Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

We camped with our toddler and had a great stay! The site is really private and surrounded by redwood trees, and it’s a ~15 minute drive to the beach and the Forest of Nisene Marks. The only downside is that there were a lot of mosquitos while we were there, although with bug spray and long sleeves we don’t seem to have gotten bit much.

We loved Fern Ridge Flats! Matt 's communication, attention to detail, and warmth were beyond terrific! The area was super clean, exactly as advertised, and super convenient for our 2 days of hiking in The Forest of Nisene Marks and one day at Wilder Ranch State Park. We will definitely be back. Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Great spot on private land with gorgeous views! Very secluded even though you are just behind the host's house. Are kids were just old enough (3.5 and 5.5) but any younger would have a hard time staying out of the poison oak and away from the steep hills. Matt was very thoughtful with the amenities that make this spot so easy and comfortable - toilet, spigot, gas fire pit. It's a very peaceful spot bursting with nature that is soothing on both the eyes and ears. So easy to get into town and have a beach day, then come back to camp in the redwoods.

3 nights at Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

I loved my stay at fern flats! I got the most amazing sleep, the birds provided beautiful music and it was absolutely quiet at night. I would definitely return. There was construction noise in the mornings though which Matt had zero control over. Hopefully the construction noise will be gone soon. The bottom line is that this place was great!

2 nights at Blackberry Farm

A gorgeous place to camp off the grid! We were not prepared for the sheer quality of the amenities, including what is basically a kitchen for basic camping meals and clean toilets and showering with running water. The property is beautiful and just down the road from town, and the hosts are friendly and gracious as well. We plan to return anytime!

Perfect for an overnight stay. Just enough privacy from the highway and very clean site. Loved seeing the horses get fed at dusk too.

Weekend Trip to Blackberry Farm

Such a special spot! A perfect grassy meadow tucked away on a farm next to the ocean. Nice cool breeze when we were there. Just down the street from small family owned grocery, restaurant, bar, hardware store and beach. Daughter and I surfed and hit the hot tub and shower afterwards. Beautiful area…dreamy. You just may be inspired to start a farm yourself after visiting. Flushing toilets decently good. Shower, powered by propane a little wonky but it works. You can make it super cold too if you’re into that. Overall pleasant stay and will definitely be back. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see the sheep, llama and ‘78 Westy

Weekend Trip to BANKS RANCH IN THE REDWOODS

This is a super convenient place to get away from it all...but also be 15 min away from Davenport and their convenience store and shops (as well as the coastal beaches). There is lots of space and sun in the meadow spot, and we walked past the creek spot on our hike down to the beautiful creek. The creek was a great place to be able to walk to during the hottest part of the day. Choose the creek site if you really want to camp and just be away from everything (the drive to it would be a mini adventure). Choose the meadow if you want to get in and out easily. It also has some great trees for hanging your hammocks. The whole experience was peaceful and the perfect weekend of camping. Obviously you have to appreciate a camp in/camp out experience (including your own poo), but Doug and Denise made it as easy and convenient as they can. Highly recommend having or renting from them the propane pit during the summer no-burn months.

Stayed for 1 night in a converted SUV with a bed in the back and it was stunning! It had a trash can, picnic table, and a toilet. Only downside is road to get to location is extremely bumpy/dusty so I wouldn’t recommend for low vehicles or big RVs. Would stay again though!

What a lovely stay. The property is quiet and beautiful, the amenities are ample, and our hosts were lovely. Tent sites are adjacent, so you will get to know your neighbors if you have any. When were were there in early June, there were generally 1-2 other parties present. It was so fun to see the sheep, chickens and even llama, and even better to have a fully stocked camp kitchen and running hot water. Highly recommend!

I really liked the tent camping and the sites were far apart. The area was suitable for Astrophotography although there was a bit of light glow from the town of Livermore. John made our stay really wonderful! The property is wide open and closer to town than we had imagined, but we still felt like we were far away from cares. The site was easy (though a walk to the bathroom!) There is a Buddhist Stupa on the land which made the stay even more magical. We will return! It was great for the party of 16!!

We had people swear that this is the best bed they ever slept in. The campground is located in a serene oak grove area of the property. Its a peaceful getaway with an abundance of bird varieties and occasional wild turkeys passing through. Take a stroll around our 5-acre property and catch a breathtaking sunset from the hillside. We're only 11 minutes away from Mount Madonna State Park and just 10 minutes from a local healthy grocery store and yoga studio. Grey Oaks is located on 20 acres of land, with hiking and mountain biking trails, a 12 foot deep in-ground swimming pool, multiple interesting and cool landscape features, hot water shower, and animals up by the house (1/4 mile from the campsites) that you can interact with during your stay here, too (8 hens, 2 pasture horses, 2 friendly dogs, and 1 awesome cat). At the campsites, we have picnic tables, fire pits, bbqs, ice chests, and more. A clean and fresh well water hand/dishwashing station, plus Alhambra Crystal Fresh drinking water, and two outhouses are conveniently located to the campsites. Eucalyptus, oak, and/or pine firewood is provided free for you during your stay with us. It really is a beautiful and wonderful property. There is wildlife, and it is private and peaceful. It is very dark at night and the view of the stars, moon, and planets is amazing. There is poison oak on the property so please be aware. We will show you what it looks like, so you can easily avoid it.

It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource. *A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Property History: At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people. Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout. The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.
