Forager Hill Farm on Hayward Lake

Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest. Lake access is private (people could hike in or canoe up, but normally we have it to ourselves) and the lake itself is a great spot for wildlife watching (beavers, deer, bats, fish, bears, owls, eagles, osprey etc.). The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year.

Valhalla Pines Campground

This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). There is a particularly valued native storyteller here that can also provide a walking tour to a nearby village site with a full scale replica of an aboriginal kekuli (earth house). Please call ahead for recommendations on booking guides or storytellers. You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole community center also has events nearby.

The Portal is 18 feet long and 8 feet wide and is your very own private space. Featuring a beautiful deck for relaxation, reading, star gazing, yoga, or alfresco dining, with the interior offering a queen bed, sofa, and artisanal water - Oh so cozy and romantic. There is a fancy new outhouse that flushes water and is equipped with a sink. This space is best suited for a single, a couple, and possibly a fur baby and/or little one. We are located on a quiet residential street 20 minutes from Port Alberni and en route to Tofino or Ucluelet. We have walking and mountain biking trails minutes from the house. The Portal has limited internet and spotty phone service. There is an outlet for charging, etc. There is no fridge, but we can provide a cooler on request. Private parking is on-site. We can provide a camp stove if required. Please bring your own white gas. Outside food options include the "The Fish & Duck Pub" which is just a short walk away. Call Doordash to deliver a meal from one of our local restaurants or bring a picnic to enjoy. If you are bringing a fur baby, please let us know. It must be on a leash at all times. Please bring your fur baby's favorite blanket or bed to sleep on. We can also provide a comfy hound bed in the room at your request. We kindly ask that you keep your fur baby off the furniture and bed. Let's be real...when booking a lakefront vacation in BC it's all about the lake and Timothy Lake will not disappoint. Timothy Lake is the perfect size, large enough to be unrestricted and offer great fishing, but small enough where you aren't always battling waves. As you venture from the shoreline you'll eventually loose site of the resort and soon find a public sandy beach, an uninhabited island, and a water channel connecting into Dempsey Lake. We've never heard that Dempsey is a great fishing lake, but it is a cool journey by paddle or small boat, and shows just how awesome the natural world is.....but watch for underwater branches throughout the channel cause a wrecked prop can make a good mad a bad mood - really quick. Located off the beaten track, Timothy Lake is seldom used by weekend warriors and is never too busy - making it great for swimming, water skiing, fishing or just floating around in one of those giant inflatable flamingo's...... if that's your thing. **There is a pet fee at $55/ per pet, you can add this to your booking at checkout.
