Come enjoy the beauty of West Marin on our flat, spacious 1-acre property with a seasonal creek and an expansive ancient Buckeye Tree. At night the "magical" tree is lit with hanging solar-lit mason jars and you can sit and relax in our Adirondack chairs. We offer two distinct sites: 1) a fully electrified, heated, SHED, equipped with wifi/refrigerator/microwave that can sleep two people, and 2) a campsite that can accommodate up to four people in a tent/RV/trailer/van/or car camping. Both spaces have their own picnic table and separate portable toilets. Guests from either site can enjoy lawn games such as bocce ball or corn hole as well as a full-size trampoline.   ** Please Note -- This is a family friendly space. You will not have exclusive use of the land; we are a family of four with a friendly dog (a small golden retriever named Orvis, who likes to greet everyone). We live on-site in a small house, about 80ft from the shed and about 80ft from the camping site. We are three miles from Samuel P. Taylor State Park, natural pools at the Inkwells, and miles of hiking. Our property is about 45 minutes from Marin County beaches (Stinson, Bolinas, Limantour), Tomales Bay, Hog Island Oysters, and Pt. Reyes National Seashore. In the opposite direction, we are three miles from Roy's Redwoods and seven miles from Nicasio Valley Cheese Company (plus a seasonal pumpkin patch). This is a wonderful location for relaxing on site or for being a hub for various day-trips in West Marin. Other local amenities include a coffee shop (w/a nice bathroom, 1-mile down the road), a market/deli/burrito shop, a farm stand with local produce, and an amazing Indian restaurant all within 2-miles from the site. A well-behaved dog can stay as well but can not be left unattended. Please note that while West Marin is mostly rural where many homes sit on large acres of land, we are still in a quiet neighborhood setting. No loud parties, no smoking, no loud voices after 9:00 PM.

Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. We listed the site for up to 12 campers but feel free to reach out if your group is bigger. The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward. 'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here. This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground. We have just renovated our old bar for use as a kitchen, tent pad or sitting area. Check out the new pictures to see what we've done! Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days. This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers. Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. We will always do our best to respect your space.

The Hidden Knoll -- 360 Degree View

Peaceful 5 acre private mountaintop (possibly an extinct volcanic cone) with true 360 degree views of 4,000 to 7,000 foot mountains all around in every direction. Each of our 7 sites and glamping yurts spaced apart on hilltop 5 acres has a different ever-changing view. The Hidden Knoll is kind of a hybrid between Bed and Breakfast lodging and DIY camping with the comforts and shared amenities you'd expect in a B and B. Your dog can go off leash while you are here, and we have an 8 x 15 foot fenced kennel with a sun deck perch for your pet. Guests appreciate being able to use our recently renovated indoor guest bathroom -- it has an extra large walk in stone tiled shower with two shower massage heads, and aromatherapy bath products by EO. (50 to 150 foot walk required, depending upon campsite.) We also have a solar outside shower with rain shower head and cold plunge pool in the Summer and are working on getting a hot tub ASAP this Winter. The Camp Kitchen in a charming Farmhouse themed shed has everything a camper might need -- electric tea kettle and complimentary local roast Taylor coffee and Numi herbal teas, and delicious carbon-filtered mineral water from our well. You can hang out, enjoy the view, barbecue and get work done with wifi under a huge 30 foot pine pergola, with patio heater in the Winter -- and ceiling fan and misters in Summer. (It also has a big screen TV and bluetooth sound system you can use with your Apple device--making this space ideal for off site retreats or workshops.) Our romantic luxury 200 square foot/5 meter Stout canvas "glamping" yurt on a huge private site with fire circle takes the hassle out of camping -- just show up and roll into a comfortable queen sized bed with flannel sheets, two duvets, fur rugs, and electric heated mattress pads with dual temperature controls. We just added a fireplace heater, rain fly, porch awning and thick coconut coir carpeting for Winter. We guarantee you will stay dry! CLOSE TO HOT SPRINGS, GOLF, WINERIES Just 5 miles from Harbin Hot Springs (available by reservation on a day pass), 1 mile from golf, 5 miles from several swimmable and fishable lakes, like Lake Burgundy and Bordeaux, and walking distance to Hidden Valley Lake. WARM DRY MICROCLIMATE Lake County has historically been a retreat from San Francisco's damp coastal fog. The mountain range and 4700 foot pass over Mt. St. Helena blocks the coastal fog and sea air, creating a dry, warm microclimate isolated from the Bay Area, geographically and culturally. We are astonished that we're usually above the frost and mist of the valley, with frequent sunny days in the 60s, even in December! The air is crystal clear on most days, (cleanest air in California) and due to the absence of street lights, stars are bright, guests say they see the Milky Way with their bare eyes on New Moon. My partner and I have spent years traveling Earth, and camping and traveling in vans -- the camping we offer here at the Hidden Knoll is exactly what we always dreamed of but never found on our journey. EV ACCESSIBLE If you have an EV, you will appreciate that most RVs can get here from San Francisco round trip without a tedious recharge--95 miles each way. There is an EV charging station at the Twin Pines Casino, as well as inexpensive gas here -- $1 a gallon less than you will find in the Bay Area. HAVE YOU DISCOVERED CALIFORNIA'S "SECRET WINE COUNTRY?" California's remote and little visited Lake County is somewhere in between the Wine Country, Sonoma County and the Mendocino Coast and only 2 hours North of the San Francisco Bay Area or West of Sacramento. The dry, sunny climate, on the 39th Parallel North, ideal for growing grapes, is similar to other beautiful grape growing climates at this latitude, like Crete, Ibiza, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sardinia, Turkey and Mongolia. MYSTIC VOLCANIC LANDSCAPE In the Pacific Ring of Fire, the landscape often reminds me of the Big Island of Hawaii, or upland Maui. The volcanic landscape has active geothermal and hot springs, and a potent spiritual power much like Hawaii, Sedona or Mt. Shasta. The red volcanic soils create a unique fertility and character and enable a wider variety of grapes than Napa Valley. Lake County has a long wine history that dates back to the 1850s when early settlers first began planting vineyards, which flourished in Lake County’s Mediterranean microclimates and soil rich in volcanic ash. In the 1870s, acres of