Alexander’s campsite is nestled in a back lot of his farm/cidery/pizza oven farm. This man seems to do it all. He raises free range chickens, goats, and even has a few friendly guard dogs keeping a watchful eye on the flock. Located through a series of mowed paths in the back of his property - you can see the house but even so we never felt like we were in anyone’s way. We had a fire pit, a few tables, and were about 100’ and a winding path away from the river. The fireflies and thick tree canopy kept the site dark and fun at night.
Alexander was a responsive host always answering questions. He let us fill water from the spigot by his home. He even gave us some farm fresh eggs in the morning. A sweet guy!
Only draw back - if you’re looking to feel like you’re out in the middle of nowhere this isn’t the spot. You can hear the highway all night long.

Baby goats! 2 weeks old. Need I say more. And friendly dogs and the campsite was easy and very flat. Had a bit of a bobble on checkin but he felt bad about it so have us free cider, 🎉

We had the best time on our trip here! We had a nice private spot for our camper, access to a fire pit with tables and chairs, grill and tiki torches. Alex was so nice and responsive with any questions; I asked if we could sample some cider, and he brought us two glasses while we pet the goats and dogs! On our last night, we were lucky enough to be around when a local mountain biking group came for their regular pizza and cider tasting and everyone was so friendly and welcoming -- if you get the chance, Alex is quite the pizza chef and his cider is top notch! He even let my husband borrow a mountain bike to go out with the group. We are already plotting our next escape here. (And the local rail to trail is one of the nicest I've been on.)

We had the best time here! The host was amazing. The campsite was perfect, and it was so fun to play with the goats! I would definitely recommend this site to anyone. Hope to come back soon So we have a chance to try out the pizza and cider!

Alex is an amazing host! We’ve stayed here twice and would recommend it to anyone. The clearing for camping on his property feels private and is close to nearby towns.

Great spot! Alex was a very generous host and set up the grill, hauled in some firewood, and kept us fed with his wood fired pizza and delicious cider. The campsite is just a few minutes away from Kingston, and 20-30 mins away from all of the hiking and swimming spots we wanted to go to. Perfect if you want a convenient site close to town instead of a remote/primitive campsite.

Tent area is nice, grassy, flat, and private, with room for multiple tents. The short walk back to it gets waterlogged in the rain. Host is welcoming and considerate. He lent us a wagon to carry stuff over, and his cider is delicious. Bring a water source and stove. Earplugs are helpful for road and train noise. The campsite doesn’t have access to the river.

After biking all the way from Brooklyn, NY, I reached the farm, and I must say that my stay there surpassed all my expectations. The camping experience was nothing short of amazing, and it was made even better by the warm hospitality of Alex, who also introduced me to his friends. The farm, a true sanctuary, left a lasting impression on me. As for the pizza, it was truly exceptional, on par with some of the best spots in NYC. I can't express enough praise for Alex and his wonderful farm, and I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit.

I don’t know where to start. We arrived to find a very out of the way camping area that was clean and easy to access. We joined Alex for a wonderful evening of wood fired pizza, fine refreshments and great conversation along with a few other locals who had stoped for some amazing pizza. We found out that Alex was preparing an Oktoberfest meal the next day so after seeing some of the local sites we went back for lunch. The adventure couldn’t have been better, we met some new friends and dined on a fabulous menu of authentic Bavarian cuisine prepared by Alex for the feast. We will definitely be returning!!!

Alexander was an excellent host! Super easy to communicate with and very friendly. He has a wonderful property and a barn at the front with beers on tap and pizzas in the oven on the weekend as a roadside restaurant for travelers. The location is about 15 minutes from Woodstock and right outside of Kingston, so if you ever need anything you are very close to civilization. If you are looking for something out in the wilderness, this may not be the place for you but if you want a camp feel with the security of civilization close by, then this might be great for you! The site itself is at the back of the property and backs up into a river/stream. The stream was a bit high when we were there so we couldn't sit in the water like some of the pictures.

Our farm stay was amazing. We were tucked back in our own private garden. The natural beauty of the Catskills and the cute towns were all easily accessible.
Above all, Alex was an amazing host. He was so helpful, cutting back plants to make our site more accessible and giving us tons of great recommendations for the area. On weekends, he makes amazing homemade pizzas and has local brews for sale. We met all sorts of people who stopped for pizza and drinks, and enjoyed some delicious pizza and beer ourselves.
And the baby goats! Loved our stay so much.

