The 160 acre ranch was homesteaded by my grandfather over 100 years ago. He was an engineer.

The plan was to use this property as summer grazing for his cattle. The cattle were wintered at the other ranch about 10 miles away, which was homesteaded by my great grandfather.
Because my grandfather could survey, he made sure the property lines zigzaged up the valley so the small creek was in the middle to provide water for the animals. He chose well. It is a beautiful, quiet place with elk, deer and wild turkeys. There are tons of wild flowers in the summer.
Columbines, the Colorado state flower, wild roses, paintbrushes and lots of wild chokecherries. With nice views of nearby mountains, open pastures, evergreen forests and aspen groves, it looks like it did 100 years ago. Plus, there are a couple of ponds for your dogs to cool off in. Since the first cattle, the ranch has also been home to goats, chickens, horses, and now more goats, alpacas and llamas. And of course the Great Pyrenees ranch dogs.
I had a house built a few years ago and live on the property full time. The ranch is surrounded by Pike National Forest with the Colorado Trail connecting the property in a number of places. Some of the highest ranked mountain bike trails are nearby. There are lots of places on and off the property to hike, mountain bike and ride your horse. Elevation 8,000 feet, Average Summer Temperatures: Days 60-80 f, Nights 45-60 f, Sunshine Average 73-80%, Colorado Trail Segment 3, USGS Maps: Windy Peak; Green Mountain quadrangles. This is the official info. Basically, the weather is usually similar to the Denver area - just 10 degrees cooler.
About 8 miles away is the small town of Bailey. It has just about everything you might need: small grocery store, coffee shops, gas, laundry, a dollar store, hardware store, camping and sports equipment, brew pub, winery, a few restaurants, potable water station and more.

We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks).
The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

Our land is out away from all the noise and lights. You can see the milky way and the stars at night are amazing. then to have the view of the Sangre de Christo mountain range is amazing to enjoy. The surrounding valley has lots to offer from the quant little towns and coffee shops to the home style meals at the restaurants. and all the hot springs are amazing.
Your site is overlooking the Sangre de Christo mountain range. The land is Alpine desert with sagebrush and ground cactus and incredible star gazing. There are 2 great hiking trails within a couple miles. There are 3 hot springs within 30 minutes. The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.
New for 2024, The flushable toilet and shower are now operational. The shower house is located in the center of the loop with sites 1,2,3 on the south side of the building. It has an on demand water heater, there is also a a flushable toilet located in the same space. An important note about the toilet, Do Not flush anything other than toilet paper please. DO NOT flush feminine hygiene products, napkins or hand wipes or anything other than toilet paper. These type of things plug and burn up the pump while pumping out the tank. This will cause the toilet to be unusable.
ATTENTION: THE SHOWER HOUSE AND TOILET WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN AND GETTING WINTERIZED OCTOBER 1ST UNTIL MAY 1ST.

Your glamping site “Hug a Bear” is romantically lit at night time and artistically decorated. The tent is waterproof and covered by a carport. The artwork (by Sabin, your host) covering the tent was exhibited at the McNichols Civic Center Building Downtown Denver a few years ago. Now it is enveloping your restful night under the starry sky of Colorado. The space offers you a coffee maker, a water kettle, water dispenser, BBQ and electricity. You will enjoy the delightful back side view of the famous Hogback mountain.
Just a few steps away from your campsite you will find our bath house with a clean portable toilet, hot shower and hand sink. You also will find a fridge inside, where you can keep your refreshments and your food fresh and cool. It is entirely made from reclaimed materials and it adds glamor and luxury to your glamping experience! To minimize our environmental impact, we use a greywater system. The liquid soap provided is a diluted, biodegradable formula that nourishes our garden as it drains. While it may feel lighter than conventional soap, rest assured it's gentle on both your skin and the environment.
We do our best to provide many of the comforts of a home for your "glamping" experience but make sure you are prepared to stay in the great outdoors which includes bugs and it is still camping. If you are afraid of bugs or occasional spiders this might not be for you. We cannot control the changes that both weather and the surrounding environment may cause. Although we provided an extra blanket and the tent has mosquito nets, we encourage bringing bug spray, warm clothes, flash lights, extra drinking water and other items you might need to make your stay pleasant. Please be aware of the weather and plan to dress accordingly. The bed is equipped with a heated mattress bed.
Conveniently located just 10 minutes away, Hampden West Laundromat & Dry Cleaners offers brand new machines for all your laundry needs. As a bonus, you can enjoy a delicious tea from the excellent Boba Tea Shop right next door while you wait.