vines were planted by visionaries such as Serranus C. Hastings, the founder of Hastings Law School. In 1888, acclaimed British actress Lillie Langtry purchased 4,190 acres in Guenoc Valley (five miles from us) which included vineyards that had been planted in 1854. But due to the isolation of the steep mountains, Lake County has remained isolated and iconoclastic, less concerned with the outside world. Many businesses here still only take cash. Many locals are third generation farmers. The food here is amazing -- including local wine, honey, pears, grass fed beef, pastured eggs, olive oil, saffron, microbrew beer, and bread. If cannabis is your thing -- there are legal dispensaries with some of the finest sun grown and organic on Earth. There is an Italian and Mexican heritage -- so you will find wood-fired pizza, Mexican food and markets, and locally baked French bread and pastries--as well as old fashioned American wood grilled barbecue and roadside smokehouses. There are few chain stores--most businesses are locally owned. EPICENTER OF CALIFORNIA'S NEW AGE According to legend, a network of seven points of spiritual power forms a ring around Harbin Hot Springs, giving people who tap into their arcane energies the power to dream, see visions, and reach “between the worlds.” This is a dormant volcanic region, and one of the most active geothermal regions on Earth. It's possible that this land is one of those points. And we invite you to decide for yourself. The red volcanic soil has an energy that feels clear yet still -- much like the power points and vortices in Sedona. The volcanic field, part of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire, contains seven volcanic vents from 10,000 to 2.5 million years old. The Xa-Ben-Na-Po Band of Pomo Indians inhabited the region as many as 12,000 years ago – 4,000 years before Egyptian civilization. In 1874, steamers began ferrying locals and tourists from town to town around Clearlake. Hotels and retreats were built at a feverish pace throughout the region, prospering even though the Clear Lake Railroad never made it to Lake County, keeping the region isolated. By the 1880s, the hills were dotted with luxurious resorts built around mineral springs. Wealthy visitors from San Francisco and celebrities frequented the resorts, traveling to “take the waters” and indulge in lavish parties at establishments such as Hoberg’s Resort. It is believed that the 1906 earthquake caused many of the hot springs to stop, slow down, or go underground because most springs changed around that time and in the years that followed, fires destroyed most of the resorts that remained. Due to abundant geothermal activity and deep springs of varying temperatures and mineral content, there remains a century long history of hot spring spas and yoga/meditation retreats here. A spiritual community grew around several intentional communities -- including Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation movement, at (now defunct) Hobergs Resort. There are still thousands of devotees here of Vipassana, Osho, and the guru Adidam's oldest Sanctuary, The Mountain Of Attention. Hare Krishna have recently restored Mandala Springs on Cobb Mountain. This area was integral to the birth of the Human Potential Movement, and the Human Awareness Institute, the invention of several styles of bodywork, including Harold Dull's underwater Watsu massage, the early roots of veganism and the "Blue Zone" diet in Angwin -- and even the early work of Dr. Timothy Leary at Harbin Hot Springs. We fell deeply in love with Lake County, the people and this land, and are excited to share it with you. WILDLIFE Due to abundant food sources for wildlife at the Hidden Knoll and in the surrounding wilderness we have soaring hawks, raven, black tail deer, rabbit, wild turkey, quail, tule elk, migrating bald eagle, egret, duck, osprey, bats, owl, hummingbirds, bees, lizards and butterflies. At sunrise, you hear roosters and goats from neighboring ranches in the distance. At night, when it's warm, symphonies of cicadas and crickets. MICROCLIMATE Autumn brings Fall colors, new green grass, and temperatures in the 60s in daytime, 40s at night. Winter has sunshine and very rarely snow. The Hidden Knoll is in a microclimate above the frost of the valley -- usually brilliant sunshine with vivid blue skies, but sometimes we get fog and mist and are in a cloud forest. Whaleback Ridge Camp and Tub

*See @whalebackranch on IG for updated photos and videos. Welcome to Whaleback Ridge, named after the ridgeline that my great-grandparents called "the Whaleback" to the Northern edge of our property. I grew up here, and my family is the 5th generation to work this land. We've recently made many fun improvements for our own use, including the camp, bathtub, shower, and trails - and we're excited to offer them. We do this for fun and a little extra income as a teacher (Dan) and artist (Mariah). Mariah is also the gardener; I have built most of the camp out of recycled redwood from my mom's old deck. The treehouse is a peaceful and safe relaxation haven; feel free to sleep up there. Please know that you use at your own risk, and mind the gaps in the metal guardrail and strap. Currently, we have a family who rents the main house, which shares the 'hilltop' with the Sunrise Camp and the Coral Cabin. The main house is also VERY NEAR the 'Shelf, more private campsite.' Our tenants are an active family and cars may come and go - which might be more disruptive, just a heads up! The Married Manzanitas and Shaded Oak sites are private. And besides cars coming and going sometimes, the family is very quiet and you will barely see them. In the MAIN CAMP, there are plenty of tables and chairs to help you decide which view is most beautiful, behind newly installed privacy shades between our house (for two of the campsites that share the hilltop with our house). In that camp is the main outdoor shower and bathtub which you fill with our mineral-rich well water (which is filtered). There is an outdoor kitchen space with lots of kitchen wares, spices, and cooking condiments, with dry storage for everything inside the yellow shed. Everything from the shed can go back and forth between being stored outside or in the shed itself. You have use of the gas grill and outside outlets to heat food/drink with hot pot and coffee fixins for the morning. There is also access to a SHARED mini-fridge and microwave in the shed if needed; just plug in the fridge. You're welcome to explore any parts of the property *north* of the driveway and hilltop, being considerate of other campers present at the 3 other campsites. We generally hang out on our deck or opposite side of the house south of the driveway and enjoy our own space. *For hiking, you can get to "The Whaleback" by walking down past the Coral Cabin and toilet, taking your FIRST left trail and following the main trails which will cover the edges of our 34 acres, about 30-45 min. hike to the top of the ridge. These trails do get overgrown, and it is wilderness - long pants and hiking boots required. *I may or may not be present on site, but I AM the main point of