We loved Alex’s home and campsite. He greeted us with his new puppy and showed us the campsite and property, and started a fire for us. He has baby goats! There is a nice creek behind the campsite that is perfect at sunset. There is a private entrance for a bathroom that is COVID safe. We didn’t take the opportunity but he owns property across the street where you can take a hike. We will definitely recommend his farm.

Alex is so great! He is just a lovely person and makes you feel very welcome on his property. The property is beautiful and so peaceful - the rooster & hen, the mama & baby goats, the nearby river, the trails through the forrest — you really get a little of everything! And if that wasn’t enough, Alex is a chef! He made us a delicious breakfast and we sat outside enjoying a beautiful morning on the farm while slammin on some good eats! Book your trip to his little oasis now - you won’t be disappointed! We will definitely be back and can’t wait to see what else he does with all his land!

Another wonderful stay at Alex’s farm. We LOVE it here. One week after our first stay, we couldn’t help ourselves and came back for more. The creek time was special and we can’t thank Alex enough for sending us off with coffee and delicious breakfast sandwiches in the morning. We’re looking forward to coming back again soon!

Friendly fist and great site! I've never been woken up by a rooster before, so that was cool!
Getting out camper to the sit was a small challenge, but the host was very helpful, and it ended up working out nicely.
The site was very comfortable and secluded, and had plenty of nice amenities, like a grill and firewood. The host even showed us to the river nearby, introduced us to his animals, and offered coffee or tea in the morning.

Alex's spot is magical.
He has cultivated a special space and his appreciation for the land is clear. Upon arrival we were greeted by his adorable puppy Asterix and momma and kid goat. The campsite is comfortable and easy to use (flat, mowed grass; picnic table; grill; plenty of chairs; firepit). There's also access to an indoor bathroom which was super super clean.
We did the catered breakfast which is well-worth having. Alex is a great cook. My favorite spot were the lounge chairs perfectly positioned to enjoy the sun in the morning.
Can't wait to come back and see how big Asterix has grown.

Great Hipcamp site! Perfect for a quick weekend away from the city. The host was amazing and friendly. The camp area was set in a clearing in the farm/gardens and was lovely. Really great amenities at the camp site with a grill, large picnic table, lounge chairs and fire pit! Fun trails lead to a gorgeous river stream area to check out. The host also makes fantastic wood fired pizza, it was a huge hit with our kids!

We had a fantastic time camping out at Vonsaladfarm. The spot feels serene and secluded, and is a short stroll to a lovely creek. Alexander was a gracious and friendly host, helping us find everything we needed to settle in, and gave great recommendations for nearby spots to pick up supplies. We wished we could have stayed longer to get to know the newly arrived baby goats, explore more of the farm's many winding paths, and try some of Alexander's homemade wood-fired pizza. We'd definitely pitch our tents at Vonsaladfarm again!

We had a blast. Alex is great. The farm is lovely. Definitely indulge in a pizza or two. He loaded ours with boar, wild-foraged mushrooms and some nasturtiums from the garden. Looks like he'll have pumpkins and corn coming in soon.

This site is great and Alex is Amazing!
The site area is a beautiful clearing, surrounded (in warm months) by tall wildflowers and plants. There is a serious picnic table, 2 long lounge chairs, 2 coffee tables and enough lawn chairs to accommodate a good sized group of friends. Ground is level and soft for easy tent setup, and you can park close if you want to attach the tent to a car. We were pleasantly surprised when Alex showed us a propane BBQ Grill with utensils was also in the clearing- so buy some upstate corn & veggies down the road. There is also a hand washing station out front, and a side entrance to small bathroom in the house. We & Alex used masks whenever we were close.
Walking around Vonsalad farm is beautiful. Flowers, Herbs and Vegetables everywhere (August), with winding cut paths making the property feel even bigger than it is. A family of Hummingbirds visited flowers outside our tent door, rabbits, wild birds and hawks passed through all day. There is also a dog if you're lucky.
The river is only a minute's walk through the woods from the tent site- sandals would be a good move. The current was perfect for setting some chairs in and spending the late afternoon. Not deep enough to swim at this bend, but there are lots of swim-able bodies you can drive to.
We used this site as our home base and were able to easily drive to longer hikes at Blue Mountain State Park, Onteora Lake, Kaaterskill Wild Forest and others.
Alex is a great cook! We did the breakfast and it far exceeded expectations. The weather was nice and we had sunrise eggs, bacon, coffee, orange juice, homemade bread, butter, different jams.... it was great.
We did this trip for a couple's getaway weekend, but would also work very well for a group of friends. Would do again.
