Summer is the perfect time to swim and lounge in the river. As the days heat up, the river begins to slow and warms up to a comfortable yet refreshing temperature. New beaches emerge, just waiting to be explored.
In late summer, early fall, there is a feeling of calm. The river slows significantly but still feels amazing to sit in. You can hear its gentle flow and soothing sound as it trickles over the rocks. This is a great time time to explore the river as it is mostly shallow with some swim holes.
Most of the time it is very quiet. There is another camp down stream owned by a wonderful family. They are here a couple times per week, and also rent their camp. You may hear them having fun and engaging in target practice. The river is a shared space but it is rare to see anyone else. Noise travels in the canyon so you may hear occasional barking or other vehicles. Hearing coyotes sing at night is very common. The rarely seen wildlife includes rattle snakes, bob cats, coyotes, fox, mountain lions and bears. Don't worry, our animal friends like to keep their distance. Hope to see you soon!

The land was purchased from the railroad in 1908 by Grandpa Coen when he immigrated to the USA after his service to the British Empire during WW1.
Grandpa established and maintained the vineyards during his life in California's Central Valley which he left to his daughter, Irene. She kept the farming tradition going with her husband, Al, and they expanded by purchasing surrounding land and planting more vines. This area was once inhabited by local native American Tribes. In the 1840's prospectors arrived in search of gold but none was found in the immediate area. Old Yosemite Base camp was along the route into Yosemite National Park prior to the construction of Highway 41. Horse and Carriage traveled along Old Yosemite Road from Mariposa and the entire golden state. Visitors from the world now pass through Oakhurst to Yosemite National Park along this route. Hipcampers, come pitch your tent at one of five Old Yosemite Base Camp (OYBC) drive in and walk in sites. OYBC offers over six acres of pine, oak, and bay trees, sprinkled around large granite features that remind you that Half Dome is not far away! Each unique site is equipped with a stone fire ring with cook top and a picnic table accommodating four person dining. Old Yosemite Base Camp is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset and stargaze next to a campfire after an adventurous day in the southern Yosemite region. Yosemite tent camping without all the crowds and tour buses is what you can expect. Backing up to the Sierra National Forest OYBC is conveniently located near HWY 41 just 14 miles from Yosemite’s south gate entrance. The region also offers a large amount of hiking trails where you can find swim holes, waterfalls giant sequoias, lakes, and rivers. Take 15-minute drive to Bass Lake and enjoy water sports and lake view dining.
OYBC offers five camp sites and all wheel drive is required to get to the top of camp. OYBC sites 1, 2, 3, are drive up sites and 4 & 5 are walk in sites that have a separate parking area. All wheel drive is still needed to get to this lot.

Camp on our small piece of paradise located near Yosemite. We are a family of 4 (Me and three kids) living on 5 acres of mountain land in the foothills of the Sierras complete with an outdoor shower and bath and also flowing (seasonal) stream that you can swim in. Feel free to wander around the property on a few of our trails or just chill by the water and enjoy the magic of the mountains.
Our property is about a 55 min drive to the Yosemite entrance. PLUS another 15 mins to the main attractions.
Dogs are more than welcome as ling as they are friendly.

Weekend Trip to Camp with Critters
As animal lovers my girlfriend and I loved our stay at critter camp! Ruth was a wonderful and accommodating host, and especially after our previous night camping in our own tent, having a great tent already beautifully set up was a load off our shoulders (not to mention having an actual showerhead to rinse off under, it made me seriously consider setting up my own outdoor shower at home).
As animal and especially dog lovers we both got a kick out of Ruth’s friendly canines stopping by for pets as we started settling in, and we also enjoyed seeing the cats on patrol and strolling around the pig, chicken/duck/turkey, and goat enclosures in the morning before we left. If we didn’t have to leave so soon it would have been great to have the full tour experience.
There’s a great view of the stars from Ruth’s hill, and although there were other guests there at the same time, the sites are much further apart than at your standard campsite. And the animals are far enough from the animal enclosures that there’s no “farm smell” at camp, but close enough to stroll over when you want to.
I will say the the roosters did as expected in the morning, but if your objective is beating the crowds at Yosemite, you really don’t even need to bother with setting an artificial alarm when you’ve got a natural one built right into the experience. If you get up when they do you’ve got a great chance of finding parking at Curry Village!
Ruth’s camp is on the short list for our next Yosemite trip!

Great stay! It exceeded our expectations and was just a quite 25 min drive to the Yosemite south entrance. We checked in after the office closed and everything was clearly outlined what to do and where to go, making it very easy. WiFi works all over the camp, kitchen clean, and all bathroom/showers clean.