contact by text. If you need wifi to send a text, find the info sheets at the MAIN CAMP by the yellow shed, at the top of the hill for wifi information (which generally only works for hilltop campsites). In general please don't disturb the house residents unless there is an emergency and I don't respond quickly enough to your text. *Steer clear of the neighbors down the hill - the first house you see when you drive up the driveway. Please do not disturb them. *There is an outdoor compost toilet. You cover your biz with leaves and it starts breaking down and eliminates odor immediately. In general, please pee in a bush, or use the commode and dump it in the bushes if you prefer. We generally provide TP, but please bring a roll of toilet paper to be sure it is available and dry (due to morning mist, other campers, etc). *We have an old dog! She is a husky-akida mix (her name is "Beautiful") and she will bark at first. She makes friends quickly; feel free to meet her and show you're friendly, then ignore her and/or play with her! But please don't feed her, and watch your food (!). If you bring pets, they should be fine! If yours is at all questionable with new dogs, please just introduce them slowly at first, and then they should get along famously. Throwing a toy or stick should work, or if available, give them treats from the camp to leave you alone. We let them out in the morning and evening but try to keep them out of your space most of the time. *There are seven options to rent: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas, with sep. shower/toilet/camp ($49 /night); the (private lower) Married Manzanitas Safari Tent ($90/night); the hilltop Coral Cabin 10x10 ft. room ($90/night), the Hilltop Campsite ($49/night), the Shelf Campsite ($49/night), the Shaded Oak Campsite ($49/night with no shower), and Shaded Oak #2 RV only ($45/night with no shower or compost toilet; also not level, so requires leveling jacks for RVs -- cinderblocks and boards are provided to help with leveling). During busy weekends and holidays, the hilltop Coral Cabin and Sunrise Hilltop Campsite sometimes rent simultaneously, meaning you may share the kitchen facilities and tub/shower - can easily all use at different times. Same may happen with the Married Manzanitas campsite and furnished Safari Tent. *If this concerns, you may rent the premium of the two sites and request the other camper site be closed - even if that's the site you really want. If I can rent the premium site, I am happy to block the less expensive site if possible and not rented yet. Note: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas campsite AND Safari Tent share camp kitchen and other amenities, including the second 'throne' and second shower on the property. The Married Manzanitas is also the only site that does not accommodate an RV. *This is a beautiful, serene, and peaceful spot! We invite you to come contribute to that energy.

Finley Camp is nestled along Finley Creek in West Sonoma County. Campsites are located in open flats surrounded by Coast Doug Fir, Alder, and California Bay forests. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate, and access to a porta potty and hand washing station. The campsites are located past the end of the county road allowing for a quiet peaceful experience. Enjoy a quiet stroll on site, the surrounding communities of Bodega, Bodega Bay, Valley Ford, and Tomales, or just enjoy a quiet day in camp. Our sites are located approximately 20 minutes from Bodega Bay. The campsites are 2.5 miles from the coast and the weather can be unpredictable. As a general rule, it is very similar to that of San Francisco. All camp sites are situated in a valley that offers protection from the coastal winds. The have both morning and evening shade. Sites #2, #6, #7, and #11 have the most space, while sites #4, #7, #8, #9 and #11 offer the most privacy. Sites 1-3, any combination of 5-7, and 12-13 are well suited for groups. Other site groupings work well depending on the number of sites being reserved. Site #8 is unique in that it has a wood deck/platform for tents. There are also NO wood fires allowed at site #8 as it is under the tree canopy. A propane firepit is provided for your use. You can bring a 5 gallon propane tank from home, or a full one is available for rent on site. Beginning the weekend of August 11th, 2023 we will have beef available for purchase from calves raised exclusively on our ranch. This beef is 100% grass fed and finished and never given grain of any kind. We have various cuts available such as steaks, ground, roasts, ribs, or other various specialty cuts. All beef is cut and wrapped by a USDA certified butcher. It is raised in an organic manner from cows that freely roam on the pastures of the coastal hills we call home. For further information or for a price sheet, please inquire with the camp host. Well behaved dogs are welcome at Finley Camp. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times while on the property. There are no exceptions to this. Finley Camp is located on an active cattle ranch and directly adjacent to a neighboring ranch with cattle. Also be sure to check out our orchard tours. Come enjoy the beauty of West Marin on our flat, spacious 1-acre property with a seasonal creek and an expansive ancient Buckeye Tree. At night the "magical" tree is lit with hanging solar-lit mason jars and you can sit and relax in our Adirondack chairs. We offer two distinct sites: 1) a fully electrified, heated, SHED, equipped with wifi/refrigerator/microwave that can sleep two people, and 2) a campsite that can accommodate up to four people in a tent/RV/trailer/van/or car camping. Both spaces have their own picnic table and separate portable toilets. Guests from either site can enjoy lawn games such as bocce ball or corn hole as well as a full-size trampoline.   ** Please Note -- This is a family friendly space. You will not have exclusive use of the land; we are a family of four with a friendly dog (a small golden retriever named Orvis, who likes to greet everyone). We live on-site in a small house, about 80ft from the shed and about 80ft from the camping site. We are three miles from Samuel P. Taylor State Park, natural pools at the Inkwells, and miles of hiking. Our property is about 45 minutes from Marin County beaches (Stinson, Bolinas, Limantour), Tomales Bay, Hog Island Oysters, and Pt. Reyes National Seashore. In the opposite direction, we are three miles from Roy's Redwoods and seven miles from Nicasio Valley Cheese Company (plus a seasonal pumpkin patch). This is a wonderful location for relaxing on site or for being a hub for various day-trips in West Marin. Other local amenities include a coffee shop (w/a nice bathroom, 1-mile down the road), a market/deli/burrito shop, a farm stand with local produce, and an amazing Indian restaurant all within 2-miles from the site. A well-behaved dog can stay as well but can not be left unattended. Please note that while West Marin is mostly rural where many homes sit on large acres of land, we are still in a quiet neighborhood setting. No loud parties, no smoking, no loud voices after 9:00 PM.

