The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the our house (literally 200' away!). Our property became a pivotal point of fighting the fire in our community known as the “Ant Hill Army”.

This 10 acre property is located on the coastal ridge, often above the fog. You will be on the Pacific plate looking across to the North American plate, looking down on the San Andreas fault! The Fairy Forest

The Fairy Forest is 4 acres of redwood trees one mile from the magical city of Trinidad, CA. People have been camping in our meadow since the 1950's, and I'm happy to carry on the tradition, by opening it up to you. There was a fire on the property in 1901 which left the burnt out hollow stumps which you'll see by the shower. There's one old growth redwood on the property, behind the glampy tent, but everything else in roughly 120 years old. Every year we try to make your glamping experience better and better. This year, we've added an artisan picnic table, built on site, and some solar lights leading to the shower. Outdoor sink and cook space is next on our list! There used to be two campsites on our property, but we closed down one of them to give guests in the glampy tent exclusive usage of the outdoor shower and porta potty. We are also renting out our cabin this year, which has been our home for the last 3 years. There's 10 local beaches to explore in the area, great little restaurants and businesses, and countless trails- including Strawberry Rock, which is right down the street from us. We're 19 miles away from Orick, which is the gateway to Fern Canyon (make a reservation in advance) and all the trails with old growth redwoods. And we're 16 miles from Arcata, a vibrant, colorful and creative city that is home to the first farmer's market in California, which is quite the experience if you find yourself here on a Saturday. South Facing Ridge With Views

Surrounded by cooperate timberland,  it feels like there are no neighbors!  There is not a house in sight but the the ridge views seem to go on forever!  - There is a simple latrine at each site. A full bath house with a flush toilet and hot shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house. - Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item. More about the property: I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest. 10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village. We are marijuana friendly!! Thus, we have created more of an adult oriented atmosphere. one last note: We recently made separate listings for different sites. See campsite #1 for reviews.Guests love staying here "What a fantastic experience. I arrived to Cosmo’s super late after a long day going up the coast. It was a last minute book that morning, if I remember right - my campsite had fallen through. His directions were spot on, and very kindly he stayed up to take me to my site and help me get set up, even going so far as to light me a fire. His property was easily navigable in the dark, and my two wheel drive made it fine. We talked for a while - what a cool guy. He was able to give me recommendations from a friend of what to do during the next legs of my trip, which was great and really did make a difference for the rest of my week. I cooked my dinner and sat stunned looking at some of the best stargazing I’ve had in a long time.When I woke up I realized that I had been sleeping next to a mountainside view - this was site 3. Talk about the best surprise I’ve gotten in a while unzipping a tent. The clouds were gathered in the valley and as I ate breakfast I got to watch the sun slowly clear then out. It was unbelievable.Before I left, Cosmo let me use his indoor solar-heated shower and told me all about his projects to build his own home and roads and move towards a more sustainable future. Overall this is really the best of what I imagine hipcamp has to offer - kind property owners & unique individuals who care about their guests while also allowing them to have their own experience. If I’m ever near Mendocino I will gladly make the trip inland to stay at his property again."

Weekend Trip to Comptche Matrix @ Sunny-land

The tiny cabin is super cute and the bed is comfy. The view from the porch is amazing! We got lucky and got a clear night for the Geminid meteor shower and saw lots of shooting stars! I’m not always a “people person” but I loved meeting Sunny who is just the nicest! All the people and critters on Sunnyland are great! I will say, if you don’t like hearing kids at play or if you are afraid of super big, sweet dogs this may not be the place for you. Also, I couldn’t get the WiFi to work, but admittedly didn’t try too hard as there were better things to do than look at my phone! Oh, I also got a chance to look at the campsites and they are all very nice too. Next time we visit during nice weather I think we might try out the RidgeTop site!

Cabin 5 is the largest of our cabins with a queen and bunked twins. It’s also taller than the others.

The Redwood Retreat cabin was again an amazing stay for my friends and I. It was nice and cozy and the beds were nice and comfy. We were able to cook all different kinds of stuff and had a great time exploring more of the area.

The tent was nice and there was a heater. I liked having the comforts of a real bed (that was actually comfortable) and be in the middle of the redwoods and be still close to nature. I loved that it was so close to Trinidad and the freeway as-well. The shower was hard to get warm but it wasn't so bad.

