We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

Share space on our small mountain homestead in the Appalachians. Stay in a tiny cabin with deck space and outdoor food prep area. Twin over Futon bunk bed(or a guest could sleep on the porch sofa which is a futon, if the weather is good. Drinking water provided if requested. Chicken, dogs and cats on the farm. Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

With views over the ocean of trees and town below, we offer three private and very comfy Glamping Cabins. Each of them provides a terrific place to experience the outdoors in comfort. We make it easy and fun to experience nature. Here, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas, watch the spectacular sunsets, chase fireflies, make a campfire, search for the Milky Way, and then sleep easy in your own queen-sized bed on this historic property. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville are within 30 minutes. It’s just an hour to Richmond or Harrisonburg and less than two to Washington, DC, or 3 to We are very COVID-conscious! I decided last minute to get out for a quick overnight trip and do some camping/fishing. Found this place not too far from me. It’s wintertime so I had the place to myself, except a bunch of Beavers and some Deer. Everything was as described, I think even during the warmer months there is enough separation between sites that you would have a good amount of privacy while still being right near the water. There are kayaks for use and lots of good fishing spots. The host was cool and helpful. Highly recommend.

We had a great stay! The host Dave was an incredibly fast responder and very helpful! We stayed in the winter so it was quite chilly, just bring lots of blankets! Night one of our arrival it had just snowed, we had a little trouble getting up the hill, luckily we have AWD. I think without snow you could make it up the hill even without AWD. We would certainly stay again or recommend to another!

Private, quiet stream-front site. Our lab loved frolicking in the stream. Site was level and well-sized for my truck and camping trailer. In the summer, it would get a lot of sun over the southern ridge opposite the river, so solar collection would work. In November, sun was in short supply, and the sun angle was pretty low, so we just barely eked by. We bring our own bathroom facilities(Cleanwaste GO), but other campers who don’t want to be digging cat holes should be aware that there are no bathroom facilities if they are staying on site for a long time. Convenient to Old Rag for day hikers, and Montpelier for history buffs. No trouble with raccoons etc, but we kept our food secured just in case. Nice steel fire pit, which made cooking over the fire a breeze.

Shireton was the perfect cozy weekend getaway! The handmade touches, props, and themed details made everything feel so enchanted and magical. I also loved that the front door opened right into the sunset (the door itself is gorgeous). We had so much fun doing archery with the on-site bow and arrows, relaxing by the fire, and enjoying the copper tub/shower. Truly a charming, whimsical stay :)

We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm. Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request. There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit. This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you. There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We WILL return!

The place is amazing! Me my wife and our fur baby loved everything about the place. It has a rustic vibe surrounded by farm animals and wild life! The only thing I would have changed was we didn’t stay long enough! The fresh eggs were amazing to have for breakfast, wish I would have got more than just a dozen. And Rodney, the host was such great guy. You have your own little private spot to just sit back and enjoy. We will definitely be coming back in the short future to see the horses, goats, and other animals again.

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property. The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Go by a local store and buy night crawlers,worms and a pack of 2/0 hooks and you will catch something . Firewood available per request and delivered for$30.00 a load. Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs. When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting. Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river. Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer. Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish. This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond. Come, enjoy and make some memories! Children 10 and under are free On the other side of the river you might hear a train passing by at different times, both, day and night. Safety Notice: Not accessible by boat, canoe, or kayak when the James River level is 6 feet or higher at Scottsville. At 7.5 - 8 feet, there is not much beach to play on and the river is too dangerous to navigate. Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately.  Campsite W ~  Tent footprints: 1) 10' x 12' 2) 10' x 13' 3) 9' x 10' Campsite E ~ Tent footprints: 1) 15'x16' 2) 10' x 15' 3) 9' x 10' **Pricing is based on groups of up to four adults or two adults with children. For groups of five to seven adults there is an additional charge of $10 person per day. For groups of eight or more we suggest you reserve both sites and have the entire camp to yourselves. Campsites W and E are about 80' apart. Both are around 100' to the creek. The spots can accommodate a total length (towing vehicle plus trailer) of up to 35 ft. There is an outdoor spigot with potable water and hoses for clean up. The woodlands and creek adjacent to the campsites have trails that are accessible to the public. You and your furry friends are welcome to use these paths, but know that others may be using them too. Richmond has so much to offer and we are just a hop, skip, and a jump to many wonderful attractions - kayak or sunbathe on the James River, walk or bike on trails around the city, rock climb, dine, imbibe.