The Hidden Knoll -- 360 Degree View

Peaceful 5 acre private mountaintop (possibly an extinct volcanic cone) with true 360 degree views of 4,000 to 7,000 foot mountains all around in every direction. Each of our 7 sites and glamping yurts spaced apart on hilltop 5 acres has an ever-changing view. Our views span from Mt. St. Helena in Napa Valley, East and Sunrise, to the twinkling lights of ranches and green grassy golf courses of Hidden Valley lake below to Mount Harbin the geysers erupting over Anderson Springs, Bottle Rock and Cobb Mountain, and the distant peak of Mt. Konocti rising above Clearlake. Pet friendly comfort camping with the comforts of home. The Hidden Knoll is kind of a hybrid between Bed and Breakfast lodging and DIY camping with the shared amenities you'd expect in a B and B. Your dog can go off leash while you are here, and we have an 8 x 15 foot fenced kennel with a sun deck perch for your pet. Just 5 miles from Harbin Hot Springs (available by reservation on a day pass), 1 mile from golf, 5 miles from several swimmable and fishable lakes, like Lake Burgundy and Bordeaux, and walking distance to Hidden Valley Lake. We are 5 miles from the up and coming Guenoc Valley wine appellation and several organic and biodynamic wineries and farm-to-table experiences to explore (usually with free tastings and tours and no hoity-toity Napa attitude.) TRUE 360 VIEW A rare 360 view on a knoll top -- you can see the Sunrise, Moon Rise and Sunset from various points on the land. LAKES EVERYWHERE There are 11 free places to launch a boat on nearby Clearlake. (You can rent a kayak). And several other small (clean enough to swim and fish in) lakes within 5 miles. WARM DRY MICROCLIMATE Lake County has historically been a retreat from San Francisco's damp coastal fog. The mountain range and 4700 foot pass over Mt. St. Helena blocks the coastal fog and sea air, creating a dry, warm microclimate isolated from the Bay Area, geographically and culturally. We are astonished that we're usually above the frost and mist of the valley, with frequent sunny days in the 60s, even in December! The air is crystal clear on most days, (cleanest air in California) and due to the absence of street lights, stars are bright, guests say they see the Milky Way with their bare eyes on New Moon. EV ACCESSIBLE If you have an EV, you will appreciate that most RVs can get here from San Francisco round trip without a tedious recharge--95 miles each way. There is an EV charging station at the Twin Pines Casino, as well as inexpensive gas here -- $1 a gallon less than you will find in the Bay Area. HAVE YOU DISCOVERED CALIFORNIA'S "SECRET WINE COUNTRY?" California's remote and little visited Lake County is somewhere in between the Wine Country, Sonoma County and the Mendocino Coast and only 2 hours North of the San Francisco Bay Area or West of Sacramento. The dry, sunny climate, on the 39th Parallel North, ideal for growing grapes, is similar to other beautiful grape growing climates at this latitude, like Crete, Ibiza, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sardinia, Turkey and Mongolia. MYSTIC VOLCANIC LANDSCAPE In the Pacific Ring of Fire, the landscape often reminds me of the Big Island of Hawaii, or upland Maui. The volcanic landscape has active geothermal and hot springs, and a potent spiritual power much like Hawaii, Sedona or Mt. Shasta. The red volcanic soils create a unique fertility and character and enable a wider variety of grapes than Napa Valley. Lake County has a long wine history that dates back to the 1850s when early settlers first began planting vineyards, which flourished in Lake County’s Mediterranean microclimates and soil rich in volcanic ash. In the 1870s, acres of vines were planted by visionaries such as Serranus C. Hastings, the founder of Hastings Law School. In 1888, acclaimed British actress Lillie Langtry purchased 4,190 acres in Guenoc Valley (five miles from us) which included vineyards that had been planted in 1854. But due to the isolation of the steep mountains, Lake County has remained isolated and iconoclastic, less concerned with the outside world. Many businesses here still only take cash. Many locals are third generation farmers. The food here is amazing -- including local wine, honey, pears, grass fed beef, pastured eggs, olive oil, saffron, microbrew beer, and bread. If cannabis is your thing -- there are legal dispensaries with some of the finest sun grown and organic on Earth. There is an Italian and Mexican heritage -- so you will find wood-fired pizza, Mexican food and markets, and locally baked French bread and pastries--as well as old fashioned American wood grilled barbecue and roadside smokehouses. There are few chain stores--most businesses are locally owned. EPICENTER OF CALIFORNIA'S NEW AGE According to legend, a network of seven points of spiritual power forms a ring around Harbin Hot Springs, giving people who tap into their arcane energies the power to dream, see visions, and reach “between the worlds.” This is a dormant volcanic region, and one of the most active geothermal regions on Earth. It's possible that this land is one of those points. And we invite you to decide for yourself. The red volcanic soil has an energy that feels clear yet still -- much like the power points and vortices in Sedona. The volcanic field, part of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire, contains seven volcanic vents from 10,000 to 2.5 million years old. The Xa-Ben-Na-Po Band of Pomo Indians inhabited the region as many as 12,000 years ago – 4,000 years before Egyptian civilization. In 1874, steamers began ferrying locals and tourists from town to town around Clearlake. Hotels and retreats were built at a feverish pace throughout the region, prospering even though the Clear Lake Railroad never made it to Lake County, keeping the region isolated. By the 1880s, the hills were dotted with luxurious resorts built around mineral springs. Wealthy visitors from San Francisco and celebrities frequented the resorts, traveling to “take the waters” and indulge in lavish parties at establishments such as Hoberg’s Resort. It is believed that the 1906 earthquake caused many of the hot springs to stop, slow down, or go underground because most springs changed around that time and in the years that followed, fires destroyed most of the resorts that remained. Due to abundant geothermal activity and deep springs of varying temperatures and mineral content, there remains a century long history of hot spring spas and yoga/meditation retreats here. A spiritual community grew around several intentional communities -- including Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation movement, at (now defunct) Hobergs Resort. There are still thousands of devotees here of Vipassana, Osho, and the guru Adidam's oldest Sanctuary, The Mountain Of Attention. Hare Krishna have recently restored Mandala Springs on Cobb Mountain. This area was integral to the birth of the Human Potential Movement, and the Human Awareness