Mike and Loellen discovered Ruttger’s Camping Resort in the winter of 2005 while driving around the area and scanning websites for trailers. We bought a trailer on a seasonal site and have thoroughly enjoyed our summers here ever since! Our sons grew up on the lake, boating and fishing and exploring the area and we have developed a wonderful lake-family. We have watched Bill and Candy Ruttger build the resort into the beautiful property that it is today and feel privileged to have the opportunity to now share it with you. Under our new ownership and with a new name, Sunset Pines MN in January 2023, we are eager to carry on the legacy created by our friends and mentors. I bought this land near Pine River in August 2018. I wanted to have my own hunting land and something that was close to town and trails. A property that had a potential of multi-recreational use for people to enjoy while visiting. There are about 40 acres of county land surrounding three sides of the property. The main trail on my land goes thru the majority of the county land and loops back connecting to my main trail again.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to watch the diamonds dance on the lake, listen to the birds sing and watch the butterflies flutter about in the meadow, you'll instantly start to relax.

We offer THREE campsites, Meadow and Oak which you drive to and Bay which is a walk in site.  We also offer The Loft.  

Meadow is in an open meadow hill alongside forest and wetland, situated next to West Lake with dock access. Paddle to Waukenabo Lake through the channel. View the eagle's nest. Campfire ring in this site.

Launching in 2025, the walk-in site, BAY ,situated on Waukenabo Lake.  Want to see if backpacking in to a site is for you?  Use this opportunity to find out!  Can you plan out a 1 or 2 night camping adventure and be self-sufficient?  You'll park you vehichle and walk a .2 mile trail through the woods and cedars into your campsite.  Firering and picnic table provided.  Pack in your water, cooking supplies, food, tent, sleeping bag and biodegradalbe toilet paper for #1s.

Launching in 2025 The Loft!  An A-Frame room with electricity and a deck

From Meadow and Bay, you have easy access [5-minute walk] to the outhouse called the "Scheissplatz" known as the cleanest and cutest in Aitkin County. Fresh well water available to all campers.  Bring your container sto fill up. Wood can be gathered from the forest floor or any dead tree branches.  No cutting of live trees. Do NOT peel the birch bark from live trees!  You may bring your own wood as long as you burn it all up. 

You can walk to the our pole shed, "Steinbeck" and pet the animals.  We have a horse "Buddy", donkey "Archer", two goats "Frank and Randy", six sheep "Lorraine, Mabel, April, Lynn and Princess Mary Margaret just to name a few! We have 3 egg laying hens named "The Ladies", and our Brittany Spaniel dog., "Benji."  You can hike through the woods.  We are situated in 174 acres and adjacent to state forest land.  The loons call in the evening and life is good relaxing at East Lake Ranch.  Great first time experience for kids.

Enjoy kayaking or canoeing on West Lake and Waukenabo Lake.  Lots of wildlife, beaver lodge in the channel.  Great fishing lakes as well.  Public Access on Waukenabo Lake.  Rustic & private dock provided at our East Lake Ranch campsites.

R&R Mille Lacs

Learn more about this land:     R&R Mille Lacs offers a private channel lake lot on beautiful Mille Lacs! The site will have a pull through driveway with 2 RV spots with electricity and water on a gravel pad. The gravel drive through is big enough for 1 more RV but there are no hookups. $60 per RV per night. (So if your group brings 3 RVs it totals to $180.00 per night. Tents are also allowed.  There is one dump station as you pull out.     The site also has a private dock to put your boat or other water toys on. With just a short boat ride through the channel you can be out fishing on the mighty Mille Lacs in minutes. There are no waves to worry about in the channel so just tying up to the dock is nice and easy. With the calm waters it is a great place to use your kayak or paddle board, or just some fishing off the dock. There will be a four person paddle boat available for guests, you must bring your own lifejackets for any water activities.  There are also atv or mountain bike trails just feet away from the site. There is a fire pit on site with free split firewood.     We are located 5 minutes south of Garrison, and 5 minutes north of Grand Casino Mille Lacs, and right across the road from Northwood Hills golf course with Charlie’s Bar & Grill.      To launch your boat there are public water accesses to the north and south or there is a private launch near the mouth of the channel. It has a new cement ramp. To use the ramp you have a one time payment of $10.00.

Harvest Loon Camp

🔥Wood available for use with woodstove and campfires. 

🛌 Campers WILL NEED to provide their own bedding depending on their sleeping needs (pillows, linens, blankets). Accommodations include a bunk with two full beds stacked, a twin daybed and trundle (so two twin beds) and another full sized bed. All open concept. 

Also bring your own towels. 

🍳 Kitchen has antique pots, pans, utensils, coffeepot, microwave, toaster, stove and refrigerator for your use.

🌟 Gorgeous furnished porch to watch wildlife. Grocery store within 5 miles.

🦆 This location is also perfect for horseback riding and snowmobiling and ice fishing. George lake is known to have nice sized pan fish.

Plenty of firewood is available for your stay.

The kitchen has lots of room to prepare a meal.

The screened in porch is a great spot to hang out and has it's own large picnic table. The perfect place to share a meal with friends.

Warming up by the fire as the sun goes down.

A hot drink by the campfire is the perfect way to end the day here.

You'll be stunned by the view the first time you approach the cabin.

Instructions, a game generously gifted from a previous guest, and the guestbook are on the dining table in the cabin.

A deck of cards on the shelf was the perfect way to pass some time inside during a morning drizzle.
