Upper Esopus Creekside Camp

3 sites · Tents100 acres · Big Indian, Ulster
**IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR WINTER CAMPERS: If there is enough snow to make the camp road impassable by car, park at our house driveway where a cleared path will allow you to access the camp on foot, with toboggan/sled for your gear, about 150 yards away.** Camp on the Esopus Creek in the Big Indian-Oliverea Valley surrounded by seven 3500' Catskill High Peaks including Slide Mountain, the tallest in the Catskills. Our PRIVATE camp (no other campers) is situated on 100 acres of land in the middle of the Catskill State Park. We are the closest HipCamp site to Slide Mountain, the Catskills tallest peak at 4180 feet. A perfect base camp for some of the best hiking in the Catskills, the site is bordered by Forever Wild Forest and is minutes from the trailheads to Balsam, Giant Ledge, Panther, Big Indian, Slide Mountain and dozens more peaks within 30 minutes or so away. You can walk to a swimming hole on a winding path through a wildflower meadow blazed with rock cairns along a half mile of private waterfront. Try your luck at catching some wild Brook Trout on the world famous Esopus Creek! The camp has several tent sites with individual fire rings, as well as a bunkhouse and a leanto for day use.. Camp table and cook pit are covered from the elements. Open WiFi is available at the Campkeeper home a short woods walk away. Seasoned bundled 16" firewood is available by honor box cash payment a few doors up on Brown rd adjacent to the camp entry road. Rules: 'Almost' anything goes. Learn about 'pack-in pack-out/leave no trace camping' and the 'leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures' motto. Due to local laws, no music or noise louder than 60 decibels is allowed which is about as loud as conversation with 20 people in a restaurant, an office of 20 people speaking or being on the phone, background music typically heard in restaurants and public spaces, an air conditioning unit at 100 feet. Our site is to be best enjoyed for the sounds that do exist naturally, the many birds singing their song, the babbling Esopus Creek, the rustling leaves on the trees. Ask questions, I will always answer anything about camping and am thrilled to share my knowledge. Extras: -I have several tents available including a large 5 person Eureka! Copper Canyon tent for $15.00, and 4 two person backpacking tents (Eureka! Timberline, Eureka! Prism, 2 Gazelle tents, and Moss Starlet tent) for $10.00 each. -I have 4 comfortable 2" thick Therm-a-rest Camprest foam and air mattresses for $8.00 each.

Triple Creek

2 sites · Tents250000 acres · West Kill, Greene
An old Catskill farmhouse built late 19th century but first deeded 1820. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. At one time was the center of Spruceton - post office and dance hall. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. This is your "staging area". The actual site is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets unless you're some place on the tundra. Hidden mountain valley. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along only a few yards east of your site. Very basic. No cabin. No platform. Need tent or tarp and sleep under the stars. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket, hospital style commode. Parking site just below camp site, an easy two minute walk. No vehicles at camp site itself. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house. 11 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains. In fact, these mountains constitute the largest dening area in the Catskills. Not likely to see one unless it's running away from you, or if you don't put your food back in its container and lock it in your vehicle with the windows closed. Anything with an attractive aroma? Lock it up. Bear spray at site. You won't need it but consider it insurance for absolute peace of mind. We would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from Amazon or wherever. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery & Spruceton Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. In principle, I want to say ADA accessible, but we would need to consult on it first for safety's sake. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. 1 vehicle at site. 4 wheel or all wheel drive. 4.5 miles up County Rte 6 to 1833 Spruceton Rd., NY 12492 Old white farmhouse. On left. Coach lights. American flag. Welcome sign. Look for Baker Rd. BRIDGE directly opposite on right Stop at house for check in and instructions to site. And Drive Carefully! PS: Pack it in. Pack it out. Please leave campsite as pristine as you found it.

Steady Slope Fields and Forest

3 sites · Lodging, Tents58 acres · Delhi, Delaware
This land was once all pasture for grazing animals. We moved to Delaware County in November 2018 to start our family and pursue dreams of working on the land. The initial idea was to find a place we could live, garden, and raise a few animals while hosting guests and sharing the land with visitors. When we found this place on Williams Road, we loved the mix of rural and proximity to a thriving country town. We now have two kids and enjoy living in Delhi so much we hardly leave the town limits! There are wonderful restaurants, a great year-round farmers market, grocery stores, and many other services and amenities you can find listed towards the end of this guide. Our Catskill Mountain home is situated on a historic early 19th century farm site. Parts of the house might be more than 190 years old! With several additions and upgrades we think the house has lots of charm and enjoy the many modern touches. The property is overgrown pastures and a few steeper slopes with medium growth trees. After the industrial period saw this region nearly deforested, the land was granted to settlers who cleared fields and planted grass. Our immediate vicinity was knows for it’s cattle (Bovina), mostly for diary, and sheep. The agriculture in Delaware County has been on a decline since the advent of rail shipping opened New York City markets to farms in less challenging geographies. Construction of the NYC fresh water system (DEP Watershed) may have contributed to this decline, but about 60-70 years ago the majority of pastures, especially less productive parcels were abandoned to the “weed trees”. These first succession trees grew quickly in the sunny meadows and covered the hills; trees such as Ash, Hawthorn, and Norway Spruce. Fences and barns were left to return to the earth. On our property the stone walls that boarder the fields are the most stark reminder of the intensive agriculture practiced here.