Institute, the invention of several styles of bodywork, including Harold Dull's underwater Watsu massage, the early roots of veganism and the "Blue Zone" diet in Angwin -- and even the early work of Dr. Timothy Leary at Harbin Hot Springs. We fell deeply in love with Lake County, the people and this land, and are excited to share it with you. A BIT RURAL, A BIT SUBURBAN We are on the grid with lights twinkling in the distance and nearby roads, restaurants and stores -- but are also on the edge of wilderness. At sunrise, you hear roosters and goats from neighboring ranches in the distance. At night, when it's warm, symphonies of cicadas and crickets. MICROCLIMATE Autumn brings Fall colors, new green grass, and temperatures in the 60s in daytime, 40s at night. Winter has sunshine and very rarely snow. The Hidden Knoll is in a microclimate above the frost of the valley -- usually brilliant sunshine with vivid blue skies, but sometimes we get fog and mist and are in a cloud forest. This is a wonderful location for relaxing on site or for being a hub for various day-trips in West Marin. Other local amenities include a coffee shop (w/a nice bathroom, 1-mile down the road), a market/deli/burrito shop, a farm stand with local produce, and an amazing Indian restaurant all within 2-miles from the site. A well-behaved dog can stay as well but can not be left unattended. *See @whalebackranch on IG for updated photos and videos. Welcome to Whaleback Ridge, named after the ridgeline that my great-grandparents called "the Whaleback" to the Northern edge of our property. I grew up here, and my family is the 5th generation to work this land. We've recently made many fun improvements for our own use, including the camp, bathtub, shower, and trails - and we're excited to offer them. We do this for fun and a little extra income as a teacher (Dan) and artist (Mariah). Mariah is also the gardener; I have built most of the camp out of recycled redwood from my mom's old deck. The treehouse is a peaceful and safe relaxation haven; feel free to sleep up there. Please know that you use at your own risk, and mind the gaps in the metal guardrail and strap. Currently, we have a family who rents the main house, which shares the 'hilltop' with the Sunrise Camp and the Coral Cabin. The main house is also VERY NEAR the 'Shelf, more private campsite.' Our tenants are an active family and cars may come and go - which might be more disruptive, just a heads up! The Married Manzanitas and Shaded Oak sites are private. And besides cars coming and going sometimes, the family is very quiet and you will barely see them. In the MAIN CAMP, there are plenty of tables and chairs to help you decide which view is most beautiful, behind newly installed privacy shades between our house (for two of the campsites that share the hilltop with our house). In that camp is the main outdoor shower and bathtub which you fill with our mineral-rich well water (which is filtered). There is an outdoor kitchen space with lots of kitchen wares, spices, and cooking condiments, with dry storage for everything inside the yellow shed. Everything from the shed can go back and forth between being stored outside or in the shed itself. You have use of the gas grill and outside outlets to heat food/drink with hot pot and coffee fixins for the morning. There is also access to a SHARED mini-fridge and microwave in the shed if needed; just plug in the fridge. You're welcome to explore any parts of the property *north* of the driveway and hilltop, being considerate of other campers present at the 3 other campsites. We generally hang out on our deck or opposite side of the house south of the driveway and enjoy our own space. *For hiking, you can get to "The Whaleback" by walking down past the Coral Cabin and toilet, taking your FIRST left trail and following the main trails which will cover the edges of our 34 acres, about 30-45 min. hike to the top of the ridge. These trails do get overgrown, and it is wilderness - long pants and hiking boots required. *I may or may not be present on site, but I AM the main point of contact by text. If you need wifi to send a text, find the info sheets at the MAIN CAMP by the yellow shed, at the top of the hill for wifi information (which generally only works for hilltop campsites). In general please don't disturb the house residents unless there is an emergency and I don't respond quickly enough to your text. *Steer clear of the neighbors down the hill - the first house you see when you drive up the driveway. Please do not disturb them. *There is an outdoor compost toilet. You cover your biz with leaves and it starts breaking down and eliminates odor immediately. In general, please pee in a bush, or use the commode and dump it in the bushes if you prefer. We generally provide TP, but please bring a roll of toilet paper to be sure it is available and dry (due to morning mist, other campers, etc). *We have an old dog! She is a husky-akida mix (her name is "Beautiful") and she will bark at first. She makes friends quickly; feel free to meet her and show you're friendly, then ignore her and/or play with her! But please don't feed her, and watch your food (!). If you bring pets, they should be fine! If yours is at all questionable with new dogs, please just introduce them slowly at first, and then they should get along famously. Throwing a toy or stick should work, or if available, give them treats from the camp to leave you alone. We let them out in the morning and evening but try to keep them out of your space most of the time. *There are seven options to rent: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas, with sep. shower/toilet/camp ($49 /night); the (private lower) Married Manzanitas Safari Tent ($90/night); the hilltop Coral Cabin 10x10 ft. room ($90/night), the Hilltop Campsite ($49/night), the Shelf Campsite ($49/night), the Shaded Oak Campsite ($49/night with no shower), and Shaded Oak #2 RV only ($45/night with no shower or compost toilet; also not level, so requires leveling jacks for RVs -- cinderblocks and boards are provided to help with leveling). During busy weekends and holidays, the hilltop Coral Cabin and Sunrise Hilltop Campsite sometimes rent simultaneously, meaning you may share the kitchen facilities and tub/shower - can easily all use at different times. Same may happen with the Married Manzanitas campsite and furnished Safari Tent. *If this concerns, you may rent the premium of the two sites and request the other camper site be closed - even if that's the site you really want. If I can rent the premium site, I am happy to block the less expensive site if possible and not rented yet. Note: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas campsite AND Safari Tent share camp kitchen and other amenities, including the second 'throne' and second shower on the property. The Married Manzanitas is also the only site that does not accommodate an RV. *This is a beautiful, serene, and peaceful spot! We invite you to come contribute to that energy.

