4 nights at Captain’s Corner ⚓️

Definitely recommend!! Great spot. Very quiet location. HUGE lot. 1 minute walk to a restaurant/bar. Claudine and her husband were both amazing hosts, she was very responsive and accommodating. Will definitely be booking again in the future. This was our first time ever using Hipcamp and it definitely seems to be a better way to go versus staying at a campground.

Weekend Trip to Waterfront Quiet Central Location!

We only slept here and for us the place was fine. We felt safe and the camper was secure during the day while we were away. The site is peaceful and pretty, the host is friendly. The parking is back in only, the camper door faces the fence. The sewer hookup is unaccessible when the camper is fully backed into the parking space. The fire pit and water were inviting but we did not use either.

Perfect spot to park & unhitch from our 18’ travel camper. Located within 30 minutes to Virginia Beach and less to many historic spots & other types of attractions.

14 nights at Captain’s Corner ⚓️

Claudine responded to a FB post where we were desperately seeking a campsite near Virginia Beach after emergency changes to our travel plans left us without one over Memorial Day weekend. Some may argue that Grandy isn’t close to VB at about an hour away, but, Captain’s Corner turned out to be great! We were close enough to visit with our family and the OBX offered some fun opportunities to explore new things! The site itself was clean, spacious and quiet; we had the whole corner to ourselves. We rode bikes around the Walnut Island neighborhood, fished at the site and over by the little pier next to the Bar & Grill at the end of the road. *We didn’t try eating there, but a couple locals said it was good. Sadly, on the last day of our trip, the unthinkable happened and our seemingly healthy 2yr old kitty got super sick and we rushed him to the local Emergency Vet. As it turned out he had an acute heart condition and we lost him. It was shocking and terrible. I share this only to say that Claudine and her family were so kind and helpful. They offered to allow us to stay as long as we needed and even let us leave a little memorial behind to help us grieve. If you stay here someday, give a thought to the softest kitty in the world. 🩶 Dorian Gray 🩶 8.29.23 ~ 05.27.25

4 nights at Evans Family Farm

This was an amazing site. There was plenty of room to explore, both in and out of the water. The hosts were incredibly gracious as we booked what I would call last minute before a holiday weekend. Our group of 8 were impressed with the property and would 100% recommend this to other campers.

the site was incredible! the trails on the property take you through swamps, hardwood forests, and a beach! The site was right next to the albemarle sound and we had a great time taking the kayaks out during sunset. The firewood was so conveniently located and the porta-potties were so clean!

Another wonderful long weekend at Spruill. The sunsets r just to die for and the fishing is great! The site was very clean when we got there, as always, as well as the potty. There r several great options for hanging a hammock and the location is very private with such a relaxing vibe. We already have our next trip booked!

I debated leaving a review because this place was incredible. Hidden gem of a property and campground. Camped in a 16' bell tent right beside the water. Neighbors we had we're helpful and guided us to camping. I recommend not driving in at night though.

3 nights at Gator Creek

This was my second time staying at Gator Creek and it certainly won't be my last. It's very private, secure, quiet and beautiful. What more could you ask for?! It's also close to the ARNWR (see pictures) and it's just a little farther to the OBX for those so inclined. Stop by the local country store and say hello to Mr. Baily while you're there. Watch for the muskrats in the water near the entrance. They're fun to watch!

1 night at Waterfront Quiet Central Location!

Rene and Pete's site is actually just to the side of their house and in their backyard. The property is right on some water and it was so peaceful and quiet, even with a neighbor on the other side of the fence from my van. I have two dogs and they had free roam of the backyard without being leashed. Pete was even kind enough to send me information on dining close by. Both Rene and Pete were very courteous, very kind and willing to do anything I needed.

Weekend Trip to MARSH DUCK WAY

Great site!!! Not totally secluded but very peaceful! Pictures a little deceiving but still beautiful site. A lot of wood to burn but bring something to cut it with. Fishing was great a large variety of fish of decent size in the canal. Not too far from society, meaning a few stores to get supplies with in 20 minutes from site. Had a great time and Danielle had everything ready before we got there! Quite a few different places to pitch a tent! Will definitely recommend this site to friends and family!

2 nights at Spruill Conservation Farm

We had another wonderful stay at Spruill Farm. The views are unbeatable. We saw an otter in the sound, fish jumping out of the water and a black fox squirrel in the woods. There are times the sound gets choppy then there are times where it’s perfectly still. We enjoyed paddle boarding around the cypress trees and even took a swim. The whole area and the port a potty is kept super clean. The sites are far enough away that even when we had neighbors it was still really private. They continue to make improvements to the sites like adding a privacy fence between site 3 and the community fishing spot. It’s evident they really care about their land and their guests. Julia is always just a message away for any questions and is so nice and personable. Can’t wait to come back soon.

Weekend Trip to Spruill Conservation Farm

Camping on Julia’s property was amazing! The view was so relaxing, the walking trails were filled with amazing natural scenery. Each campsite was far enough to still have privacy at your own camp. The feeling of waking up to a beautiful sunrise, throw a fishing line in, start a morning fire and cook breakfast all in the same area was so wonderful.

Stayed at campsite 1 with a roof top tent. Amazing location, we were able to pull right alongside the firepit and benches along the river, couldn't have been a better set up. Very quiet and peace full spot. the host was extremely polite.

Second time staying here. This was a quick one nighter on the way to the OBX. Awesome place to stay. I will definitely be back again.

Spruill Conservation Farm

The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has just been set up as conservation easement protected land. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks. Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations. Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us. *Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing. We are centrally located in the heart of Hampton Roads within a 15-30 minute drive to Virginia Beach Ocean Front, ODU, NSU, ORF airport, all Navy bases, and Waterside District. This cozy RV campsite was previously used to store our Airstream as a spare guest house which we no longer own. It comes with sewer hookup, city water, 30 amp outlet. Guests have full access to use the private concrete boat ramp to launch a canoe/kayak for a quiet cruise on the river, or use the private fire pit sitting area. Pets are OK!

In addition to a large number of avian visitors each year, Back Bay is also home to many other species that crawl, swim, scurry and slither with a variety of snakes and turtles. Gator Creek

Located near Alligator River on the Little Alligator Creek. Fishing all around, just a short walk thru the woods or down the road. There is no clear path cut to the creek. I try to keep as much outside interference away from the property as possible. Public boat ramp in walking distance. Game lands are nearby with hunting for deer, bear etc. in season of course. No hunting allowed at Gator Creek. Not much light pollution so great for sky watchers. Lots of wild plants. Fiddle Head Ferns, Hearts A Busting, Wild Blueberries, Elderberry and more. A porta john located at my personal cabin but guest are welcome to use it or even pitch your tent in my cabin yard. City water available. We are adding a cooking shack for your use and hope to have it ready in a couple weeks. We do ask that you dispose of your trash appropriately because of the wild animals at Gator Creek. I am not on the site when campers are there. I want each camper to have the use of the property by themselves, that is the reason for only one camper at the time. I will add, I cannot guarantee how many Dragon Flys, birds, squirrels, bears etc. you will see, if any. You are camping in the wild in wetlands surrounded by state hunting preserves. If you want the outdoor life and like the wild Gator Creek is the place for you. PS: I am open to allowing car campers and or small camper vans.
