Cranberry Lake offers classic Adirondack camping with a sandy beach and fishing pier to cast off. Rollins Pond near Saranac Lake has boat rentals for a variety of small crafts, making it great for boaters. Or bring your own boat to Forked Lake campground for plenty of privacy. Many of the tent sites have private docks and are accessible only on by boat or on foot. Most of the state grounds have trailer sites for RVs. But if you want electrical and sewage hook-ups, you'll need to stay at one of the nearby private RV parks.

Camping is bare-bones but beautiful in the Moose River Plains Preserve. This wilderness area offers private sites and quiet nights, with both rustic campgrounds and primitive sites. Hiking trails crisscross the small lakes in this forest, making it ideal for backpackers.

To really leave civilization, pitch camp at the many lean-tos scattered across the forests. These shelters provide true wilderness immersion. But you'll need to trade basics like bathrooms and water. The Uphill and Beaver Point lean-tos are well-situated if you're climbing high peaks like Mount Colden.

Anglers can find campgrounds close to some of the region's best fishing. The Meadowbrook campground is about 5 miles from Lake Placid for trout fishing. The Wilmington Notch campground on the Ausable River has some of the best fly-fishing in the country.

As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since. Champlain Valley Alpacas and Beef is a family farm owned and operated by the Foshay family since 1998. Our girls, Gracie and Olivia are grown now. Gracie is married to Jaron and they live in Glendale,AZ . Olivia and her husband Guthrie own and operate American Window Cleaning II. Our herd of alpacas once was shown successfully in the Eastern States, now mostly range on the farm, having sweet cria (babies), growing magnificent fiber and effortlessly entertaining throngs of wedding guests! Our beef herd, comprised of Black and Red Angus, Hereford and Belted Galways has fluxuated as the market and hay supplies demand. We have a vineyard of Marquette grapes that are so delicious, that we have to race the birds for them in the fall. Our land is quiet, off the beaten path, and brimming with beautiful views of mountains, hills, valleys with winding creeks. This property has seen years of agriculture as a sheep farm, dairy farm and a fence company. We are happy to share this land and our gentle creatures with you. Recently we have added the winter season for the adventurous Clamping crowd. The cottage is very private, with alpacas nearby. Camp TedRock is awesome! The site is beautiful, well maintained, and peaceful. There are lots of details that show the care put into the experience, like the extra cot, extra lanterns, a bag of kindling, and hand written notes on nearby mountains and lakes. We would definitely come back!

Only stayed for a quick night in our way up to Maine. But it was easy to find and a cute location! Cabin gets chilly (no insulation) but manageable with a good sleeping bag. Loved playing with the farm dogs, and the eggs were delicious!

What a great trip! The cabin was wonderful with the wood stove and such a great history there. The property was VERY secluded and quiet, a great pond for the dog to jump in, horses right in the meadow, and great trails right off rhe edge of the yard. A+ trip and hosts, well def be back!

Ken hosts one of the most incredible campsites I’ve had the pleasure of staying at, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s one of the kindest souls I’ve met too! Make sure to bring a camera when you visit, the view is not something you’ll want to forget, nor the beautiful sites around the campground. This is a must-stay, and I won’t be surprised if Ken ends up being booked year-round!!! (Also, we recommend a car with higher suspension and four wheel drive as to make the trip up to the lean-to easier!) Thanks Ken :)

Ken’s site is just perfect. To die for view. Very nice lean to with a hammock where we stood our tent. Clear instructions. He sent a map and called to make sure we will settle good. You need a four wheel vehicle to get close to the lean to. Otherwise, there’s a nice campsite near the bathhouse as well. We loved our stay here. Felt super safe. And the outhouse is very accessible too if you need to go in the middle of the night. Thank you, Ken!

Weekend Trip to Camp TedRock Adirondack Retreat

My buddy and I booked with Ted for a weekend hiking trip up to the ADK's. Coming 9 hours from pittsburgh after work on friday we got in super late/early saturday morning. Knowing our mid night arrival. Ted went out and hung glow sticks for us to help us navigate back to the cabin. Was unexpected and came in clutch! The a frame was perfect for our needs. The outhouse is in great condition. Beautiful property. Peaceful and well maintained. Will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Adirondack Rustic Retreat

We had a great stay here at the end of September with our dog. The property is beautiful. The place is really peaceful - just the sound of owls at night, no traffic noise at all. There's virtually no light pollution, so we had a really nice view of the stars at night. The beach area was well equipped with a fire pit, propane grill, basic utensils, tiki torches and even a screen room so you can eat without being bothered by bugs (though that wasn't really a problem when we were there). The cabin was cozy too. Overall, a very nice experience. We would love to come back again.

Beautiful farm with a friendly host and a bunch of friendly dogs that greeted us when we arrived and came to the cabin to see us when we woke up in the morning. It was a peaceful night and we enjoyed being able to feed and learn about the alpacas. There are also chickens and turkeys roaming about. A real treat for animal lovers. Will definitely come back!