Finley Camp is nestled along Finley Creek in West Sonoma County. Campsites are located in open flats surrounded by Coast Doug Fir, Alder, and California Bay forests. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate, and access to a porta potty and hand washing station. The campsites are located past the end of the county road allowing for a quiet peaceful experience. Enjoy a quiet stroll on site, the surrounding communities of Bodega, Bodega Bay, Valley Ford, and Tomales, or just enjoy a quiet day in camp. Our sites are located approximately 20 minutes from Bodega Bay. The campsites are 2.5 miles from the coast and the weather can be unpredictable. As a general rule, it is very similar to that of San Francisco. All camp sites are situated in a valley that offers protection from the coastal winds. The have both morning and evening shade. Sites #2, #6, #7, and #11 have the most space, while sites #4, #7, #8, #9 and #11 offer the most privacy. Sites 1-3, any combination of 5-7, and 12-13 are well suited for groups. Other site groupings work well depending on the number of sites being reserved. Site #8 is unique in that it has a wood deck/platform for tents. There are also NO wood fires allowed at site #8 as it is under the tree canopy. A propane firepit is provided for your use. You can bring a 5 gallon propane tank from home, or a full one is available for rent on site. Beginning the weekend of August 11th, 2023 we will have beef available for purchase from calves raised exclusively on our ranch. This beef is 100% grass fed and finished and never given grain of any kind. We have various cuts available such as steaks, ground, roasts, ribs, or other various specialty cuts. All beef is cut and wrapped by a USDA certified butcher. It is raised in an organic manner from cows that freely roam on the pastures of the coastal hills we call home. For further information or for a price sheet, please inquire with the camp host. Well behaved dogs are welcome at Finley Camp. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times while on the property. There are no exceptions to this. Finley Camp is located on an active cattle ranch and directly adjacent to a neighboring ranch with cattle. Also be sure to check out our orchard tours. The apples ripen from Late July thru late November. We'll take you to our family orchard where you can pick apples, pears, or blueberries in season and taste yummy treats out of our family garden.

A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. TRUE 360 VIEW A rare 360 view on a knoll top -- you can see the Sunrise, Moon Rise and Sunset from various points on the land. LAKES EVERYWHERE There are 11 free places to launch a boat on nearby Clearlake. (You can rent a kayak). And several other small (clean enough to swim and fish in) lakes within 5 miles. WARM DRY MICROCLIMATE Lake County has historically been a retreat from San Francisco's damp coastal fog. The mountain range and 4700 foot pass over Mt. St. Helena blocks the coastal fog and sea air, creating a dry, warm microclimate isolated from the Bay Area, geographically and culturally. We are astonished that we're usually above the frost and mist of the valley, with frequent sunny days in the 60s, even in December! The air is crystal clear on most days, (cleanest air in California) and due to the absence of street lights, stars are bright, guests say they see the Milky Way with their bare eyes on New Moon. EV ACCESSIBLE If you have an EV, you will appreciate that most RVs can get here from San Francisco round trip without a tedious recharge--95 miles each way. There is an EV charging station at the Twin Pines Casino, as well as inexpensive gas here -- $1 a gallon less than you will find in the Bay Area. HAVE YOU DISCOVERED CALIFORNIA'S "SECRET WINE COUNTRY?" California's remote and little visited Lake County is somewhere in between the Wine Country, Sonoma County and the Mendocino Coast and only 2 hours North of the San Francisco Bay Area or West of Sacramento. The dry, sunny climate, on the 39th Parallel North, ideal for growing grapes, is similar to other beautiful grape growing climates at this latitude, like Crete, Ibiza, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sardinia, Turkey and Mongolia. MYSTIC VOLCANIC LANDSCAPE In the Pacific Ring of Fire, the landscape often reminds me of the Big Island of Hawaii, or upland Maui. The volcanic landscape has active geothermal and hot springs, and a potent spiritual power much like Hawaii, Sedona or Mt. Shasta. The red volcanic soils create a unique fertility and character and enable a wider variety of grapes than Napa Valley. Lake County has a long wine history that dates back to the 1850s when early settlers first began planting vineyards, which flourished in Lake County’s Mediterranean microclimates and soil rich in volcanic ash. In the 1870s, acres of vines were planted by visionaries such as Serranus C. Hastings, the founder of Hastings Law School. In 1888, acclaimed British actress Lillie Langtry purchased 4,190 acres in Guenoc Valley (five miles from us) which included vineyards that had been