Situated on top of a ridge with expansive redwood forest and coastal views, the Audrey Edna Cabin provides a completely private gathering place and destination for visitors with reservations. The cabin has spectacular views of forest, sky, ocean and the Butano ridgeline. It's a short hike to 8000+ acres of county parkland where you can hike, bike and ride horses (though please note, there are no facilities for horse boarding at the cabin.) The cabin is located at Alpine Ranch, a property adjacent to Sam McDonald County Park that was protected by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST).
Whether you are looking for an active experience or just want to relax in a peaceful, remote setting, there's something here for everyone.
This is a rustic hike-in cabin designed for a introductory pack-in experience. Bedding is not provided. It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource.
*A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Occasionally, we have last-minute public weekend reservation availability due to cancellations. The cabin is reservable up to 3 months in advance, on a rolling basis.

Property History:
At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people.
Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout.
The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.

Treat yourself to a quiet getaway for one at this cozy, clean and comfortable cabin on our rural farm, between two rivers, on Sherman Island. Located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area at the confluence of the San Joaquin River, Sacramento River, and the eastern terminus of San Francisco Bay, Sherman Island is known for its wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets, and its dark sky for stargazing opportunities.

Our property is .3 acres. It is on a semi rural street, private property in the midst of nature. The little cabin sits above a creek which flows and roars like a river in the winter. In the spring enjoy the beauty of the wild flowers and blossoming trees. The deer come in and out- it is difficult to maintain a vegetable garden! We are ten minutes from the Samuel P Taylor camp ground and 30 to 40 minutes from the coastal trails in the Point Reyes National sea shore. Nearby, hiking trails abound, There are trail maps in the cabin. Tomales bay is 30 minutes down the road.
Our property is home to a small grove of redwoods, one very large redwood, many fir trees and old ivy covered trees that line the creek. The fences on either side of the property crawl with wild grape vines and a large cherry tree stands next to the cabin. The bathroom is in the main house. This is a good home base for hiking, biking, resting and showering.

Hello all! If you're looking for some glamping with creature comforts, while just being 10 minutes away from restaurants. This is the place for you. We are a 5 acre property and home surrounded by tall redwood and oak trees. Very green and lots of shade. These are the amenities/facilities you will have free access to: Pool, Pool chairs and umbrellas, Deck area with sunset view, Trampolines, and hammocks.
There is not cooking allowed by or at any of the common areas, due to flies and critters. Cooking and eating is only allowed by your sites and not in any common areas: Hammocks, Trampolines, Pool Area, tables, sink, and deck please follow this rule because we want to prevent our shared areas to be fly and bug infested. We are still working on ridding the flies and cleaning. (please try to bring prepackaged food or something easy. If anything you can drive 10 minutes to nearby food and grocery). In the past we let people cook and eat around the pool but now our whole property is fly infested and I find scattered leftovers on the ground. Thanks for understanding.
THERE IS A 1-2 MINUTE HIKE TO THE CAMPSITES 1-5!
Poolside campsites are closer to the parking and are bigger.

Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. Choose between the campground, the cabin, or both! You can add the cabin to your campground stay under "extras'!
The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area.
Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward.
'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here.
This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground.
Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days.
This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers.
Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. We will always do our best to respect your space.

The cottage itself is unheated although there is a premium electric mattress pad with separate controls on the California King bed. That and the hot tub make for cozy sleeping on chilly winter nights

The space
An actual hidden cottage tucked into a space full of vegetable and flower gardens. A six-chicken coop also runs the length of one side of the yard. There's also a private patio area to relax and unwind. The cottage is cute and simple, with an attic-like staircase leading to the upstairs bedroom. Enjoy your privacy in this unique and quaint space.
P.S. This space may not be the best suited for elderly, disabled, or very young guests.
Guest access
The entire cottage is all yours, with a private entryway. We have an open patio area just outside the cottage with outdoor seating and tables. There is also a charcoal barbecue available upon request, as the hosts may be using it. It is a great spot to sit and unwind while watching and listening to the chickens, watching the sun set, and gazing. The garden area is shared with the hosts.
Other things to note
You, as our guest, always have privacy in the indoors of your space. The outside areas are mostly shared between my family, pets, and our guests, but the outdoor patio is all yours(we only access this when guests are present if we need to do some yard work). Enjoy yourselves, and be wary of doggies when pulling in the driveway!
It is an in-laws quarters type house and shares one wall with the main house of the property. The door that connects the homes is completely sealed off and inaccessible to both parties.
Please keep in mind that this is not a space suitable for very young, disabled, or elderly guests, due to the attic-like staircase mentioned above.

