My partner and I had such a wonderful stay at Shady Knolls. We received such a warm welcome from our hosts and were given recommendations for local hiking and fishing. The campsite was stocked with everythint we could need and more- toilet paper, drinking water, firewood, coal, towels, cook ware, flashlights, bugspray - even card games. The tent was comfortable and clean. The views were beautiful, and we had 100% privacy. This was a dream camping trip— we will certainly be returning. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an outdoor getaway. It really doesn’t get better than Shady Knolls!

Staying at Shady Knolls made for a great weekend getaway! It's super close to Woodstock and a lot of great hiking trails. The site is secluded and located at the end of a dirt road. Tim, the owner of the property, was friendly and met with me at the base of the private access road. He made sure I was able to get up the road and to show me around. The road can be rocky and steep in some sections but it's doable for most cars.
The campsite has everything you need, including 5 gal water jug, firewood, and cooking equipment. The tent is spacious, watertight, and the bed was comfortable and clean. It was great watching the clouds and rain roll in while sitting under the covered porch area with our dog.
Overall, we had a great time and I recommend Shady Knolls to anyone looking for a secluded mountainside glamping experience.

We loved our two nights at Shadyknolls. It is a totally secluded spot with a great view. The glamping set-up is terrific: the platform tent is set up as a bedroom, with a queen bed, and bedside tables, all zippered-in to keep the bugs out. There is a lovely & spacious porch just outside the bedroom, with two comfy Adirondack chairs, each with an ample end table, and adorned with oil lanterns and candles, all facing a thoughtfully sited view of the mountains. The kitchen and fire pit areas are really well laid out with tools, cookware, and equipment for fire, safety, and waste all accounted for. I believe you could arrive at this site with only the clothes on your back and some food, and you would need nothing else. There was 5 gallons of potable water, a working cookstove, and plenty of firewood.
Tim's wife Kim met us at the end of the paved road, and escorted us up the steep mountain road to the site. We were in a 2WD Toyota Matrix, and got up just fine, with only a moment of slippage, requiring that I back down a bit to more level ground for another go. It's just 60 seconds of steep, and you're there. Not a problem at all. It was dry when we were there in mid-august so we were not bothered by bugs at all.
We really enjoyed an afternoon visit into the hamlet of Woodstock, but honestly, I absolutely love just chilling with a book in my PJs sitting on that porch Shadyknolls. Thanks Tim and Kim

Ours stay at Shadyknolls was great! It was very calming, relaxing with a nice view. Tim made sure we had water to drink, supplies if we wanted to cook or grill, also water to shower with. The place is well with pretty much everything you'll need. Tim was a great host. If you're looking for a relaxing quiet place away from the noise this place is it. It is also close the town.

Tim's campsite is a quiet and relaxing property with a great view of the catskill Mountains. It's very well stocked with everything you'll need to cook or grill. You get a tent set up already aside from the glamping tent plus 2 hammocks. The shower is a 5 gallon shower bag hung on a tree and Tim makes sure you have all the water you need. At night it's so quiet, you could hear a leaf drop and the stars shine brightly through the tree canopy. Remember to bring plenty of bug spray because they're really annoying. Also, it's a steep drive up the mountain so make sure you atleast come with a high clearance awd vehicle. 4x4 preferred (I tried the climb in 2wd in my Nissan Frontier pro4x and the tires slipped on the climb, had to put it in 4x4) clearance wise, you're not gonna be rock scrambling or anything but it's very uneven so low cars will bottom out. I think a CR-V or Rav4 will make the climb just fine with minimal wheel slippage but don't come with a civic or corolla unless you dont mind scraping. There's a hike down to a stream nearby but I wasn't able to explore it while there. I'm definitely planning to come back for some fall foliage camping.

Our stay at Shadyknolls was absolutely perfect. The site was peaceful, private, and surrounded by beautiful woods—it felt like a true escape. Everything was clean, well-stocked, and thoughtfully set up, from the cozy canvas tent and fire pit to the cooking gear and seating areas.
Tim was a fantastic host—super communicative and welcoming. You can tell he really cares about the experience his guests have. We had zero complaints and loved every minute of our stay.
If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable camping trip in the woods with all the essentials taken care of, this is it. Having a 4x4 vehicle will def make your trip easier but we have 0 complaints. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a fantastic time at Shadyknolls and Tim was a great host. The site is beautiful and secluded, and stocked with everything you need for a weekend away. The bed in the tent was clean and comfortable and everything at the site is well maintained.
The road to the campsite is no joke, very steep and rocky, I would not attempt to drive it in a car with low ground clearance or without 4wd.
Talk with Tim before you pack - at the time of our stay there were tons of cooking supplies including a grill, gas stove, grates to cook over the fire, and cookware, firewood, and loads more. The blue shade over the cooking area and the hammocks you see in some of the photos are provided, as well as a second pop-up tent that sleeps 4, and loads of other supplies I can’t begin to list out.

10/10 recommend and likely will be back myself. Very well equipped site with everything you’d need. Water, firewood, a heater.
Actually private. You don’t see any other buildings, hear cars, etc.
Proximity to Woodstock a plus. Easy access to nearby mountain trails, extra supplies.
Driving up the trail was fun. Was very rainy and wet when I went wet so 4x4 was needed.

Such a cute and private spot! Looked exactly like the photos, with a beautiful view. Tim was a great host. The campsite was clean and fully stocked, with lots of essentials like hand sanitizer, stovetop, plenty of drinking water, citronella candles, firewood, etc. We had a really lovely time and hope to come back. Having the camp shower and sitting by the fire was a real blessing after a long hike. There are plenty of trails nearby to explore, including some local walks right off the campsite. Great proximity to town too. It doesnt feel isolated but you’re still totally immersed in the forest with only sounds of nature. Be aware it is a bit of a rocky road getting up so you need 4wd but it was so nice being able to park right at the site! Cell service was spotty at the campsite but worked just fine a little bit down the road, so it was perfect for disconnecting but easy to check phones as needed too. If you’re considering staying here, I would definifely recommend it!

Secluded campsite after a quick drive up to the top of a small mountain. This site had everything we could hope for -- a nice canvas tent, an amazing view, and everything we needed to have a good time. Would come back in a heartbeat just for the view alone!
