I was not sure what I was getting into when booking this reservation. The area had wonderful signage, you definitely cannot miss the camp store. Definitely a doozy getting in and out so most definitely be prepared. But Laura was the perfect hostess with the mostess. She was there upon arrival to greet you with the welcoming committee. She made sure that you were well stock and included in the activities going on. Her and husband were so sweet with the conversations. We had to cut the trip short due to weather but Laura made sure that everyone was aware and her husband even offered to help if we needed it. Will be back for more fun this summer

Weekend Trip to Babbling Brook Campground

We had a great weekend staying at the newly-constructed Birds' Nest Tent and Hammock site! It was well-equipped and just what we wanted for a weekend getaway, and Elizabeth and Mark were extremely helpful & hospitable. It was a nice bonus to go see their farm & animals at a time that was convenient for them also - it is their home, so we wanted to be respectful of their privacy and time. Pack light - it's a bit of a walk downhill to the site, and she has a lot of things you may need down there already! Water shoes for playing in the creek were well worth bringing along with a bundle of dry, larger firewood. It's a great site, would recommend.

Amazing place! Laura and Steve were great hosts. We had a great weekend with them. The toilets at each site made it very nice. We didn’t have a shower bag but they provided one. We didn’t catch a catfish in the river. Amazing place to stay we will definitely be returning!

The route getting to the property is through some amazingly scenic rural roads of Floyd county. The river that the property is on is wonderful, it was not a raging wide river, it is however a good sized river and her site #2 that we stayed at was an incredible riverfront site. The site itself on the river is somewhat small, and it is adjacent to (and at the end of) a state maintained gravel road, but once we were set up any traffic that would come by (one pickup rode by a couple times going to / from the farm at the end of the road) was nothing compared to what you'd have at a campground. There is a fire pit where we enjoyed a terrific campfire with lots of riverwood / drift wood to feed the fire for several hours. The sound of the river was peaceful and calming to fall asleep to and to wake up beside in the morning and that was the magic.

Weekend Trip to Rivers Edge Trail Camp

We enjoyed camping at site 6! Google map directions wanted ua to turn early, but we heeded the advice of another reviewer and followed the well posted sinage. The views were amazing! Even though there was on and off rain, the mornings were incredibly clear and crisp. As other campers have mentioned, it does get gusty but nothing too bad. We had the place to ourselves the first night but even with another camper 2 sites away, it remained quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see a sunset with heavy cloud cover, but that didn't detract from an otherwise spectacular weekend! We walked the New River Trail from the state park (20 min away) and the Allisonia access (10 min away). We also visited the Iron Heart Winery, a wonderful treat! Would definietly stay again.

Location is very convenient to town and a local park with trails. The sound of the stream was very soothing to sleep by. It’s a small area and is close to the road, so traffic can be heard. Fortunately, the sound of the stream drowns out most of it. Jeremy is very friendly and accommodating.

In addition, we are less than a 30-minute drive from about a dozen or so vineyards. Elkin NC is about 40 minutes east, Wilkesboro NC is about 40 minutes south, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 20 minutes away. We--Emma and Jonathon--live in an off-grid cabin on the property. You'll have 47 acres of mature woods, with rolling meadow, some hills, fresh springs, and a wide creek in beautiful Grayson Co, VA. Best of all, you will have lots of privacy and a spectacular star-filled sky on clear nights. Even though the property is located less than ten miles from the nearest town, here there is peace and quiet. Feel free to explore the entire property and enjoy the freedom to pitch your camp at the location that suits you! Perhaps you like the sound of a babbling creek and will want to set up camp at the flat along the creek; or perhaps you want to see the amazing view from the very top of the hill and camp there...or nestle your site in the beautiful meadow in between. The choice is yours. Expect to hike into forest and through tall grasses; there's even a bit of rock you can climb if you wish. Overall elevation change from the bottom lands to the very top of the hill is about +210 feet. Plenty of flatter land in-between. If exploring 47 acres isn't enough to keep you busy, it's a ten minute drive to the New River access where you can canoe, kayak, fish or swim. Or head into town and pick up a book at the local book shop. Access to the property will require a 4WD vehicle, or you may simply park by the entrance at the road and just hike it in. There are no amenities here, and the property often has vegetation (taller grasses) which you might want to cut to make your own site, which is allowed. Photos show what others have done in previous seasons to clear a space for camping. Campsites are generally not cleared of grass as shown. Hipcampers beware, this is rough, back-to-nature, old school style camping. There's often plenty of wildlife to see and hear although hunting, trapping, etc. is prohibited to Hipcampers. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.
