Located less than 10 minutes from Lake Crescent, directly across US-101 from Lake Sutherland, and 20 minutes west of downtown Port Angeles, Wandering Joy Campground is the perfect homebase for your Olympic National Park adventures! Wander the property trails to discover giant moss-covered boulders, aged big leaf maple, towering grand fir, and western red cedar. Heavily forested with mixed conifer species, dense alder stands, and a rich understory, you'll enjoy a vibrant habitat for wildlife, especially birds. We are committed to protecting the health and wellness of this magical forest and kindly ask that you pack out all trash, exercise extreme caution with campfires, be a respectful neighbor to fellow campers, and leave only good vibes behind! PLEASE NOTE: * We are primarily a tenting campground. Not all sites are suitable for car-camping/rooftop tents as the parking may not be level and/or large enough for your rig. Please send us a message PRIOR to booking and we’d be happy to recommend any available sites that may fit your need. *All of our sites have their own shape, size, and characteristics, no two are alike! Please refer to the site descriptions and pictures to assist you in choosing a site for your adventure. If in doubt, just send a message and we’ll help steer you in the right direction. Your experience is important to us! *We are a small, private campground. As such, our site limits are set to 2 ppl, 1 vehicle, 1 tent. You can select to add up to 2 more ppl on select sites, for an additional charge. Our sites are simply not large enough to be considered group sites. For your comfort, we recommended that you book multiple sites if you have a larger party. As always, we can help you choose the best site for your party, so don’t hesitate to reach out! * 4WD/AWD drive recommended for Sites 9-11 due to the steady uphill gravel access road. Especially recommended for vans and heavier vehicles.

You can choose to either pull up into the site or park in front of the site. Campervans will not be able to pull into up the site due to the sloped entry and size but there is level parking in front of the site. Site 1 can accommodate a 2nd smaller (2-3) person tent outside of the tent pad + great hammock trees!

Site 7 is nestled in between neighboring sites 6 and 8. Perfect site to book along with either 6 or 8 if you are travelling with friends and needing overflow tent space. Canopied by some of the grandest Big Leaf Maples on the property, it provides excellent summer shade!

Please note the size of your vehicle when booking. The site is around a curve and up a hill, gravel driveway. Not recommended for rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Easy access to the property trail leading to the big boulders.

Very nice, wooded site. The campground was quiet and the sites have a decent amount of privacy. Porta-potties extremely clean. Pleasant, helpful host. Easy to find with the very good directions given. I like that there's no public sign at the turnoff from the main road. That means random people without reservations don't show up and drive through the campground looking for camping. Would definitely recommend this sweet little campground!

This is a lovely and incredibly well-maintained Hipcamp! Perfect place to stay for 3 nights while exploring Olympic with my daughter :) And yes, the porta potties are much cleaner than most campsite bathrooms are!

This has to be one of my favorite Hipcamps of all time. Erin is SO warm and friendly, the sites are beautiful with plenty of privacy between each and the tent platform makes it so cozy), the bathrooms are clean and stocked, directions are clear and it's easy to find your site, and the vibe is very safe. Erin also jumped my car battery for me when I was stuck, such an angel! I cannot recommend this spot enough. Super close to Lake Crescent, set far enough back from the road that it's not a bother, and the sites are kept up nicely. Truly could not recommend anything to upgrade or change about this site.

We loved staying at wandering joy! We spoke with Erin briefly and she’s amazing!! The camp site was beautiful and not far from a general store right down the road. Crescent lake is a short drive from the camp site as well. If you have multiple groups camp sites 2,3, and 4 would be perfect to book for multiple parties.

This was one of my favorite campsites near lake crescent I have visited yet. I've been going to the lake every year for the past 20 plus years and couldn't recommend this campground enough. Perfect for your adventuring needs. We will be back. Thank you to our amazing host for keeping such an wonderful campsite running 🥰

My best friend and I had the BEST time at The Wandering Joy campground! One of my biggest concerns camping anywhere is how safe I feel- and I felt so completely safe at this campsite! This spot specifically was sooooo cute and I am so happy that I got to book it! I am already wanting to plan a trip back! The general store was less than 10 mins of a walk (or 2 min drive) so if you forget anything like i did, you don’t have to be worried. Our camp neighbors were very sweet and I felt that I had privacy even though the camp site next to us was pretty close. The noise of the traffic on the road was not bad at all. I was a little nervous due to reading previous reviews…. but genuinely I didn’t hear anything! Overall, I LOVED this camp spot and this campground. I want to return back soon! 🌷

Great campsite, quiet, extremely clean porta potty’s, good picnic table and fire pit. I do feel like we could’ve had our car closer to our spot there seemed to be room. I wish there was a way to walk down to the lake but it’s all private property which isn’t the campsites fault :) also loved how they had firewood you could buy and a little trail on property.

Easy to find with the directions provided. The campground and site were great, clean bathrooms. Very apparent the owners go "the extra mile" BUT the location near the highway and the mountain/hill behind caused every vehicle to echo through the campground. When it was quiet, it was serene but the vehicle noise wasn't so pleasant, it woke me up throughout the night. If you are not a heavy sleeper, be prepared for this.

