Got a serious case of wanderlust? We've got good news. Although a major city, Tacoma is close to several epic outdoor destinations and dreamy camping spots, perfect for your next camping trip. From state parks and national forests, to island beaches, stunning meadows and lush forests, Tacoma camping could be the adventure you've been dreaming of. Along the bay just north of Tacoma you'll find Dash Point State Park and Saltwater State Park, making it easy to find beachfront campgrounds just a few miles from the city. Or head east into the mountains for camping on private land, and some great hiking if you're willing to drive a little ways out of Tacoma. If you're craving the full mountain experience, Mt. Rainier is just an hour and a half away. And to the west, a world of island camping awaits. Ferry over to Joemma Beach or Penrose Point State Park for beautiful coastal camping with a dose of peace and seclusion that can't be found on the mainland. Put your feet in the sand, breathe in the fresh salty air, and fall asleep to the soothing ocean waves. Once you find 'your spot' near Tacoma, you'll never want to leave.
