Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic views of the Four Corners region, and only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi. There are many attractions nearby, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks). The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

Our land is out away from all the noise and lights. You can see the milky way and the stars at night are amazing. then to have the view of the Sangre de Christo mountain range is amazing to enjoy. The surrounding valley has lots to offer from the quant little towns and coffee shops to the home style meals at the restaurants. and all the hot springs are amazing. Your site is overlooking the Sangre de Christo mountain range. The land is Alpine desert with sagebrush and ground cactus and incredible star gazing. There are 2 great hiking trails within a couple miles. There are 3 hot springs within 30 minutes. The Great sand dunes national park is within 1hr. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching. New for 2024, The flushable toilet and shower are now operational. The shower house is located in the center of the loop with sites 1,2,3 on the south side of the building. It has an on demand water heater, there is also a a flushable toilet located in the same space. An important note about the toilet, Do Not flush anything other than toilet paper please. DO NOT flush feminine hygiene products, napkins or hand wipes or anything other than toilet paper. These type of things plug and burn up the pump while pumping out the tank. This will cause the toilet to be unusable. ATTENTION: THE SHOWER HOUSE AND TOILET WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN AND GETTING WINTERIZED OCTOBER 1ST UNTIL MAY 1ST. No fireworks are permitted at any time.

Little Scraggy Camp is located on 95 acres of an historic 160-acre ranch that was homesteaded by our family in the 1890’s, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This totally off-grid ranch is surrounded by Pike National Forest, yet has easy access from a paved road. We offer several accommodations and glamping sites, as well as sites for moderate sized RVs, travel trailers, truck campers, vans, tents, and hammocks. Additionally, we have sites for small groups (up to 16 people) and large groups (35-200 people). NEW FOR 2025 - two separate, professionally designed 18-hole disc golf courses with PDGA regulation baskets, and a Pro Shop with a free 9-hole putting course, which is great for those who have never played disc golf and want to try it out, (we have free loaner discs). Our Hipcamp guests get a 10% discount on player fees, their children play free. Portable toilets are only a short walk away from sites. We also have several cornhole toss games set up. Little Scraggy Trailhead is 3.5 miles away, with easy access for biking, hiking, or horseback riding on the many other trails of the Buffalo Creek area. You might prefer rock climbing Little Scraggy or fishing the gold-medal waters of the South Platte River canyon below Cheesman Dam and the waters near Deckers. For a day trip, Wellington Lake is only 30 minutes away for no-wake water sports. Many people enjoy kayaking on the North Fork of the South Platte downstream from nearby Buffalo Creek. We provide a convenient propane campfire for safety since our climate is dry and often windy. No candles or open flames please. Limited WIFI available. There are easy trails on property along the lush stream (the original riverbed of the Middle Saint Vrain Stream), fishing or swimming in the pond (no lifeguard on duty), or challenging trails into Roosevelt National Forest from the property. (Ask Hiker Dot for guidance.) Several National Forest access points, where you can enjoy peaceful walks away from crowds, are a short drive. New this year Bliss Camp is adding a 12' x 14' Glamping Tent Cabin. Bliss Canyon is a spur off of breathtaking, picturesque South Saint Vrain Canyon. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon! Dark Skies: If you like to watch the stars and meteor showers, Bliss Canyon is blessed with dark skies with little light from the plains. Bring your telescopes and explore the Universe. Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.) Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details. The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Also, Spirit Hound Distillery received the award for the #1, Best Whiskey in the World in 2022, hmmm, it might be worth a tasting! Due to our popularity reservations often fill up quickly. We suggest you make your reservations in advance especially if you have a group to rent the entire camp. At times there are last minute cancelations which allows for last minute openings. Welcome to Camp Wilder! We are an off-the-beaten-path camp offering peace and solitude. The cabin is very special to my family and me. It was passed down as a mining claim from my grandmother who founded it in the '60s. The vision for the land was simply perfect. A small 10 x 10 cabin with the whole mountain to explore and whoever they wished to bring with them. The town of Nederland is 10 minutes down the road where you can fish at Baker Reservoir. Lots of fun little stores in town to keep the family busy. Wildlife is everywhere up by the cabin/campsite, always remember don't leave food lying around with lots of great things to look for around the magical town of Nederland. The cabin sleeps up to 8 with the futon downstairs being very comfortable and 3" foam upstairs in the loft for more sleeping area. Bring your sleeping bags to stay cozy at night. There are lanterns inside to light up your night with a wood stove to keep you warm at night. The ground around it is sloped so you may have a hard time setting up any tents around the cabin. The grocery store is in Nederland where you can buy food, Coleman green propane bottles, gallon jugs of water and wood. There is a 3 burner Coleman, stove to cook on with limited pots & pans as well as silverware. Road disclaimer, the road to the cabin is one lane dirt road. The drive up to the cabin is pretty good but the turn onto the single dirt road to the cabin has a slight dip, if you have a low-clearance car it may bottom out when you are turning so be careful. No Trailers. They will not be able to turn around once there. Recommend vehicles with AWD. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles. Park on the left. Hike down to the cabin between yellow stakes. We are @ 10,000 feet and it is a slight hike to the cabin. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles When leaving please make sure both door locks are locked, put the key in the lock box and mix the code for the next camper.