I had an excellent time at site 11 and had plenty of space for the RTT. The property overall was very well maintained, lots of space between sites which is appreciated and quite possibly the nicest porta potties ever. It’s a good middle ground for access to the National Park.

Super cute location, conveniently located next to a general store and right outside the park and Port Angeles. Extremely well kept; sites are fairly small but the location and how beautiful it is more than make up for the tight fit if you have a larger tent or a lot of gear. There were an incredible amount of spiders/daddy long legs, but this is more an observation than a complaint, since you're in the woods. Remember to check burn bans, luckily we were prepared with a propane fire ring and enjoyed a campfire despite the total ban on campfires. Also don't forget to bring all the water you'll need. A camp shower wouldn't be a bad gear choice to haul along either. Would stay here again and definitely will recommend to friends wanting to explore the Olympics! So impressed with how clean and welcoming the campground was, and we lucked out and had really friendly neighbors as well.

Site 0 was such a cute spot, perfect for 2! The covered platform kept our tent dry and comfortable during a couple days of rain. Lots of privacy from neighboring sites as well. Clean facilities and friendly host! Will definitely come back in the future, and recommend to others

We stayed at Wandering Joy Campground for a couple of days and absolutely loved it! Erin was an awesome host—super nice, laid-back, and easy to work with. We stayed at Site 0, which had a covered platform that made setup incredibly easy and comfortable. The whole campground has such a cute, cozy aesthetic. Having firewood available to purchase was super convenient, and I have to give special credit to the porta potties—they were so clean they actually smelled good, which might be the highest compliment a campground bathroom can receive. There’s also a general store literally around the corner, which is perfect for those inevitable last-minute camping essentials. Overall, we had a great stay and will definitely be coming back next year!

Wonderful location and the most pristine portapotties I’ve ever experienced! The location is perfect for Lake Crescent adventures! Each site has a fire pit and picnic tables. You can get firewood and kindling st any time (pay by the log thru Venmo). There’s a little road noise from hwy 101 but it was largely filtered by the lovely old growth trees. There’s a neighboring RV campground that we could see from site 11. My daughter and I loved exploring the trails— they’re sweet little excursions through sword ferns, Doug firs, cedars and salad that make you feel like you’ve entered another land! To top it off, the camp host Erin is an absolute gem! We adored our stay and will absolutely be back!

Third time at Wondering Joy. Love the location near Crescent Lake and love the property owner. Erin is so kind and has really made a nice campground for visitors. I have had 3 different sites, this time was site 11 on top of the hill and I loved it, nice and private. Would choose site 11 again.

We booked two sites right next to each other for a huge birthday getaway! Booking was a total breeze, and we felt that the price was very fair. The porta-potties were nearby, and honestly, were way cleaner than many actual bathrooms I've used when traveling. There were neighbors camping at other sites (one brought a super cute puppy), but even if they were relatively close, we felt like we were the only ones around. Even outside of quiet hours, I think our group was the noisiest with our card games and laughter (so sorry!—I kept reminding my group to peep down, promise). The trees and the environment felt secluded, even with the main road close by. There's a gas station right next door for easy fill-up and grabbing snacks or paracord or a lighter if needed. There are some spots driving in that are a bit steep for some cars, so AWD is highly recommended (and be careful walking up/down them or you may end up with a skinned knee)! Firewood was available for sale and we got a few logs to supplement the chopped cherry we brought. The fire pits/grills were clean and easy to use. There was some dew in the morning, and we heard birds, saw a single squirrel, and made friends with an inchworm. A few bees/wasps and a couple of spiders, but fewer critters than expected overall. Some friends who are huge campers and flew in for the weekend thought it was one of the best camp sites they've ever visited. Erin also walked by to say hi a couple of times and was very friendly. 10/10 recommend!

We loved campsite 0! The platform for the tent was nice in the drizzle. The site was spacious and perfect for 2. Toilets were clean and maintained. The location was great for heading out for day hikes and exploring the area. Nice quiet campground and very friendly host! We will definitely camp here again!

A great experience! Campsites are spaced out and pretty private, and nice to have the satellites there to use. Erin at one point brought over salmonberries she had foraged and told us where to find them. Plus the location is really hard to beat - we were within 20 minutes of Lake Crescent, Salt Creek/Crescent Beach, the Olympic Hot Springs trailhead, and so much more. Would happily come back!

My boyfriend and I had an awesome time at Wandering Joy and would love to come back! Campsite was spacious, bathrooms were super clean, firewood easy to access, just all around a great experience. It was the perfect location for taking day trips into Olympic Park, and we loved being so close to Lake Crescent. 10/10

NO DRINKING WATER ON SITE. It’s a fairly nice site with, depending on the exact site you get, some road noise. The location is central and solid. However, the facilities have no water on site and the pricing of the facilities with this lacking is pretty surprising.

I love staying at this campground whenever I visit Lake Crescent! It's only a 10 minute drive from the Lake Crescent Lodge and is always, clean, beautiful, and peaceful! I'll be back next year
