When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here. We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site. We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. Each tree is beautiful in its own way, but perhaps no trunk is better for squeezing than those in the 200-year old white pine grove in the Whittemore Recreation Area of the Peoples Forest. One can only hug so many trees, however, so it’s a good thing there are lots of other things to do in the American Legion and Peoples State Forests. The trails that wind through these wooded acres will keep hikers on their feet for days on end. Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

We’ve stayed here twice so far this year. Chris and Tiffany’s property is super close to Mystic restaurant and shops, and the Cross Sound Ferry. The camping spot is private, quiet and peaceful. It is next to the barn with the animals so you occasionally hear 🐑 🐐 🐓 but that’s to be expected on a farm. We are able to plug in and refill our water tank if needed. We will definitely be back!

We camped at Blackburn Farm for three nights. Water and electric hookup. It was excellent. A secluded spot but very close to Mystic Seaport, USS Nautilus Museum, and other sites. Chris was an excellent host and offered places to eat and things to see. He even provided a extra length of hose after I realized I didn't have a long enough to reach the water spicket. Can't recommend this spot enough. We will certainly recommend this to other friends and family. The only thing I would remind RVers about is the water hookup is approximately 40 feet away and the electric hookup is 15 amp, so not a enough to run your AC. However, we ran our fan and the site is nice and shady throughout most of the day, keeping the camper nice and cool.

This was our first HipCamp experience and it did not disappoint. Very beautiful and secluded property with lovely sheep and goats to keep you company. Chris was very responsive and accommodating during our visit. We will definitely stay here again when in the NE area!

Loved this site! A little tricky to navigate to, but quite fun that’s it’s hidden away in the woods with not a traffic sound to be heard. The animals are so cute (fainting goats Marshmallow & Graham Cracker were a huge hit with the toddler), electric hookup is easy and potable water very nearby, and the hosts were so lovely, welcoming us and communicating promptly to make sure we were settled in alright. We got their recs for activities and food in the area, as well- would love to return to Mystic, and when we do, we’ll be staying here again!

The spot was perfect. Electric and water set up was spot on. Super close to Mystic, few town roads being you right there, which was what we were looking for. Chris was super responsive and the whole experience was lovely.

Probably better for smaller campers because of the path up to the campsite. But once there, a secluded spot. The owner is very friendly and helpful and communicates well.

Beautiful area. Loved the miles of excellent trails right from the campsite. The farm animals were fun to share space with. Truly on the farm experience.
