Our campsites lie along the Old Buffalo Trace, the name given by early pioneers to the massive trail left by centuries of migrating bison that traveled right through this property. Making their way between salt and mineral licks along the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers, these herds were part of the plentiful wild game which was the reason so many local native tribes referred to old "Cain-tuk-ee" as their "Happy Hunting Ground". Our 7 campsites are constructed on "The Old Coates Homestead" where we make our home in the original 1858 Homestead house which we recently restored and where we make our delicious gourmet foods. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. My place is secluded and peaceful. Its a wooded country setting and is a primitive site. There are no facilities or utilities, there is an outhouse/self composting (follow up your business with dropping leaves in after). It may not be suitable for children as there are active brush/wood burn piles on the land. See all photos and ask questions, please. I want it to be enjoyable for all who book. It’s also noteworthy that there are dogs in the area that roam free, it’s way out in the country, there are no leash laws. I’ve never had any issues with unfriendly dogs, but always be aware. It’s at a dead end road, no thru traffic. You can stay and enjoy some amazing stargazing, (there is minimal lighting and a very dark, clear view of the night sky) and lots of peace and quiet or explore the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounding the property or travel a short distance and see so many nearby amazing areas…Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge State Park, NADA Tunnel, Sky Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, Carter Caves State Park, Grayson Lake, Rudy’s Ranch. I don’t even know where to start! This property is absolutely gorgeous. The trail markers around the property show off some of the coolest spots, but even just relaxing by the fire pit was beautiful. Lots of wildlife sounds especially at night. The site is very secluded and feels like a backcountry camp! This is my favorite Hipcamp find so far! Will hopefully be back soon :)

The property was absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful sunsets. Rolling green fields. You will probably be visited by some cattle as they wander and graze, along with an adorable herd of little goats. The drive way is long, winding and hilly but worth it to get back at the edge of the open fields. The hosts were very sweet and accommodating. I wish we could have stayed longer!

Camping on Kevin’s land was an awesome way to end my trip! Kevin was incredibly helpful in picking out my site for the night and showing me all around the farm. The location on the river was awesome for a nice fire at night and to really feel at home with the nature of the area. The farm animals that would visit during the stay was also a very fun part of the stay. Very awesome spot!

My wife, three boys and our dog really enjoyed our camping trip and meeting Keven! He was so hospitable and was so helpful in making sure we had a great time. We picked the campsite closest to the creek as our boys wanted to explore and hike with our pup. Even with the heat wave, our boys had a great time with all the mini-horses, donkeys and “Kong” (you’ll have to visit to learn about that 😁). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and thank you, Keven!

Super happy to have found this sweet little spot ...even though it's in a residential area with neighbors around, there's a sense of privacy thanks to the fence that goes around part of the cabin site. I was never bothered by anyone in the area and was left to enjoy the site in peace. I'm a solo female traveler and felt very safe in the space. Recommended for single travelers or couples who want to get close and cozy. It's far enough from main roads that I wasn't bothered by traffic noise. For someone who usually primitive camps to save money on travel, the site is an incredible value with the included convenience of a protective roof over your head, a clean porta potty only several steps away, and parking right next to the site. Packing in and out has never gone so easily and quickly for me as it did here. And whenever you need something or have a question, MJ is so quick to respond and helpful in every way! Things to know before you go: Cell service is a little spotty at the site (I have TMobile). The cabin's wifi helps get your directions downloaded when you want to go places. You have to drive about 20 minutes for gas and ice, and about 30 minutes for restaurants as close as Morehead. If you go there, visit the Fuzzy Duck for coffee/tea and Coffee Tree Books, great local shops all in the same building. Lovely birds in the area and spectacular summer night lightning bug shows. The gooseberries in the garden were a special treat. I can't wait to book again!

The best all around experience you could ask for! We had essentially a whole hilltop to ourselves, with beautiful views of both the sunset and sunrise. The grass was cut, area clean, and the closest neighbors were about a 1/4 mile away - which allowed our dog to have a great and unbothered time. The water spicket right in the campsite was a bonus! Not far up the road were full bathrooms with showers, and a very nice common area with games and amenities for anyone. The hosts were communicative and friendly, it’s very clear they take care of this place. A great time and we hope to return!