Directions we're clear and spot was easy to find. You can definitely hear the road but this is the most secluded site. We loved the spanning views of the sunrises and sunset. Site is fairly flat and has a sandy area to make camp away from the scrub brush. A beautiful slice of heaven!

Weekend Trip to Gondola Village at Holy Cross

As everyone else said, this was SO worth the hard hike! What an incredible experience, we can’t wait to go back A few things to know: DRIVING/PARKING: as of Aug 2026, the GPS coordinates for the parking lot for Tacomas and 4Runners leads you up the 4x4 HCR on Google Maps, which is NOT doable, so make sure you follow the written directions provided and NOT Google Maps!!!! HUT LOCATION: We had a hard time locating the hut from the city - it is up the hill to the LEFT when you are facing the HC city. we could not see the huts at all because of the trees and were very unclear where to go and it took us a little while to find Other things: - Highly recommend Cleveland Lake day hike - Easy access to water source when we went (slow trickle moreso than a stream but easy to get to) - Don’t recommend relying on the solar generator/panels - We hiked up the 4x4 road (by accident) and it was ~4.5 miles, ~2400 elevation gain. Weekend Trip to Neverland Camp Wilder

Good instructions to site! (Thanks!) Quiet neighbors in the site near the porta John. Rained all evening, but the clouds partly cleared after 2 am for a few Perseid meteors to peak through. Far enough from civilization to feel like we had escaped, but not a huge trek from Denver. Thanks for having us.

3 nights at Pleasant Valley RV Park

Great little serene spot off the highway with sizable camping sites for RV’s and tent camping. We spent a couple of nights here on a little in-state road trip before a festival and we really enjoyed our time here. One of the best parts that I hadn’t even considered was the distance from the highway. Most rv parks in this area are on the river, but that also means on the highway. Pleasant Valley is on the river but tucked away from the highway blocked by a couple of properties which significantly cuts the road noise. It feels like a little piece of paradise when you’re there at your spot on the river with the stars over head. Definitely a must stop if you’re in the area.

2 nights at Neverland Camp Wilder

Great rustic cabin with beautiful views and solitude! Lots of nice seating-particularly loved the bench swing. Not too far from Nederland but I definitely felt away. As described, small cabin with no electricity or running water but enough space to do yoga inside or on the deck. Bed/futon was lumpy and springy but fine with my sleep pad and sleeping bag on top. More sleep pads available up in the loft. Perfect for a solo trip to get away! I will be back!

The campsite is wonderful and close to the bath house. Very well maintained and clean. The views from the campsite are so wonderful! Close to the north rim of the National Park.

2 nights at A-Lodge Boulder

Great little setup here. Right off fourmile, easy trail access to betasso and close to busses, tent platform was clean and included tie in points for guylines or cord - bring some since you can’t stake down! Amenities were extremely welcome after time in the backcountry. Shout out to Nick at the front desk for being helpful and generally awesome.

28 nights at Pleasant Valley RV Park

Established campgrounds aren’t usually our thing. We typically stay off-grid but we absolutely loved our five-week stay here. The area is beautiful, with mountain views along the river, several seating areas, and plenty of trees for shade. We were also still able to use our Starlink without any issues. The road just beyond the campground entrance was great for running, biking, and walking. The campground itself is very clean and well maintained, and the staff are all incredibly kind and welcoming. They were even nice enough to give us a ride to the Rincon day-use area so we could float the river back to our campsite, which was a ton of fun. The location is excellent being close to Salida and Buena Vista, with Leadville not too much farther away. The outdoor recreation in this area is fantastic. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back!

Weekend Trip to Glen Isle Resort

Our friends and I camped in both the riverside and meadows campground during our visit here. Both areas are beautiful to camp in. The riverside is much cooler thanks to the nice breeze coming off the creek. The meadows is quieter since it’s away from the highway a little further. However, one of my favorite parts was getting to meet Mary Ruth! She was so incredible! She’s kind, passionate about this campground, and very hospitable. I will definitely be back!