Bliss Canyon features 4 accommodations: 2 Gypsy Wagon Campers and 2 spacious Tent Cabins and a boondocking RV site. Teardrop camper sleeps 2 as an addition to any accommodation.
The open-air, covered Kitchens have sinks, fresh, potable hot water, kitchenware, gas stove —pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc, BBQ with side burner, critter-resistant food safe, bear-proof trash can, and picnic table outside. We provide a convenient propane campfire for safety since our climate is dry and often windy. No candles or open flames please. Limited WIFI available.
There are easy trails on property along the lush stream (the original riverbed of the Middle Saint Vrain Stream), fishing or swimming in the pond (no lifeguard on duty), or challenging trails into Roosevelt National Forest from the property. (Ask Hiker Dot for guidance.) Several National Forest access points, where you can enjoy peaceful walks away from crowds, are a short drive.
New this year Bliss Camp is adding a 12' x 14' Glamping Tent Cabin.
Bliss Canyon is a spur off of breathtaking, picturesque South Saint Vrain Canyon. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon!
Dark Skies:
If you like to watch the stars and meteor showers, Bliss Canyon is blessed with dark skies with little light from the plains. Bring your telescopes and explore the Universe.
Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.)
Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details.
The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Also, Spirit Hound Distillery received the award for the #1, Best Whiskey in the World in 2022, hmmm, it might be worth a tasting!
Due to our popularity reservations often fill up quickly. We suggest you make your reservations in advance especially if you have a group to rent the entire camp. At times there are last minute cancelations which allows for last minute openings.

You can explore the 160 acres. The Ranch is a secluded, very hidden, and it is a quiet location. You cannot see the ranch from the roadway. And PLEASE DO NOT TRUST YOUR GPS, we are off 10 Rd and we will send you specific exact directions to find us. You will see incredible views of the Colorado National Monument and the Grand Mesa.
There are 3 full hook-up RV sites and 8 dry "WALK-IN" tent sites 8'X8' raised pad camping sites (the walk is roughly 200 feet). Duck space is for a place to park Walk around the seasonal pond, explore the property, hike a mile to the Mack Wash. This is a very private and secluded location with lots of space! Bring your own camping toilet or use our outhouse with a camping toilet inside. Because it's a working ranch, we prefer to familiarize you and your guests to the ranch and show you the route to the site as we have exposed irrigation ditches, and a pond. We prefer not to fish you out of the pond. LOL
LIMIITED SEWER If you need to dump grey or black from your RV tank, please help us keep our leach field from being saturated, If you need to dump grey or black water from your RV, we recommend the really nice rest area in Fruita. The Colorado Welcome Center Rest Area is off of I-70 at EXIT 19, which has a FREE dump station. We are on a leach field, no paper products including toilet paper into the sewer, all paper products, oils and grease must go into trash, please and thank you.
We must check you in, to familiarize you and your guests to the Ranch. Ater check-in you are our guests; you may come and go as you need. We respect your privacy, but if you need anything please contact us or go to the main house. Being a family ranch, we are always working and vigilant of our animals and the security of the Bear Family Ranch. A private and quiet retreat that we are happy and proud to share with you. We have a salon, by appointment only (April can do haircuts, color, manicures, pedicures, etc.)

San Luis Valley is a region in south-central Colorado with a small portion overlapping into New Mexico. The valley is approximately 122 miles long and 74 miles wide, making it the largest alpine valley in the world. It extends from the Continental Divide on the northwest rim into New Mexico on the south.
This campground sits close to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. I encourage binoculars or even a telescope to view wildlife and check out the Rockies and then the night sky views!
Looking to submerse yourself in nature? The Sangre de Cristo Range in Colorado contains the following 14ers: Blanca Peak, Challenger Point, Crestone Needle, Crestone Peak, Culebra Peak, Ellingwood Point, Humboldt Peak, Kit Carson Peak, Mount Lindsey, and Little Bear Peak.
Great Sand Dunes are visible from every site. With unlimited mountain views, beautiful starry night skies, come see the Milky Way, Eclipse, even Meteor showers!!!
History: this land was originally part of a large cattle ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years.
In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing!
My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all!
You will be surrounded by BLM land, BACA land, and Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Be sure to bring extra bug spray and protection needed against biting insects such as flies, gnats, and mosquitoes.
For those bringing your pets, they MUST be on a leash/lead at all times. While I do not have much cactus on my property, I do have an abundance of greasewood (Chico brush) which is very thorn-like if stepped on.
Accommodations for those with livestock or horses, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message.
Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes.

These is our 2nd year enjoying this campsite. This time we went swimming in the river.We had a lot of fun. We did miss the porta potty. Other than that, it was a fantastic time, beautiful night sky. Host is always responsive.Thank you for having us.

