Fox Farm is located on 8 magical acres in eclectic Brattleboro, VT. Pitch your tent in a sacred private white pine forest or closer to the trail-head with access to a charcoal grill, a huge fire circle and a picnic table. If you prefer a roof over your head, check Fox Farm Cottage @ Fox Farm. Located ideally on a trail-head that leads to the West River Trail (a 36-mile scenic trail through the West River Valley – eventually linking Brattleboro, Dummerston, Newfane, Townshend, Jamaica and South Londonderry) and the West River, offering opportunities to hike, fish, swim, ski, snow shoe and bike. The Marina Bar and Restaurant is a 2 mile hike or bike ride from the camp site (via the West River Trail) and is a fun way to see the beauty of Vermont and partake in some excellent indoor/outdoor dining with views of the water. Currently there are two areas available to campers; The Pine Forest and the Council of the Elders. The Pine Forest is a shaded circular area that is very spiritual and quiet. There are currently 3 camp sites in the Pine Forest. The Council of the Elders is a more open (again circular) area that abuts The Pine Forest and has a large fire pit as it's centerpiece, surrounded by the Elder Pine trees. I have had up to 2 campers and an occasional van/camper at the Council of the Elders. I have most recently had requests to book the entire Pine Forest for guests who are traveling together and want privacy- and Ido my best to work with people to accommodate any needs. Please bring your own firewood if you intend to have a fire. I offered wood to guests in the past when I was able but found that tricky to manage as there are times I myself am out of wood. There is plenty of felled wood all around as the property is surrounded by a dense forest and guests are welcome to gather that to supplement fire making. In my experience as a host, I have noted that folks come together and build mini-communities, share food, fires and is generally a positive vibe. Some come for privacy and solitude, which has not been an issue thus far. All in all the energy is upbeat and folks make friends along the way- me too! Brattleboro is a funky, hipster town with many excellent restaurants and much to see and do. For winter enthusiasts Mount Snow is a 30 minute drive and folks can cross country ski and snowshoe right from their camp sites to the 36 mile trail. The Hipcamper can expect privacy yet easy accessibility to the homeowner for tips and ideas to support a positive experience. Campers may be greeted and visited my friendly Bernese Mountain Dog's, Loki Bear and Levi!

Fox Farm Cottage

Fox Farm is located on 8 magical acres in eclectic Brattleboro, VT. The Fox Farm Cottage is a sweet space that includes a loft for sleeping and sharing with a comfy bed and futon, above a quaint family room with a hearty woodstove. The warmer months provide sweet summer breezes and intoxicating scents from the surrounding flora. The Cottage has a beautiful covered porch overlooking garden beds, fruit trees and abundant wild red and black raspberry bushes. The porch has also been enjoyed by many when the winter chill sets in and the snow falls with a silence that is pleasant and the scent of wood smoke that is memorable. The Cottage comes with a charcoal grill and your own private fire pit. Please bring you own wood for indoor/outdoor fires, I can't seem to always have wood to share.   To note, the stairway to to the loft is narrow and should be a consideration for those who may experience difficulties. The Fox Farm Cottage is a rustic step up from tent camping that it is cozy, cute, charming and warm and does not (at this point) offer plumbing or water.  It is not fancy, but comfortable. The cottage comfortably sleeps 3 (Queen size comfy bed in loft with a futon that could sleep 1 adult or two children). I provide linens for the bed but would advise folks to bring extra blankets if chilly. Because there have been requests to camp outside the cottage for larger groups (this is seperate from the campground which is located on the other side of the property), I have most recently added a $25 PP charge for overflow guests who may want to crash on the porch or sleep in their own tent in the back yard of the cottage area. To date, I have set the site up to include 5 additional people for overflow and can be discussed if there are more folks who want to join. Offered are a primitive  portable potties with compostable bags provided.  I have a carry in/carry out policy with an expectation that guests pack out what they pack in and includes trash, recycling and waste.  Further amenities may be arranged by talking with Cindy, the property owner, or Mark if needed.   The hipcamper can expect privacy yet easy accessibility to the homeowner for tips and ideas to support a positive experience. Cindy's campsite offers a cozy and peaceful retreat, delighting visitors with its proximity to the West River Trail and the charm of a rustic, backwoods experience. Many guests appreciated the host's warmth and attentiveness, noting her willingness to assist with any needs, from providing fresh flowers to helpful local tips. However, some guests found the bathroom facilities less than ideal, with a composting toilet setup that required carrying out waste, which was not universally well-received. Despite this, the lush surroundings, easy access to town, and the friendly presence of Cindy's dogs make it a compelling choice for those seeking a tranquil escape.
