Shadow Mtn - Important Details
Overall, our group had a positive experience at Shadow Mountain but there are a few things folks should know before heading out.
This site is close to Highway 101 and behind a gas station/general store - in some cases the tent sites are <100 feet from the road and essentially in the yard of the gas station. The camper/trailer terraces are further away but there will be road noise. Repeat, there will be road noise at any of the sites, and in some cases it's like being on the shoulder of the highway.
This is not just a temporary/weekend camping spot, there are permanent residents.
The camp and trailer sites are pretty tight, not any less than other crowded campgrounds, but you'll be cozied up with your neighbors for better or worse.
Lastly, we went on the 4th of July and expected some madness, but it was a lot. A firework sales tent was set up in the parking lot. We heard tell that this is annual show at this spot, which may have influenced our dog-owning friends to find somewhere else.
Again, we came away having a mostly positive experience, and I'm sharing what I would have liked to know in advance of booking this spot.
