals living a little up river from the merge with the Rogue River. We are open to animal guests, but there are free range chickens and cats, as well as small children on the property.

As we began this dance of chaos with the land and all things residing in it and around it, we realized the land was as spiritually sick as we were. A microcosm of planet Earth, it has been raped, pillaged and neglected, it’s future never considered, it’s native stewards murdered, all in the name of greed. After 2 years of profound breakthroughs, mind bending healing ceremonies, confusion, emotional melt downs, everything malfunctioning one after another and questioning our choice to be here, we couldn’t help but feel like we were being sabotaged by something… We were. She was trying to get our attention, as were all of the negative energies trapped here. Suddenly an epiphany struck us both, in the thick muck of a terrible physical and energetic rut, we knew we needed to heal the energy that had been left lingering here from all of the traumatic events that happened all around us for hundreds of years. Just like us, trauma was trapped inside her from other people, just like the ancestral trauma we all suffer from on planet Earth. This is when we realized the land had called us here to help it, and in turn it would help us heal too….and it has. We now know we are exactly where we are supposed to be. Hi Carly. We had an absolutely amazing time! Your place is so quiet and beautiful. We set the tent up underneath the canopy and it was wonderful. The rain wasn't too much with that extra protection. All the stumps and benches around the fire pit are fantastic for cooking on with my little backpacking stove. And the trailer plug was perfect; the electric car was fully charged in the morning! Next time we are driving south to visit my parents in California, I hope we can stay at your place!

Very pretty spot! Incredibly private and quiet. The sunsets are lovely here. A good place to bring our camper and stay for the. Night. Karly was very communicative and kind. Recommended! Maneuvering a bigger camper would’ve been a struggle. Ours was a 23’, so smaller is better at this spot.

We absolutely love Cathryn's beautiful hipcamp on the Umpqua River in Roseburg. We went in late October so the weather was chilly and it rained a lot but we made the best of it. We had the entire campground to ourselves and just a few steps away from the most breathtaking river scene. My son enjoyed fishing and saw many huge salmon but unfortunately he didn't catch one next time perhaps. We have a 31ft RV and our friends had a smaller RV there are no hookups but that's how we love and enjoy camping. It is very peaceful with wild turkeys that ventured into our camps. There are no strict rules on dogs off leash which are pups love to explore and run around and frolic in the water it was amazing. Cathryn came by once to introduce herself and to answer any questions that we may have had. She also mentioned that they are going to do some improvements to the camp to get down to the water more accessible. Its all a work in process but it's beautiful just the way it is. We can't wait to book for the summer because there are many deep pools there to swim in. The only suggestion that I would have would be to move the front gate further down so that when you pull out of the gate you're not on the main road where it could potentially be dangerous. To be honest I really don't want to say too many great things about this place lol because we would love it to remain a secret 😜 It is definitely in the books for springtime. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

I did hammock camping and it was awesome. The camp spots they have are super sweet, with a nice parking unloading spot right next to their outdoor kitchen. There’s a wheelbarrow to help unload your things(it’s not far, but comes in handy if you’ve got more than a handful) and lots of signs to help direct you to everything. The sauna was pretty much amazing.. almost as amazing as the people there! I would recommend to anyone and look forward to returning!! . Still kinda putting it all together but he has created something wonderful. It was a peaceful retreat in nature.

Hideouts HipCamp Review I loved this place! Partly the location and partly the very nice people there. About the location: it's not for everyone,; it is a bit of a drive including 5 miles on a scrabble road that is fine. But you get out and away from everyone and into a beautiful spot with a great view. It’s also rather rustic that I like that soon they will have a bath house and it’ll be different. There’s an example of how they were nice to me: I am 72 years old and have some mobility issues. they were very cognizant of it and helped me get around a little bit. That was very sweet. I would come back every year if I could.