planted in 1854. But due to the isolation of the steep mountains, Lake County has remained isolated and iconoclastic, less concerned with the outside world. Many businesses here still only take cash. Many locals are third generation farmers. The food here is amazing -- including local wine, honey, pears, grass fed beef, pastured eggs, olive oil, saffron, microbrew beer, and bread. If cannabis is your thing -- there are legal dispensaries with some of the finest sun grown and organic on Earth. There is an Italian and Mexican heritage -- so you will find wood-fired pizza, Mexican food and markets, and locally baked French bread and pastries--as well as old fashioned American wood grilled barbecue and roadside smokehouses. There are few chain stores--most businesses are locally owned. EPICENTER OF CALIFORNIA'S NEW AGE According to legend, a network of seven points of spiritual power forms a ring around Harbin Hot Springs, giving people who tap into their arcane energies the power to dream, see visions, and reach “between the worlds.” This is a dormant volcanic region, and one of the most active geothermal regions on Earth. It's possible that this land is one of those points. And we invite you to decide for yourself. The red volcanic soil has an energy that feels clear yet still -- much like the power points and vortices in Sedona. The volcanic field, part of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire, contains seven volcanic vents from 10,000 to 2.5 million years old. The Xa-Ben-Na-Po Band of Pomo Indians inhabited the region as many as 12,000 years ago – 4,000 years before Egyptian civilization. In 1874, steamers began ferrying locals and tourists from town to town around Clearlake. Hotels and retreats were built at a feverish pace throughout the region, prospering even though the Clear Lake Railroad never made it to Lake County, keeping the region isolated. By the 1880s, the hills were dotted with luxurious resorts built around mineral springs. Wealthy visitors from San Francisco and celebrities frequented the resorts, traveling to “take the waters” and indulge in lavish parties at establishments such as Hoberg’s Resort. It is believed that the 1906 earthquake caused many of the hot springs to stop, slow down, or go underground because most springs changed around that time and in the years that followed, fires destroyed most of the resorts that remained. Due to abundant geothermal activity and deep springs of varying temperatures and mineral content, there remains a century long history of hot spring spas and yoga/meditation retreats here. A spiritual community grew around several intentional communities -- including Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation movement, at (now defunct) Hobergs Resort. There are still thousands of devotees here of Vipassana, Osho, and the guru Adidam's oldest Sanctuary, The Mountain Of Attention. Hare Krishna have recently restored Mandala Springs on Cobb Mountain. This area was integral to the birth of the Human Potential Movement, and the Human Awareness Institute, the invention of several styles of bodywork, including Harold Dull's underwater Watsu massage, the early roots of veganism and the "Blue Zone" diet in Angwin -- and even the early work of Dr. Timothy Leary at Harbin Hot Springs. We fell deeply in love with Lake County, the people and this land, and are excited to share it with you. A BIT RURAL, A BIT SUBURBAN We are on the grid with lights twinkling in the distance and nearby roads, restaurants and stores -- but are also on the edge of wilderness. Due to abundant food sources for wildlife at the Hidden Knoll and in the surrounding wilderness we have soaring hawks, raven, black tail deer, rabbit, wild turkey, quail, tule elk, migrating bald eagle, egret, duck, osprey, bats, owl, hummingbirds, bees, lizards and butterflies. At sunrise, you hear roosters and goats from neighboring ranches in the distance. At night, when it's warm, symphonies of cicadas and crickets. MICROCLIMATE Autumn brings Fall colors, new green grass, and temperatures in the 60s in daytime, 40s at night. Winter has sunshine and very rarely snow. The Hidden Knoll is in a microclimate above the frost of the valley -- usually brilliant sunshine with vivid blue skies, but sometimes we get fog and mist and are in a cloud forest. Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. In the opposite direction, we are three miles from Roy's Redwoods and seven miles from Nicasio Valley Cheese Company (plus a seasonal pumpkin patch). This is a wonderful location for relaxing on site or for being a hub for various day-trips in West Marin. Other local amenities include a coffee shop (w/a nice bathroom, 1-mile down the road), a market/deli/burrito shop, a farm stand with local produce, and an amazing Indian restaurant all within 2-miles from the site. A well-behaved dog can stay as well but can not be left unattended. Please note that while West Marin is mostly rural where many homes sit on large acres of land, we are still in a quiet neighborhood setting. No loud parties, no smoking, no loud voices after 9:00 PM.

