There is a zoo in nearby Ft. Chiswell. Each site has full hook ups. No tent sites at the present time. Area grocery stores are located about 30 minutes away in Wytheville, Pulaski and Hillsville. Over the years cutting roads has been a hobby that has resulted in miles of cleared pathways throughout the property that are perfect for hiking, running, cycling and ATV’s. The property includes a stream, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, and see the occasional turkey, bear, and Bigfoot. We are new to hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We only allow 3 groups at a time on the property to ensure that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others. Things to watch out for other than the wildlife mentioned above the two main concerns in this part of Virginia are deer ticks and poison ivy.

IRON Peak Ranch

We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on the creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. In Short, it is lovely and we hope you enjoy it.

Country Meadows

Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these are under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette.The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina harbor a rich heritage and culture. First, there was the Cherokee tribe of Native Americans. Then, European settlers came to the area. These mountains and foothills continue to have living traditions of craft, music, and agriculture.

Hiking and nature walks are everywhere. More than 80 miles of the Appalachian Trail goes through the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.
