Don't forget about the jetboat rides on the Rogue River May - September which are hugely entertaining and the river and scenery are unforgettable. The Dinner cruise is always a favorite. Hint (Be prepared to get wet). Elk Haven Ranch consists of 40 acres at the base of a mountain range that is BLM federal land. The Hidden Forest Get-Away campground is spacious and rural where so much wildlife, birds and even an occasional elk herd or family of deer can be seen. This property is a haven for them all, no hunting is allowed. If you are looking to throw a Frisbee with your dog in a forested and meadow setting, without tons of campers right next to you, then this is your place. Room to roam, fresh air to breathe and clean water available at your site April through September. Easy access to a common electricity plug-in where you can charge your cell phones and air mattresses on the electric pole by the entry gate. A common comment we hear from our campers is how much they love using the open air "hot water on demand" shower - at night - looking up at the stars. It's pretty amazing. The porta potty is kept clean and is privately situated, yet convenient. There's tons of firewood available to purchase for only $5 and a cart with wheels you can use to cart the wood easily to your camp site. Learn more about this land: Happy Bears Camp would really be suitable for those passing on I-5, who want a quiet place to park for the night. We are only one mile from I-5 (mile marker 80). Heading North on exit 80, there's a sharp 25 mph off-ramp on a downhill -Take it slow! There are lots of reservoirs, and a few rivers in the general area. The closest Reservoir is 12 miles away. Crater Lake is two hours away. The Pacific Ocean is 2 hours 15 minutes away. Closest river is less than a mile. You will cross it on the way here. There is lots of BLM land with dirt road access in the area. There is hunting in the area. The tiny town of Glendale is three miles away, (one route is safe for bicycles). There is a Grocery store, bank, laundry, three restaurants, two gas stations and a bakery. There are also two parks in town. One has a Frisbee golf course. Easy RV parking in town. On the way here, you will pass one of the restaurants and gas stations with a lot big enough to accommodate the largest RV. On the property: You may walk around. There aren't any trails and the undergrowth gets thick quickly under the trees. There is a fire break to walk, that circles the meadow. This will give you access to the trees. If you walk up the right side, our neighbor's dog will make a ruckus as you pass their house. Don't worry, just noise. At the top of the meadow, is a lovely view over this part of the valley.

Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. A locked gate with code access. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

Such an quiet and welcoming spot. Everything was like described. Enjoyed scenery, close by lonely beach and quietness. #4 is last in the row and had the hammock right in front the van 😉 J & C warmly welcomed us and made our stay beautiful. No rooster around and for a farm stay a quiet night sleep.

Prefect spot for an overnighter and show at The Britt. Easy to Uber to the venue. Nice quiet farm. We had great neighbors camping, and even the host Brad was going to the show. We had a shaded spot to park our van. Nice quiet evening with only the owls and crickets around us. Great visit to Jacksonville.

LOVED this place! Had everything we could have asked for and more! So peaceful, relaxing, private feel, quiet, and great hosts! We met Jose when we got there & Carolyn when we left - she was nice enough to share some farm fresh eggs with us (yum!). Would love to come back here again & highly recommend for a great spot outside of Crescent City while visiting the Redwoods! Pro tip: great dinner at Seaquake Brewery, lunch at Seaside Bakery, and coffee at Java Hut :)

We had such a blast and look forward to booking again! Honey Bear staff were all super friendly, the grounds were gorgeous, and the amenities were truly impressive. Our family can't wait to come back and bring our bikes and spend more time hiking around the property. We really enjoyed being able to walk to the beach- that is a huge plus that we haven't been able to experience before.

"We really enjoyed our stay at Wild Hare. Our gracious hosts greeted us when we arrived, even though it was a bit late, and helped get us settled in at their beautiful little farm. It was a hot day but the farm’s big tree and the evening breeze off the hills cooled things down perfectly as we fell asleep listening to the local barn owl. The location was outstanding for our So Oregon adventures the next day to Lake of the Woods and the Rogue Creamery, and then super convenient for attending a concert at the Britt that evening. Would definitely recommend staying here!

The property was narrow but we were able to turn around at the end of the driveway and back our trailer in. We chose site 4 which was a really nice site under a big tree. When we arrived, there was construction being done on the house until 9:00pm but that didn’t continue for the rest of our stay. There were several time when the dogs were barking including very early in the morning the day we were leaving. The property was in a beautiful area and we loved feeding the animals. When the dogs weren’t barking and after the construction stopped, the property was very peaceful and relaxing. There were full hookups at our site and it was nice to have WiFi, although it was weak and kept disconnecting. We would definitely recommend this camp site to others and we will keep this site in mind for future trips. Jose and Carolyn were very friendly and welcoming and even brought us fresh eggs! Thank you for making our stay comfortable!

Cute little farm with goats, chickens and lavender just a couple minutes from town. Brad was very nice and had lots of suggestion on things to do, places to go and where to get coffee. Just two hours from crater lake and about two and half to the northern tip of redwoods.

my husband and i loved being able to car camp here! there are no bathrooms on site, as it’s more intended for RV camping, but carolyn did direct us to a vaulted/pit toilet about 2 miles away. they had 3 beautiful friendly dogs, chickens, goats/sheep, and a horse! we were free to give them some treats and pet them :) carolyn introduced herself to us right after we pulled in, and ramon was very friendly. we would definitely camp here again!

This was a quiet, safe clean stop over for us. Heidi was an excellent communicator, she left a cone/flag out for us to find the turn, gave us a tour and was just generally pleasant and kind. Good vibes all around. Cleanest porta potty ever. Sink to wash hands. Outdoor shower. River access. Cool spot, would return!

Heidi was an incredible host. The space was well kept with cute and thoughtful touches throughout. We loved the outdoor shower and appreciated the outhouse to help extend our grey and black tanks. We envisioned being right on the river, but it was easy to walk down the stairs and access (tents can stay down near the river). The location was great but it was LOUD between the busy road and train. Would stay again though!

Overall grade: A- Really well kept up/clean. Excellent wifi!! Even when it was fairly full, it was very quiet/peaceful. Bathrooms/showers were clean with continuous hot water. Things I would update: Offer garbage bins along with all the dog waste bag sites. Especially in the designated dog park. (There is one area with dumpsters that you have to walk to.) Get some new street signage as the current ones are all sun bleached and not readable.