*See @whalebackranch on IG for updated photos and videos. Welcome to Whaleback Ridge, named after the ridgeline that my great-grandparents called "the Whaleback" to the Northern edge of our property. I grew up here, and my family is the 5th generation to work this land. We've recently made many fun improvements for our own use, including the camp, bathtub, shower, and trails - and we're excited to offer them. We do this for fun and a little extra income as a teacher (Dan) and artist (Mariah). Mariah is also the gardener; I have built most of the camp out of recycled redwood from my mom's old deck. The treehouse is a peaceful and safe relaxation haven; feel free to sleep up there. Please know that you use at your own risk, and mind the gaps in the metal guardrail and strap. Currently, we have a family who rents the main house, which shares the 'hilltop' with the Sunrise Camp and the Coral Cabin. The main house is also VERY NEAR the 'Shelf, more private campsite.' Our tenants are an active family and cars may come and go - which might be more disruptive, just a heads up! The Married Manzanitas and Shaded Oak sites are private. And besides cars coming and going sometimes, the family is very quiet and you will barely see them. In the MAIN CAMP, there are plenty of tables and chairs to help you decide which view is most beautiful, behind newly installed privacy shades between our house (for two of the campsites that share the hilltop with our house). In that camp is the main outdoor shower and bathtub which you fill with our mineral-rich well water (which is filtered). There is an outdoor kitchen space with lots of kitchen wares, spices, and cooking condiments, with dry storage for everything inside the yellow shed. Everything from the shed can go back and forth between being stored outside or in the shed itself. You have use of the gas grill and outside outlets to heat food/drink with hot pot and coffee fixins for the morning. There is also access to a SHARED mini-fridge and microwave in the shed if needed; just plug in the fridge. You're welcome to explore any parts of the property *north* of the driveway and hilltop, being considerate of other campers present at the 3 other campsites. We generally hang out on our deck or opposite side of the house south of the driveway and enjoy our own space. *For hiking, you can get to "The Whaleback" by walking down past the Coral Cabin and toilet, taking your FIRST left trail and following the main trails which will cover the edges of our 34 acres, about 30-45 min. hike to the top of the ridge. These trails do get overgrown, and it is wilderness - long pants and hiking boots required. *I may or may not be present on site, but I AM the main point of contact by text. If you need wifi to send a text, find the info sheets at the MAIN CAMP by the yellow shed, at the top of the hill for wifi information (which generally only works for hilltop campsites). In general please don't disturb the house residents unless there is an emergency and I don't respond quickly enough to your text. *Steer clear of the neighbors down the hill - the first house you see when you drive up the driveway. Please do not disturb them. *There is an outdoor compost toilet. You cover your biz with leaves and it starts breaking down and eliminates odor immediately. In general, please pee in a bush, or use the commode and dump it in the bushes if you prefer. We generally provide TP, but please bring a roll of toilet paper to be sure it is available and dry (due to morning mist, other campers, etc). *We have an old dog! She is a husky-akida mix (her name is "Beautiful") and she will bark at first. She makes friends quickly; feel free to meet her and show you're friendly, then ignore her and/or play with her! But please don't feed her, and watch your food (!). If you bring pets, they should be fine! If yours is at all questionable with new dogs, please just introduce them slowly at first, and then they should get along famously. Throwing a toy or stick should work, or if available, give them treats from the camp to leave you alone. We let them out in the morning and evening but try to keep them out of your space most of the time. *There are seven options to rent: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas, with sep. shower/toilet/camp ($49 /night); the (private lower) Married Manzanitas Safari Tent ($90/night); the hilltop Coral Cabin 10x10 ft. room ($90/night), the Hilltop Campsite ($49/night), the Shelf Campsite ($49/night), the Shaded Oak Campsite ($49/night with no shower), and Shaded Oak #2 RV only ($45/night with no shower or compost toilet; also not level, so requires leveling jacks for RVs -- cinderblocks and boards are provided to help with leveling). During busy weekends and holidays, the hilltop Coral Cabin and Sunrise Hilltop Campsite sometimes rent simultaneously, meaning you may share the kitchen facilities and tub/shower - can easily all use at different times. Same may happen with the Married Manzanitas campsite and furnished Safari Tent. *If this concerns, you may rent the premium of the two sites and request the other camper site be closed - even if that's the site you really want. If I can rent the premium site, I am happy to block the less expensive site if possible and not rented yet. Note: The (private lower) Married Manzanitas campsite AND Safari Tent share camp kitchen and other amenities, including the second 'throne' and second shower on the property. The Married Manzanitas is also the only site that does not accommodate an RV. *This is a beautiful, serene, and peaceful spot! We invite you to come contribute to that energy.

We live on-site in a small house, about 80ft from the shed and about 80ft from the camping site. We are three miles from Samuel P. Taylor State Park, natural pools at the Inkwells, and miles of hiking. Our property is about 45 minutes from Marin County beaches (Stinson, Bolinas, Limantour), Tomales Bay, Hog Island Oysters, and Pt. Reyes National Seashore. In the opposite direction, we are three miles from Roy's Redwoods and seven miles from Nicasio Valley Cheese Company (plus a seasonal pumpkin patch). This is a wonderful location for relaxing on site or for being a hub for various day-trips in West Marin. Other local amenities include a coffee shop (w/a nice bathroom, 1-mile down the road), a market/deli/burrito shop, a farm stand with local produce, and an amazing Indian restaurant all within 2-miles from the site. A well-behaved dog can stay as well but can not be left unattended. Please note that while West Marin is mostly rural where many homes sit on large acres of land, we are still in a quiet neighborhood setting. No loud parties, no smoking, no loud voices after 9:00 PM.

The Meadow Grove of Hands Full Farm

The Grove (5 total) campsites are located near the historic Narrow Gauge Railroad bed on a family owned working ranch in coastal Northern California. The camp sites are nestled in a pasture and grove of mixed Eucalyptus, willow and cypress trees. The sites are perfect for tents or camper vans, or small trailers. There are no hook-ups for RVs (the access to the camp sites also prohibits long vehicles). There is access to a composting camp toilet. The ranch itself is 300 acres of rolling hills pasture, with hilltop views of the Estero Americano valley. The Grove is home to many varieties of raptors and other birds-providing excellent bird watching. Seasonally there are blackberries to fill your containers, and some hiking. The sites are subject to some road noise, as we are right on Hwy 1. We are mere minutes from the quaint towns of Valley Ford, Tomales, and Dillon Beach, and a short drive from Bodega, Bodega Bay or Marshall, Pt. Reyes Station and Inverness. Nearby attractions include: Sonoma Coast beaches, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, coastal hiking trails, local farm-to-table eateries. Inland attractions include: redwoods, wine tasting, Russian River activities and so much more. Specifics about these campsites are: They each come with a picnic table (#1,#2, has a checkerboard painted on it-bring checkers or chess!)The grounds are a working ranch, so there is variations of the soil- some lumps and bumps and general natural state of a pasture v. a groomed lawn. There are certainly level places for tents and camper vans or trailers. The ranch borders Hwy 1, so there is some degree of road noise. Traffic usually dies down mid afternoon, and isn't too much of a disturbance. There can be however, some heavy weekend traffic during the day with car clubs and motorcycle riders enjoying the coastal highway.
