Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River.
Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites.
The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped.
Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions.
There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure.

Lee's favorite song and the inspiration behind our name is "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary. The camping options are flexible, ranging from prepared campsites along both Little and Deep creeks with composting outhouses nearby, to "Camper's Choice" options where you may hike in or drive in and create your own camping experience. Please note that since the "Camper's Choice" options allow freedom to select hike-in or drive-in options, the exact distance to nearest outhouse may vary.
There are 144 acres to explore so campers can set up a secluded getaway or cluster together in a group.

Honah Lee Farms has over 140 acres of woods with open fields distributed throughout. We are bordered to the south by the Flat River, to the west by Deep Creek, and to the north by Little Creek. On arrival you'll come down our curvy driveway through the trees, and see our event barn on the left. To the barn's side is a communal space for campers to enjoy with a great view. This area has a wood-fired grill and farm table, with a handwashing station out front. The shared outhouse/composting toilet is next to the pine stand with a white roof.
We have sheep, pigs and a donkey rotating through pastures behind electric fencing. Take a walk to say hello, but don't touch the fence! We also have 3 very friendly farm cats.
Pork and lamb from our farm (as well as kiln-dried firewood) is available for purchase at our farm store.

Our farm is an agritourism/sheep farm that offers seasonal events, educational workshops, a petting zoo, Bed and Breakfast, farm store, and camping area!
We are a working farm during the week but we allow campers to park on weekends or weekdays. The price is the same except the petting zoo and farm store are only open on weekends.
We don't have hookups, so bring a generator if you need it. If you need to fill up your RV water tank, we charge $10. Each of the 3 sites has a fire ring and picnic table.
A Grill Pavilion is available to rent for $20 extra. See photos. Propane, grill, table and party lights included.
We allow check-ins during the week after 12 noon, perfect for folks passing through and just need a safe and quiet place to park for the night and not interested in visiting the farm store, the barnyard or the rest of the farm, which are closed during week.
If you are looking for interaction with the animals, or need supplies from the farm store, we open from 10-4 weekends only. You can purchase feed for the animals for $1/bag then. We have sheep, donkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, guinea pigs and geese!
While we are dog-friendly, we do not allow dogs closer to the petting zoo area. We offer a 1+ acre fenced in area next to the camping sites where you can allow your dogs off-leash. No extra charge.
Our camping area is a large grassy field that will accommodate multiple tent campers, travel trailers, and RVs under 30' with room to turn around, stake your area, and not feel crowded.
There is also 1 regularly maintained porta potty located in this area.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Turn into the driveway and up towards the house. You will enter the camping area through the open double gates on your left. We no longer use the red gate on your right as a camping area.

We had a great time at Phillip and Diane's property. Abundant wildlife blue heron and geese. P&D came down on the morning we were set to leave with Luna, (their dog) for a short visit. They were in contact with us to make sure we were alright. We will surely schedule another visit again. A very pleasant couple.

2 nights at Ancient Spring Farm
I really loved the farm. It is rustic and relaxing. I was able to relax and to unwind, while only traveling a little way.
The breakfast addition was the best! Farm fresh eggs, greens, veggies, local honey, fruit, and bread. 15 out of 10!

I Always camp here when I have to be in Chapel Hill for doctors appointments. It's so quiet and chill. There are a fe w pups running about that are lovely and friendly. The sky is dark at night and it's peaceful. Always sleep like a rock

Wonderful spot - very quiet and peaceful
Host Bekah was responsive to questions and the site was wide-open and ready for us when we got there.
We spent two nights here and spent most of our time relaxing in the shade and taking walks down the hiking trails across the property.
Recommend visiting this spot west of Carrboro for sure!

We took our first camping trip with our new rv here & couldn’t have found a better place! Patrick & his staff were all so friendly & kind, & took the time to include our little one in their activities as there was a field trip during the first day of our stay. We enjoyed exploring the farm & relaxing while we watched the animals. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Weekend Trip to Honah Lee Farms
This is an amazing location, with excellent hosts and quiet camping. Campsite was well maintained, easy to access and very peaceful. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend!

We were so thankful that we found a spot at Red Farm. We had been on the road for 8 hours and really needed to land for the night. Monte was super nice and told us if we ended up coming back his way and the spots were taken, he would find a spot for us. Easy to find and had great services attached for a good price.
