Get a taste of history and relive the journey of the English Colonists’ first landing in America in 1607. First Landing State Park has played an amazing part in our country’s history, and its waterways have been navigated by Native American canoes, 20th century schooners, and modern cargo ships. Supposedly, Blackbeard himself hid in park’s narrows to avoid capture.

Virginia’s most visited state park is a little slice of paradise in the urban center of Virginia Beach. Here you’ll find sprawling cypress swamps, a maritime forest, deep lagoons, and rare and unusual plants. Hike the 20 miles of varied trails, and relax on 1.5 miles of sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay. While most of the trails and recreation facilities are inland, the campground is located right on the bay, for incredible views and a cool sea breeze from the comfort of your sleeping bag.