We loved our stay at Trace Space! It truly is a unique place. The A-frame is spacious, comfortable, and really has everything you need. The whole site site is adorned with thoughtful personal touches and makes for magical stay. Theres the pollinator friendly garden, fire pit sitting area, handpainted picinc table, firefly light show, handcrafted artwork, starry night, and so much more. The A-frame frame opens up and and creates a nice little veranda feel. Mother nature decided to hit us with 90+ temps but it never felt like that there. It's a 5 star setup. The hosts were absolutely amazing. I let them know I was traveling with my daughter see the area and they went above and beyond. They knew all the spots and events going on. They made some special arrangements for her visit that made it truly memorable. She checked off a couple bucket list items! They were super helpful and absolutely wonderful. 10/10! There are so many things to do within an hour or less: Red River Gorge, Daniel Boone National Forest, Carter Caves, Natural Bridge, Cave Run... We didn't even scratch the surface. That said, I'd have been just as happy in the cabin reading or drawing the weekend away. So grateful to have found and be hosted by Trace Space. We'll be back for sure!

My wife and I stayed here with our pup in a rooftop tent on our truck. We had an unbelievable time and the land was incredible to stay on. Back by the deck there was plenty of shade, keeping it very cool and comfortable in 80°F+ temps. We were very much in the woods, so be sure to treat any dogs for ticks. There were 3 trails on the property that were fun to walk. I would suggest being prepared to walk around in the woods for a while if you plan to walk them. The markings were tough to follow and some of the trials felt more like a deer path than a trail. Overall, I would give it 5/5 as far as a fun place to stay!

Our host, Josh Handy, was terrific. The location is a renovated pop up camper which he fashioned with wood from his grandfather’s 200 year old barn when it was torn down. It has an open barn about 30 yards away with very nice restroom facilities, H/C shower and an outdoor kitchen. The land itself comprises part of a farm with both open meadow and wooded trails. Perfect for travelers and dogs. Highly recommended!

We arrived late which was a bummer because Josh has an amazing setup! He had a place for us to sit and eat along with grill. He had a fire pit with a bench. It was the perfect setup! The bathroom and shower were super clean! After we arrived we got setup with our tent and we just stared out the ceiling because the stars were breathtaking. Did I mention my dog loved it there too? Because he did! I walked him in the morning and he loved every bit of it. 10/10 highly recommend!

It is a great site - especially if you have a group of people. It is a shame that some people leave there trash in the firepit instead of putting it in the provided garbage receptacles. A little tricky getting in there on a motorcycle as there is a rocky climb as you enter the property. an be done on an adventure motorcycle but not recommend for a low Harley.

We had such a great camping experience. My son and I hammock camped while on a motorcycle road trip. We were able to stay in a newly built pavilion on top of a hill. It was so nice since a large storm rolled through during the first night. Because of it, we and our gear, were able to stay dry without any rain tarps. The property is very close to Natural Bridge SP and the RRG area. We had a really great time.

Our remote 375 acres part farm and part natural woodland nestled up to Daniel Boone Forest is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking trails onsite and plenty of woods to explore. ATVs or side by sides are welcome to be used on the main gravel roads and some designated areas of our property. There is plenty of wildlife around but no hunting is allowed. Our designated tent sites do have firepits and picnic tables. Our trek in sites do not have those options. Pets are welcome for $10 per pet/per booking and they do need to be leashed/under control at all times. This is an extra so please be sure to add that if you plan to bring your pet. Please pick up after them. We are a short driving distance from West Liberty, Cave Run Lake, Grayson Lake, Carter Caves, Morehead, Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. We are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest store so you'll want to come prepared. We are located in West Liberty (Morgan County). There is a centrally located bathhouse with toilet, shower and sink and a hose for potable water. We have firewood for sale for $15 per bundle and is an extra option when booking(use what you need during your stay and it is located at the tent sites), you can bring your own and you are welcome to gather from the surrounding area but please do not cut down any living trees/limbs.

We're a family that loves to camp; and while we love a stop at a KOA or community campground, we sometimes crave quiet time in nature without the noise and distraction of other campers. That's what makes The LAAAAND so special. The property is comprised of 50 pristine acres, with a mix of fields and woods, that bump up against another 250 acres owned by our family friends. The southern perimeter of the property is all cliff line, so you feel truly remote. The possibilities of sound pollution are limited to a far-off dog barking, horses being ridden down a nearby trail, or the possible hum of a distant lumber yard. Other than that, you'll mostly hear the wind rustling trees, deer and critters making their way through the woods, and possibly a waterfall at certain times of the year. Oh, and you will absolutely hear whipoorwhills, most likely at a time you'd rather not (we've decided they're charming). Over the nearly 2 decades we've owned this property we have spent countless weekends enjoying the simplest of pleasures; watching butterflies dance in the tree canopy, having dance parties at sunset on the deck, forging new trails and hiking into the unkown, sitting in the truck bed late at night gazing at a star-covered sky counting shooting stars. If you are looking for a space and place to reset and reconnect, The LAAAAND is waiting for you.