Backwoods site #4 was beautiful! We had a group with kids and they had so much fun exploring the woods, climbing the big rocks, and running through the field. It was fun to see the goats and alpacas roaming, and a great site for the sunrise. Debbie was really fast to respond to messages and helpful/knowledgeable before our stay. The portapotty onsite was super clean.

Directions we're clear and spot was easy to find. You can definitely hear the road but this is the most secluded site. We loved the spanning views of the sunrises and sunset. Site is fairly flat and has a sandy area to make camp away from the scrub brush. A beautiful slice of heaven!

We had such an awesome stay at Joe’s spot! My partner and I visited for my 40th birthday weekend in August, and we were lucky enough to have the entire place to ourselves.
After a long 8-hour drive, we didn’t arrive until around midnight. Joe was incredibly gracious and welcoming and had even set up a tent for us so all we had to do was throw down our mats and sleeping bags and settle in. The meteor shower was happening that night, so getting to lie out under the stars and catch some of it was an amazing way to start the weekend.
The next morning, Joe met us at the campsite and showed us how everything worked. His outdoor shower setup is seriously one of the coolest things about the property. He has water from the nearby creek diverted to provide running water for the outdoor kitchen, and he’s even MacGyvered a way to heat the creek water so you can take a hot outdoor shower. How cool is that?!
The covered outdoor kitchen was another great touch and made the perfect spot for morning coffee. We woke up to free-range cows mooing in the distance, and Joe told us about his rescue cow, Norma. As a vegetarian and vegan couple, we especially loved hearing her story.
The campsite itself is incredibly natural, quiet, and peaceful. There’s an awesome waterfall about a 15-minute walk away where you can even swim if you’re brave enough to handle the cold water! We set up our hammocks, relaxed, and really enjoyed being surrounded by nature.

Weekend Trip to Gondola Village at Holy Cross
As everyone else said, this was SO worth the hard hike! What an incredible experience, we can’t wait to go back
A few things to know:
DRIVING/PARKING:
as of Aug 2026, the GPS coordinates for the parking lot for Tacomas and 4Runners leads you up the 4x4 HCR on Google Maps, which is NOT doable, so make sure you follow the written directions provided and NOT Google Maps!!!!
HUT LOCATION:
We had a hard time locating the hut from the city - it is up the hill to the LEFT when you are facing the HC city. we could not see the huts at all because of the trees and were very unclear where to go and it took us a little while to find
Other things:
- Highly recommend Cleveland Lake day hike
- Easy access to water source when we went (slow trickle moreso than a stream but easy to get to)
- Don’t recommend relying on the solar generator/panels
- We hiked up the 4x4 road (by accident) and it was ~4.5 miles, ~2400 elevation gain. Constant uphill with tough rocky terrain
Don’t want to give all the fun away, but it was even better than we expected and highly recommend this experience! We can’t wait to go back

What a wonderful place to camp. Deb has a beautiful property with lots of great sites to camp that vary and there should be a perfect site for any kind of camping. We have stayed at hummingbird and Wild rose. Both were fantastic. We brought our 20ft camper and had no problem getting in and out. The sites are spaced out with lots of trees and shade so you can really find some peace and quiet in nature. The colorado trail connects for a nice hike. The Alpacas, goats, ponies and pups really make this a magical experience. We were visited by alpacas and ponies at our site, and if you walk the property, you are sure to see all the animals. Deb is a gracious host, and a lovely human. We are grateful to have spent some time here, and will definitely return next year. Thanks, Deb!!

16 ft rooftop tent
We really enjoyed our stay! A great place for digital nomads- it was such a treat being able to escape the sunny hot days into the cool coworking space. Bathrooms and water were clean, plus there is a microwave available in the coworking area. There is quite a bit of traffic noise from the road nearby but it gets quiet at night and naturally builds with the morning. The site was nice and the stars were bright ✨

Joe’s spot was a slice of heaven. We soaked in the creek twice a day, the site was expansive and the various sections added an exciting exploratory angle to the trip we didn’t expect, and we had everything we needed without it feeling too fancy. Still felt like camping but with added touches that made everything comfortable. 10/10 recommend.

Truly one of my favorite campgrounds I’ve stayed at!!! I absolutely loved pie rock. The scenery was BEAUTIFUL and don’t get me started on all the wildlife!!!! Completely exceeded my expectations. I can’t wait to be back!!

We loved staying on Tina’s land! Our spot was quiet, peaceful, and tucked away right by the water. Unfortunately, with how little rain there’s been, the water levels were pretty low, but it was still beautiful—and our pup had the best time splashing around! 🐾
We spent the afternoon walking along the sand, relaxing by the water, and watching a storm roll through. Such a peaceful and beautiful place to unwind. We’d definitely stay again!