Spend your days exploring the lush forest, soaking up the sun, relaxing creekside, gathering around evening fires or drum circles, and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of dusk settling beneath the trees.
Just down the road, the charming town of Pescadero is California coastal perfection. You'll find gorgeous scenery, local food and drink, neat landmarks, beautiful places to hike and explore, fun galleries, and really, really good people. Weekend Trip to Sacred Owl Land
The SOL was the Memorial Day Weekend reset my best friend and I needed. Vaza was an amazing host and our only regret is not being able to talk to her more. We really enjoyed our stay in the cabana and the sunset views were amazing. The cabana was comfortable and so cute!! Vaza was easy to reach and communicate with, I definitely recommend staying here!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the sky view cabana! Vaza, our host, and her husband were nothing short of kind and generous. There were very responsive to all our questions and helped our trip feel seamless. The cabana itself was soothing and very immersive in nature. We were offered many amenities and our view every night/morning was beautiful. We would definitely recommend for a nice, relaxing getaway. Make sure to plan ahead for directions, as wifi can get spotty, but overall we are so grateful to have had such a great experience! 5/5

SOL is truly a special place for finding serenity in nature. It has everything you need for a getaway and offers both comfort and seclusion, which is hard to way. Vaza and the family are amazing hosts who are always willing to help while giving guests space. Will definitely come back to this place again.

It was amazing! We and our two girls had such a good time. The lamas and alpacas really made the day for the girls. The cabin is newly made and clean. The host was very nice, they made us very welcomed. The host cooked yummy eggs and gave the girls a ride, such a blast!

We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend getaway with our two pups at the Secret Gardens! We did a very last minute booking, and Yeyen was super accommodating with us for our later arrival as my partner had already been here before. We really appreciated her communication with us, too! Our cabin was nice cozy, and the overall space was so charming and beautiful! There were many nooks and crannies to explore, or just hang out; greenery and flowers decorated the grounds. The hosts did a great job in creating a community space for folks to gather and connect, if they choose, or if they want to get away from the city, slow down, and enjoy being in nature! We would love to come back and bring our other family and friends to enjoy this space together!
We also met their llamas and alpacas! What a sweet treat!

This site is absolutely magical! It is an extraordinarily crafted space that seamlessly and effortlessly combines the natural beauty of the area and every comfort you could want. The whole property was clean, cultivated, and obviously designed with love. The kitchen was an amazing indulgence and every detail was an inspiration for a million projects I will never do. It was a perfect balance for glamping because I had everything I needed but still felt outside. And the owners are spectacular! If you get a chance to catch a fireside chat with them you should count yourself lucky. Thank you so much for the glorious stay! We will be back.

This is a very special place. The feeling of comfort, quiet, and private surrounding nature is exactly what you’ll get coming here.
Inside:
My partner and I stayed in the sky view cabana, it was an absolute blessing to have a private shower, sink, hot water kettle, mini fridge (that actual gets cold) and a king size memory foam bed. A+ camp. There were towels provided but bring your own if you want to enjoy the hot tub!
Outside:
You have access to your own outside space, with two hammocks/ outside chairs, gas fire pit, and shared (with other sites): Propane grill on the deck, and outside toilet, a few yards away.
Place:
The property is breathtaking, the work Vaza and her family put into this place really is magical. There is a peace that drifts through here that heals. Make sure you check out the wellness center, the peace here and full tatami flooring, and absolute work of art. Say hi to the chickens, and maybe get lucky to see a dog or owls.
Thank you Vaza, for your great hospitality, your gift of community and healing, keep spreading love and positivity. This is somewhere we will return to in the future.

I cannot express the magesitc beauty of the hike to the cabin, from deep in the redwoods out into bright sunshiny meadows, with deer wild turkey to greet us! Rustic is not a word I would use to discribe this property. The house is modern, minimalist, and well kept. Fully stocked but without clutter; it was obviously intentionally designed and decorated. (The only thing "rustic" about the house was no shower, which is a minor issue with clean running water from the sink.) There are multiple space indoors and outdoors to gather and soak up the breath taking views, and the chitter of a variety of birds. Just 30 minutes drive through beautiful mountainside to get to the beach. This property is a GEM! The hosts were so gracious and helpful! We look forward to returning soon, and frequently!

The Secret Garden blew us away. Not only is this property stunning, but the hosts are wonderful, friendly, helpful, and down to earth. The woods and land around the property are magical and the trees and plants planted around are beautiful and aromatic. The structures are so unique, creative, and well-built. Chase and I loved every second here and will be back!