There are so many great things! Even though this property isn’t very far from the city, it feels like you are in the middle of the forest!
The campground:
They have lots of nicely placed flat areas for tents and trailers. They have a nice very earthy kitchen area with clean running water (not potable) and a grill for you to use. There is a “bear box” for your trash and food. I have been to this property about 10 times and have never had an issue with a bear. There is a traditional camp fire pit and a large metal spherical fire pit that it’s safe for all season use and puts out a lot of heat.
The lake:
The lake has a nice sized floating dock perfect for fishing or swimming. There are several types of boats, kayaks available for use there. The lake is full of largemouth bass and bluegill perfect for the kids to catch all day long.
The wildlife:
There are black tail deer, grey squirrels, skunks, raccoons, doves, robins, woodpeckers, blue jays, ospreys, hawks, bald eagles, and bears. ( we had no issues with bears).
We had about 10 kids 13 and under and they just ran around the whole 3 days and had a great time never asking for a phone or anything. The wild flowers this time of year are amazing, lots of colors all around you. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back!

The campsite was clean and easily accessible to the bathroom, swimming pool, and other amenities. The campkeepers were friendly and maintained the site in good condition. The management was also very friendly.
I simply didn’t like some other campers who were extremely rude, even though it was their fault. Our site was conveniently located near the exit area, which had only one entrance and one exit. As my husband was backing up his car, a rude and racist man attempted to move him out of the way. The man was going in the wrong direction, towards his campsite. My husband was upset because we had come to relax and have fun, but this rude man ruined his enjoyment.
Overall, I would highly recommend Outdoorsy as one of the camping sites.

We were looking for something close to Yosemite and family friendly during our down time and Outsoorsy Yosemite delivered. It’s walkable to the Marina at Bass lake, though not walkable to public beaches at the lake. There were daily activities for kids and adults, including Bingo and Karaoke, the restrooms and pool and clubhouses all very clean. A food truck on site and other little shops and restaurant and a market also within walking distance near the marina. If we come back this way I’m certain we would stay again.

We had to make a last minute booking after our one year old had enough of the car, and RandCher Vineyards came through for us. They were incredibly responsive, the site was easy to find and navigate, and the electric hookup was simple. The covered concrete pad was a huge bonus, providing shade and no need to level.
We were so grateful for the comfortable overnight stay and will definitely recommend them to others. Looking forward to staying longer next time!

Wendy was super helpful with her explanation about everything. The cabin was extremely charming and the AC worked wonders! View was great, too, and we appreciated the sound of the nearby waterfall.
A private bathroom within eyeline of the cabin is being constructed, it wasn't ready yet during our stay, so we had to use the primary guest bathroom and shower which is on the main property down the winding hill. It's a fairly steep grade, so not a simple walk. Just something I wanted to call out for prospective guests who might have limited mobility, or who are thinking the guest restroom is only the distance of a standard backyard ADU away from the cabin. However, like I said, it was clear that progress was being made on a better solution for this. Overall we were happy with our stay and the opportunity to make great memories it afforded us!

Loved the area and campground! Felt a bit mislead on the beach access tho. No lake access at all from campground. We only had e-bikes. Also, we had to leave a day early and tried to get refunded but Hipcamp has no, or limited ways to do that… still waiting to hear from them. Outdoorsy cancelled it on their end….,

Little piece of Yosemite was absolutely spectacular! Christians land and whole set up is beautiful. It accommodates pretty much any need that you have minus the restroom if you are camping.
You are very close to Yosemite national Park. The sound of the river all night was just wonderful and even more wonderful to enjoy and take a swim. The outdoor shower and bathtub were a added bonus with the best view and super hot water.
There was also wonderful stargazing directly from our campsite. It was a nice private stay away from the other guest renting on the property. I would recommend this place to anyone and cannot wait to come back!

What a beautiful slice of heaven just 3 hours away from Los Angeles. From the mulberry trees, to the river access, and the very great hosts who made us feel very welcomed. You can tell they enjoy giving people access to adventure that you normally wouldn’t have access to. They had a fridge for us to us, a sink area to clean our dishes, a normal bathroom and a shower for a quick rinse.

Hudson and Wendy's place was so clean and convenient. It was amazing having a mini fridge, microwave, and AC in the unit. The shower and bathroom area was so clean and the water was warm. These made a huge difference especially coming back from long hikes in Yosemite. I highly recommend staying here and the view was terrific.

I love Christian’s land. There is 2 air BNB or something below. However the trees and bushes give good coverage and make it feel private. There is a water hose which is my favorite thing. There is hot shower and a tub outdoor but we did not end up going there as it is not in sight and there is a hose. Over all very private and nice camping spot.
