This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you.
You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. Centrally located between Carmel and the Heart of Big Sur. On a paved road with quick and easy access to Hwy 1. Adorable little cabin in the redwoods, with upstairs lofted sleeping area (double bed), sleeps 2 people. Kitchen, stove, mini fridge, and private bath. The stairs are very steep to the loft, with an open railing upstairs. Please review pics before booking. Adults only.
The larger main cabin on the property is rented separately.
Our cabin is in the Santa Lucia mountains and immersed in nature. Please be aware that wildlife is a part of the rugged Big Sur Coast and mountains. Wildlife encounters are something that is not out of the ordinary. From raccoons, skunks, deer, mountain lions, bats, mice, spiders, snakes, and all types of birds. We have exceeded measures to keep occurrences to a minimum and have monthly pest control services. BUT can't guarantee you will not be met with wildlife. ANY ENCOUNTERS DURING YOUR STAY WILL NOT BE ISSUED A REFUND. If you do not feel comfortable with the paragraph, then please do not book our cabins. Recommendations in Big Sur are Ventana Inn, Post Ranch, or something in Carmel or Monterey.
1 Dog allowed, pre-approved by owner, and $70fee. No aggressive breeds.
Under 50 lbs. Must be leashed, picked up after, not allowed on furniture, or left alone. Not allowed in the lofted sleeping area, due to the stairs and open railings. Not safe for animals! If you have a hairy dog, please keep the hair swept and under control. It is not fair for our cleaners to do de-fur the cabin. We allow dogs as a wonderful courtesy and don't want them abused.
There is NO cell reception in our area due to the mountain range. You lose reception once you leave Carmel and head south, or leave Big Sur and travel north to the property.
WIFI is available but can be intermittent due to the rural location. Text and wifi available, no cell reception, once logged into our internet. INTERNET IS NOT GUARANTEED DURING YOUR STAY.
At the beginning of our road, it has a "road closed" sign. You CAN get to our cabin. Our road is residential and a dead end. So there is no need to go past our cabin. All hiking and sightseeing is along Hwy 1.

This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.
We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you.
You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. Centrally located between Carmel and the Heart of Big Sur. On a paved road with quick and easy access to Hwy 1. Adorable little cabin in the redwoods, with upstairs lofted sleeping area (double bed), sleeps 2 people. Kitchen, stove, mini fridge, and private bath. Our cabin is in the Santa Lucia mountains and immersed in nature. Please be aware that wildlife is a part of the rugged Big Sur Coast and mountains. Wildlife encounters are something that is not out of the ordinary. From raccoons, skunks, deer, mountain lions, bats, mice, spiders, snakes, and all types of birds. We have exceeded measures to keep occurrences to a minimum and have monthly pest control services. BUT can't guarantee you will not be met with wildlife. ANY ENCOUNTERS DURING YOUR STAY WILL NOT BE ISSUED A REFUND. If you do not feel comfortable with the paragraph, then please do not book our cabins. Recommendations in Big Sur are Ventana Inn, Post Ranch, or something in Carmel or Monterey.

Under 50 lbs. Must be leashed, picked up after, not allowed on furniture, or left alone. Not allowed in the lofted sleeping area, due to the stairs and open railings. Not safe for animals! If you have a hairy dog, please keep the hair swept and under control. It is not fair for our cleaners to do de-fur the cabin. We allow dogs as a wonderful courtesy and don't want them abused.
There is NO cell reception in our area due to the mountain range. You lose reception once you leave Carmel and head south, or leave Big Sur and travel north to the property.
WIFI is available but can be intermittent due to the rural location. Text and wifi available, no cell reception, once logged into our internet. INTERNET IS NOT GUARANTEED DURING YOUR STAY.
At the beginning of our road, it has a "road closed" sign. You CAN get to our cabin. Our road is residential and a dead end. So there is no need to go past our cabin. All hiking and sightseeing is along Hwy 1.

Beautiful campsite, clean toilet with toilet paper and trash can! Shower has some personality to it but it’s great for a post-hike rinse. Veronica is very friendly and makes sure you feel safe and at home there!

Beautiful setting! And quiet despite the road nearby. Chirping frogs, rustling leaves, and a starry night. The goats are friendly, and the fire pit with fairy lights on the hill were a calm place to sit.
I admit the farm smell was a bit strong, but I got used to it. I think the ambiance outweighs the little discomfort of smell.

Absolutely loved my stay here. It was special waking up next to 4 baby goats, and having cute animals come to say hello. They are clearly loved and well taken care of. Falling asleep to the sound of owls, frogs, and coyotes was my favorite part.

Serene camping in a blue oak preserve. This is a great alternative to the crowds at the Pinnacles campground. It's a bit of a bumpy drive getting out there, but well worth it if you're looking for peace and quiet, a friendly host, beautiful scenery and a campfire under a sky full of stars.

Quiet, picturesque campsite near only two other sites. No cell service, so really nice to disconnect from daily life. Very basic toilet and shower facilities…but they get the job done. Host Veronica was very nice and helpful. About 45min drive from entrance to Pinnacles National Park.

Absolutely fantastic campsite. Gene was very accommodating, gave me a layout of all the places where we could camp, and even provided me with firewood and a lighter! Really cute kitchen area, fully furnished with a stove, kettle, pans, utensils and cutting knives , bowls and plates; anything you could ever need. The shower is in very good shape as well. I was very surprised at the quality of the campground. It was the gift that kept on giving. 10/10 recommend!

Saddle Mountain is BEAUTIFUL! I stayed in one of the glamping tents with some friends and we had a lovely time. The views are stunning, it's quiet and peaceful, and we loved having the grill and sauna and hangout areas too! Thank you, would definitely be back!

The tent camping at Ryan’s property is fantastic. My dog and I had an amazing few days and nights. The site itself is large and perfect for a small group with animals. There’s a beautiful creek flowing right alongside that we explored for hours. It was pretty hot during our stay so we were able to stay cool down in the shady areas with the hammock. The breeze through the creek and lower section of the site was just what we needed.
I never really heard anything from the road, so it felt very secluded which was great. The stargazing was a spectacle. Almost no light pollution, there was so much to see!!
10/10 recommend this spot

Veronica was so friendly and offered her availability if we needed anything. We loved the peace, beauty and non-human life about the place- the plants and animals were lively in Spring mode. Abundant stars, expansive sky and views, enough shade. The shower after our 2 lovely and dusty days in Carrizo Plain prior was heavenly. Coyotes yip-howling around the meadow where we camped were a treat for me. We greatly appreciate hearing Veronica's stories of respect and connection with different wildlife of the place.
