Our yurt and treehouse are located on Lago Lomita Vineyards with a view of the entire Monterey Bay. We've been hosting guests since 2015 and are looking forward to meeting you! Both our treehouse and yurt listings are unique experiences. They both are adjacent to the Tierra Madre Vineyard Block and have awesome views of the entire Monterey Bay/Pacific Ocean. We are located on 44 acres high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains but close to all the major beaches and Silicon Valley. Please be aware this is camping in nature, along with squirrels, spiders, falling leaves, etc. and nature is not always for everyone. There is a 45ft. ladder to climb to get into the treehouse. The view at sunset is spectacular. Featured on the first page of top Glamping destinations in California, in National Geographic's 50 States, 500 campgrounds. Both sites include a trunk of goodies: Complimentary trunk of goodies that is filled with muffins, mugs, creamer, sugar, coffee, croissants, cards, champagne & wine glasses & wine opener! We acquired the property in 1991, shortly after the Lexington Fire (1985) and Loma Prieta earthquake (1989). At that time, the entire property has degenerated into disrepair, and all the vineyards had been overwhelmed by the wilderness. In 2011, we started the herculean effort of clearing away the wilderness, resurrecting all the vineyards and renovating our home. In 2014, we started replanting the vineyards, and opened our tree house to visitors in 2015. Just like us, I think you will fall in love with this property, and enjoy every minute of your time here. Weekend Trip to The Secret Gardens by the Bay

The place is super special. The host were beyond wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed being here and will definitely be back. One thing to note specifically about the tree house... there are no windows coverings, so I felt really exposed when changing our using the toilet, which has just a pony wall for privacy. There is also road noise, which was noticeably when you're trying to sleep. I would stay in a different spot next time.

What an incredible spot! The treehouse is absolutely magical, nested high up in a beautiful, old tree, with beautiful views all around, and the lower cabin is gorgeous as well, with a perfect kitchen for making food and relaxing. Matt was so easy to communicate with and amazingly helpful with everything. It's definitely a world away and such a relaxing, gorgeous location. Thank you so much for an incredible stay!

Weekend Trip to Stunning Treehouse & Cabin

This treehouse is a splurge but also really unique architecture in a peaceful setting. The views from the treehouse are great. We saw turkey and deer wandering around. It's ~15min drive down beautiful Highway 1 from great food recommendations from the Host. The space includes both the treehouse with the bed and a separate cabin at the bottom that has the kitchen and bathroom. The Host was quick to respond and accommodating to make our trip work!

Matt & Ali are exceptional Hosts. Matt made sure everything was taken care of from beginning to end. Matt went above & beyond as a host. Meet & greet with Cres was very helpful & friendly. Valley views are truly breathtaking. LOVE the treehouse & cabin!! Amazing even in rain & fog. Just MAGICAL sunrises & sunsets!! Property is beautifully laid out. Very private. Tons of character & fascinating history. A must & totally worth every penny!! Definitely heavenly!!

Big Basin Redwoods

Big Basin Redwoods State Park is home to a 2,000-year-old Redwood named Mother of the Forest, which stands 300 feet tall. The protected groves of coast redwoods in Big Basin and neighboring Little Basin are among the state’s most magnificent—and resilient. Once recovered from wildfires and reopened to the public, these camps will again offer tent spots and cabins for rent.

Felton

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park covers 40 acres of old-growth redwood trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Henry Cowell boasts a popular swimming hole known as the Garden of Eden, as well as trails for hiking and horseback riding. Next door in Felton is Roaring Camp Railroads, where you can ride a steam locomotive through the forest.

New Brighton State Beach sits on a bluff surrounded by eucalyptus trees. In addition to tent sites, the campground has RV sites with hookups, but trailers looking for an RV park should check Seacliff State Beach. Sunset State Beach Campground, which lies further south along Monterey Bay, overlooks a quiet, uncrowded beach near Pajaro Dunes. Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA isn't far if you're looking for family camping with lots of amenities.

Follow Highway 1 around the bay all the way to Monterey, home to a state-of-the-art aquarium. En route, it’s worth a stop at Elkhorn Slough—part of the Moss Landing State Wildlife Area—where campers can rent a kayak and paddle among the sea otters.

When to go

Summertime in Santa Cruz attracts crowds, and the beaches and campsites tend to fill up. Book ahead and plan your trip well ahead of time, or explore during the off-season. Autumn and spring are typically temperate, while cooler months may require preparations for rain. From December to February, thousands of monarch butterflies overwinter in Monarch Grove, a natural preserve at Natural Bridges State Beach where you can visit tidepools year-round.

Some parks and forest trails may remain closed due to dangerous conditions or fire damage.
Dogs are allowed in some campsites, picnic areas, and select trails in California state parks.
Participate in the Crumb Clean Campaign to protect the marbled murrelet, an endangered seabird that nests in the forest canopy.
Surfboards and equipment, including wetsuits, can be rented at Cowell Beach on the Santa Cruz Wharf.
