It can get seasonably cold in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the winter. If visiting in the winter, rest assured we have everything covered to enjoy your stay. We have propane heaters for warmth and comfort. If the power goes out, we have a standby generator that will power up camp provided we are home to turn it on. We have woodstoves in the Owl's Nest and Eagle's Nest. We provide fire starters for the woodstoves; guests are responsible for bringing firewood to keep the woodstoves going or purcchasing it from us under "EXTRAS".

We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. The terrain is hilly with a few gopher holes. Staying on paths limits poison oak exposure. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property.

This 60 acre property is located approximately 3 miles east of San Gregorio Beach in the San Gregorio area. There is no home here, only a travel trailer on the Upper Meadow. It is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful throughout the seasons.
We are 5 minutes away from the San Gregorio General Store and cafe and 20 minutes from Alice's Restaurant. We have great cell coverage for Verizon, AT&T and Visible. Experience shows that T-Mobile does not work here and I don't know about the other internet providers.
There are four campsites, each with easy 4WD access. Two of the sites offer total isolation with amazing views while the third site, while in a nice setting, is more useful for a quick overnight stay with no views of the ocean or canyon. Please note that five easy-going cows (no bulls) reside on this property.
Dear winter and spring campers, please consider using "Sensible Weather" for your trip protection in the event of heavy rain or even high temperatures in the summer and fall. I have not used this insurance feature but the description makes it look worth considering, available when reserving on Hipcamp.

All tents include a mini fridge and a stove, ideal for light cooking, intimate fireside storytelling, and warmth during cool days.
We suggest you bring easy-to-prep food, drinks, warm clothes, hiking shoes, and a beanie, as it can get chilly without notice. Your designated parking space is a 6-minute walk from the campsite (downhill on arrival, then back uphill (steep) in the forest), so we recommend traveling light.
Our Farm, Animals & Presence
Fancy Camp shares the property with our small working farm, so you’re guaranteed to meet a few of our residents during your stay. You may also see us tending to the land and animals throughout the day—we always try to do so respectfully and as discreetly as possible.
Messy & Salma, two of our dogs, keep watch over the chickens and goats. If you hear them barking at night, they’re simply doing their job protecting the land and its animals. Our chickens also get an early start, so they may occasionally provide your natural morning alarm.
Our friendly goats roam the property during the day and may wander over for pets and nuzzles. They’re gentle and curious, but please don’t feed them or invite them inside your tent. The same goes for our cats and other dogs, no matter how convincing they may be!
If you ever need assistance with any of the animals, please reach out to us before 8:00 pm.
Recharge from the day with a hot shower. Grab your fresh towels from your tent and go to your outdoor allocated bathhouses, where you’ll find an indoor shower and well-appointed restrooms. They are nicely lit and stocked with bath products.

Mathilda is such a wonderful host. Her communication, attention to detail, generosity, and affection to our children quickly made our holiday weekend a lovely memory for all our families. She had a gift basket with a smores kit to welcome us into the kitchen Yurt.
The facilities are clean and beautiful. All of us collectively commented how warm and cozy and welcoming the entire space is. All the Yurts had a fireplace that made the experience that much more cozy and warm. The restroom with two showers and toilets were perfect, and didn't smell at all. The trails were pleasant to hike with our kids. Reaching the top of the property allowed us to see the Santa Cruz mountains, and was a great enough workout for the kids.
Double Bear was a delight for all four of our families when we stayed 3 days and 3 nights over labor day weekend. Since our group was 12, of which there were 7 adults, 4 kids (ages 4 to 5), and one infant, we rented out the entire space. Our kids loved the hammock, the fire pit to make smores, the hot tub to relax, and the kitchen yurt to do several arts and crafts. We even appreciated the TV, so we could have a kids movie night. If you are able to vacation with other families with kids around the same age, they will entertain themselves around the property, and even willingly go hiking, or create an imaginary stage play at the small theatre. We stayed inside Double Bear the entire holiday weekend.
Our kids can't wait to come back and visit Double Bear again!

We booked this campsite for one night to celebrate a birthday with a group of eight, and we had an amazing time! Mark and Karen are incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming. They clearly had put a lot of effort into making the experience feel special for us. We did the harvest cook & eat event and the group had a great time, would definitely recommend as a fun group activity. The entire stay exceeded our expectations. We’d definitely come back. 10/10!

I spent one night tent camping with my pup at this site and loved it. The site was spacious, private, peaceful and scenic. I especially loved all of the oak trees. I would definitely go back!

Had a great time camping at the retreat! Recommend it to those coming from the Bay Area for a weekend getaway :). Bring bug spray and positive hiking vibes, def checkout Loch Lomond! The drive on Love Creek Rd is a bit long but you should be able to find it by following the written instructions, we were able to use my car (2wd suv) to get up and things were all good (except for the last minute puncture I got after leaving sadly, thank the lord for Costcos warranty)

We had such a wonderful time at this campsite! A huge thank you to Mark and Karen for being so patient, kind, and accommodating throughout all of our planning. We were a large group, and we had been communicating and planning this trip for about a month. They were incredibly helpful in accommodating our needs, especially with the number of cars and tents we were bringing.
We also loved having the farm right there. Being able to pick fresh vegetables and cook with them was such a special experience! The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the peaceful, quiet surroundings made it the perfect place for our group to relax, bond, and spend hours talking and enjoying each other’s company.
We all loved the chickens and the rooster, the Wallace! We said hello to Wallace, and he was such a beautiful and smart guy. 😊
Thank you so much, Mark and Karen, for having us and for making our stay so special. We will come back again!

Weekend Trip to Kings Mountain Camp w/ ocean views
Tent camping here was the most magical combination of glamping and wilderness. ✨ From the moment we arrived, being surrounded by the sweetest, friendliest animals made it feel like our own little hidden world in the woods. So peaceful, homey, and safe.
Soaking in the hot tub surrounded by incredible views felt unreal, and ending the night under the trees and stars with the wood-burning stove keeping our tent warm and cozy made the whole experience unforgettable. It truly felt like we had escaped into a little fairytale for the weekend.
Thank you so much to Sana and William for being incredibly warm and welcoming and making this beautiful place feel like home. This is absolutely a must-see, must-do experience, and we can’t wait to come back. 🌲✨

We had an amazing time staying in the Flying Pig B&B! Kim was an amazing host, the breakfasts were delicious, s’mores were so fun, and the kids had a blast. The cabin was perfect. Seriously a perfect place for littles and animal lovers of all ages. Thank you, Kim!

Beautiful site, quiet and many thoughtful enhancements. The absolute highlight was the hot tub, super clean, just filled and hot and ready to go. Nice fire pit, fresh water and more. Daniel was super responsive, even when it was likely apparent to him that I didn’t fully read the email(s). I’ve been vanning for a few years throughout the west and this is one I’ll be back to. It’s almost too good to share

7 nights at Sacred Owl Land
I cannot recommend SOL more highly. My husband and I were in Monterey for car week and rather than stay in a hotel with the crowds, we opted for a quieter accommodation outside the city. We had the perfect mix of relaxation while being close enough to drive to many local activities, parks, etc. We are really grateful that we chose to stay here. The Sky View camp was super cute and included all of the basic amenities that we needed. And the views were outstanding - we were in awe of the misty fog that hung over the valley when we woke up and looked out the beautiful large windows in the mornings! The nighttime views were just as spectacular. Lastly, the hosts were spectacular! Very nice and offered many great recommendations. I would love to return and stay here again!