1 night at South Facing Ridge With Views

The rustic cabin in the woods outside Mendocino was exactly the kind of peaceful getaway I was hoping for. The cabin itself is simple, cozy, and full of character—wood walls, a sturdy little wood burning stove that kept the space warm at night, and big windows with beautiful tree views in every direction. I also appreciated the fresh spring water on site—I was able to fill my camper easily, which was a huge plus. There are scenic views all around the property, and some fun, quirky touches too. Vintage buses, old motorcycles hanging in the trees, and other funky art pieces make wandering the land feel like a little adventure of its own. It’s a place with personality, and you can tell the host has put a lot of heart into it. Speaking of the host—super kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to share his land. He gave great recommendations and made me feel right at home without being intrusive. If you’re looking for a peaceful, off-the-grid-feeling stay with charm, creativity, and forest magic, this spot is perfect. I’d absolutely stay here again.

gorgeous spot and gorgeous tub. thank you andrea! it’s was extremely private and the tub leveled up our experience, now it will feel hard to go camping without one! :P if you’re going in the fall or winter, do NOT skip out on the heater add on. i figured since it was an insulated yurt we would be fine, but we were extremely cold when going to bed! luckily, the water was nice and hot all night in the tub, which was incredible. hope to come back here one day.

Sunny’s disposition, dogs, and property were the perfect refreshing getaway. You can’t get what you’re getting here from anywhere else, i will be back soon! There were a lot of things, also, that I didn’t realize she provided, like blankets and cooking utensils, even wood, for the stove inside the cabin. It’s still for the best to bring your own stuff in case you like to have specific stuff, and just to lessen the load on the host because she offers the space for such a good deal, but if you forget anything she was very generous and kind. She even used her leaf blower on the fire I was struggling to start in the fire pit near the cabin. The pit toilet was clean and not too hard to get to, with a very nice view, and there is a very good park for hiking 20 minutes away, a store 20 minutes in the opposite direction, and you can get to Mendocino or the Pygmy forest with another 20 minutes or so of driving. This would be a good place to stay if you want to visit the hot spring, too, as their camping is closed after November and their hotel is a little pricey. Safe, chill, and neat.

So beautiful, romantic, and equipped! It really has everything you could need while remaining pretty minimalist. The steamy outdoor shower on a cold morning was healing, and the privacy of the toilet was ideal (totally worth it to walk outside the cabin for a moment, and you’re still totally protected from rain and dirt on the couple of steps it takes to reach it.) Can’t wait to come back.

I just got back from a lovely weekend at Sunny’s cabin with my two kids, and it was exactly what we needed. The cabin is tucked into the redwoods, quiet and peaceful, and it really felt like a little forest adventure for the kids. Our favorite part was sitting by the fire at night, talking and relaxing together. Sunny was a wonderful host. She was warm, responsive, and helpful whenever I had a question, but also gave us plenty of privacy. Her two friendly dogs were a huge hit with the kids and made the place feel even more welcoming. I left feeling rested, my kids had a great time, and I would happily come back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, nature-filled getaway.

Our 120 remote acres are adjacent to Shasta Trinity National Forest in the beautiful Cascade Range between Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. We're 54 miles from Redding off of 299E, (about 1-1/2 hour drive). DO NOT TAKE ROAD 11 FROM THE NORTH, IT IS CLOSED! If you are looking for a unique experience and up for rustic accommodations among goats, chickens, a permaculture food forest with a few off-grid perks, we welcome you to join us in our mountainous, wilderness paradise! Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings). Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park. We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.

Stax & Summer’s Off-Grid Haven Fourteen acres of raw land in the foothills near Brownsville/Oregon House — solar well, oak and manzanita trees, and a bunch of mellow animals. I’ve lived here for over a decade, mostly off-grid, and the land is still unfolding. There are a couple of donkeys, some goats, a small flock of chickens and quail, two super-chill dogs (Stax and Summer Grass), and a cat named Mike. All friendly, all part of the rhythm. If you’re cool with animals, you’ll love it. If you’re not, this probably isn’t the spot for you. You can park your trailer, post up in your rig, or camp under the trees. Bring what you need and make yourself at home. There’s space to be left alone, make some art, dig in the dirt, fix a few things, or just sit with it. If you’re solid and grounded, we can talk trade — especially if I’m off the property and need someone to keep an eye on the crew. It could turn into something longer, or it could just be a stop along your way. The water is good, and solar runs the well. There are no power plugs unless you’ve got your own setup. Cell service is spotty unless you know where to stand. No tweakers. No drama — and not the fake kind.

The cabin is on our 8 acre property, only about 7 minutes to the historic village of Mendocino. Beaches and trails close by and waiting for you to explore! Hear the ocean waves crashing in the distance, if you listen closely you may even hear the seals chatting. In the spring see the tall brilliant pink rhododendrons bloom. Star gaze at night and listen to the trees talking through the costal breeze while keeping warm by the fire pit, and stay cozy inside the cabin by the mini wood burning stove. Use the tea kettle to brew up a delicious drink to sip. All while making memories to last! WILDLIFE: This is an active bear area. We suggest a bear horn and/or spray. It’s important to keep food locked away and never leave any outside at night. The area is also known to occasionally have mountain lion sightings. Other wildlife in area: foxes, bobcats, raccoons, skunks and possums to name a few.
