1 night at Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Retreat

I came and stayed on one of their older campsites a while back and they have done an incredible job creating more beautiful spaces to retreat from the city. This time we booked the Sparrow and the two new campsites for an overnight with our kids and their friends. From the moment we arrived, it's apparent how much care and intention goes into creating each site. Everything felt thoughtfully placed and it made for a really pleasant and fun experience. We spent the day hiking down to the waterfall (steep but beautiful!). It was too cool to swim but we took off our shoes and waded and even found a fossil. At night we fully enjoyed the fire pit and it was a perfect experience that we deeply needed. Tip: bring a few extra solar lights or lanterns for your path at night, especially if you’re staying in one of the more tucked-away campsites. It gets dark at night but makes for incredible stargazing. I couldn’t recommend this host and their property more. We left rested, reconnected, and already talking about the next trip to come back.

Weekend Trip to The Little Witch Cottage

This stone house cottage was absolutely lovely and charming. Would definitely stay here again. The dogs loved sniffing around the gardens. We only stayed for a night but we’ll definitely be back! Thank you for creating such a lovely space.

2 nights at The Little Witch Cottage

I stayed at the Witch Cottage in Cairo, NY for three days and two nights, and it was exactly the kind of peaceful retreat I needed. The fireplace inside the cabin was perfect for cozy evenings, and the outdoor fireplace made the quiet nights under the stars feel even more magical. I especially loved the outdoor shower, refreshing and immersive, surrounded by trees and garden peace. The property itself is beautiful and serene. Waking up to the sounds of nature and sharing space with a robin nesting nearby added to the feeling of being fully tucked into the natural world. It’s a truly calming, grounding place. I’d absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking to slow down and reconnect.

We loved tent camping at Blue Wind Nature Camp. Mikes a great host! We chose the further campsite with a clearing surrounded by trees. Beautiful site to wake up in. The indoor shower, toilet and sink was amazing! Highly recommend. Oh! And my 3 boys adored the cats and pups and I loved the chickens.

Camping here was great! The trails were very fun and my pup got to go swimming in the pond- the location was super close to everything we needed but still private and out in the woods, I’d love to come back!

Weekend Trip to Blue Wind Nature Camp

This was my second time staying at Blue Wind with a large group of friends and we loved it! We got hit with some pretty rainy/muddy weather and still had a great time. Mike provided lots of free firewood and made an effort to keep it dry for us. He was very accommodating and the indoor restroom/hot shower was especially appreciated during the rain. The campsite itself was very private but nearby great stores and hikes.

First of all, Thank you Marilyn and Paul for being great hosts to so many families who camp here. We were greeted with lots of love surrounded by animals! Even their cat Tom jumped on our car to say hello. I loved the land, the lake looking over and everyone grilling outside camping around us it’s truly amazing. Every morning we were given the opportunity to feed the animals and have our own experience! If you love Farm Life you will love this place. The Animals are gentle and very loving and perfect place to receive relaxation and healing while you’re at it! My partner and I love to go on our boat as well and we were able to do just that. Thanks so much! & hope to come back very soon!!! 😊

Beaverwood farms was a wonderful experience to camp. My boyfriend and I went for memorial Day weekend and had a great time. The animals in the farm are awesome, so friendly and sweet and fun to be around, especially if you've got some treats on you. They had fresh eggs for sale as well which was a nice surprise in the morning, the wood they have for sale is a great deal, you'll have a campfire all day long. Very pretty property, lake views, boats you can take on the lake, and just overall wonderful treatment from the owners. I am planning on coming back for sure this summer.

We absolutely loved staying at Paul & Marilyn’s property at BeaverWood Farms! There were plenty of different areas that you could set up your campsite, and the farm animals were super friendly. I arrived a bit later than the check in time listed but Paul was very accommodating and the check in process was easy and quick. We definitely recommend bringing boots as the grounds can get a bit muddy and the animals use the bathroom around the entire campground, so be prepared for that haha. Also, beware of the goat named Chaos, as he is ruthless and makes his rounds to all the picnic tables and grills LOL. Paul also hosted a bonfire on the last night we stayed which was super fun and had the entire campground come hang out. Overall we had an amazing time, and we highly recommend staying at BeaverWood Farms!

Primitive Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. Our drive up camp has a 4-6 person prospector type tent, a 10X12 covered tent platform, several individual tent sites with private fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use. The camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. The main tent includes a wood burning stove, folding card table and seating for 4 and bunk bed with 4" thick self-inflating Therm-a-rest MondoKing 3D XXL Queen sized insulated mats for your comfort. For toilet use, we have a CleanWaste loo which is a 5 gal bucket in a toilet seat box. You lift the lid, place a CleanWaste bag in the bucket which has a kitty litter like powder called Poo Powder in it. You do your business, the powder absorbs all the odor and gels all the matter. When done, you lift the seat, take out the bag, tie it up and throw it in the trash. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment on Brown rd across the camp entry road.

The property was part of a much larger farm in the 19th century, then reincarnated as a Beaux Arts style artist’s retreat called ‘Garden of the Gods’ founded in 1908. During this time many artists came to Woodstock, including Hervey White, creator of the early maverick Colony, who is credited with shaping the vision of Woodstock as a ‘Colony of the Arts.’ In 2019 The Source opened as an experimental space for sustainable community. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. There are three sites: one tucked into a meadow in a forest clearing, another under a hemlock grove deeper in the woods, and a third reserved for Long Path thru-hikers who come down from the mountains for a break, which can also be overflow. All are off-grid and rustic but close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, and far enough—and hidden out of view—to offer real privacy. (About a 4-minute walk from your shared toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared flat pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer. Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. Red Fox Meadow Campsite

Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Retreat

NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and power. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. There are two tiny cabins on the property. Both sites have extra space to set up a tent if needed. The Forest Cabin is insulated with hemp, has electric lights and outlets, is bigger inside with a work desk, Anderson crank out windows, a bigger deck, and two twin mattresses under the bed if you need them. The Wildflower Cabin is a bit deeper in the forest, a little smaller, uninsulated with two walls of old-school wood-pane windows that open out to the forest completely, one twin mattress under the bed and a powerstrip for light electric use. Both sites have private fire pits, solar shower stalls, fans for cooling and an electric heater for chilly nights. It's a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall from the campsites. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to the waterfall and the river below. Be aware that the hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm to chillax and enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace site. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

We are a homestead and small campground devoted to the principles of organic farming and self-reliance. Modern agriculture and big business are unsustainable, destroying farmland at an accelerating pace. It is important for us to teach the next generation, there is an alternative. We produce much of our own food. We have friendly goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, donkeys and horses the guests can pet and feed. There are no swimming holes on our property, but many waterfalls and swimming spots within a short drive (see list below). A quick 5 minute drive will get you to one of the best disc golf courses in the north east. For the truly adventurous, Clarksville Cave is a short drive away. Visit their website for list of proper gear and rules. We do rent some of the equipment needed. Moon In The Pond Farm

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.
