Watch the sunset into the world famous San Juan Islands. Our property is located on the scenic Chuckanut Drive. It is a 15 minute walk to Taylor United's Seafood Bar that has beer and wine. You will need boots just below the knee, or hiking shoes that will get wet. The Creek crossing is a little deeper this year. You will also be crossing a muddy area for about 20 yards, you will sink about 3 inches into the mud. The hike into the campsite takes 12 minutes. You need to contact me to check the tides, as to be able to get to the campsite. We need to hike in below a 5 foot tide. Starting October, the campsite closes for winter. Again , this campsite is Tide dependent. The first question to me should be, What is the latest we can hike in? I am not Moses, I can’t part the sea. Camp closed during winter October/ march

Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Anacortes Washington Park or Kukutali Preserve State Park crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and, the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago. Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles. While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! . We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations. The intention infused into all of our spaces is a Hygge* (pronounced hoo-gah) vibe. *Hygge is a calm, comfortable time with people you love. The absence of frustrations; often enjoyed with warm drinks, cozy blankets and candlelight or a fire.❤️ County Noise Statement: We love living in rural Whatcom County and we know land owners in our area love it too. In fact, their enthusiasm for the great outdoors is so high that sometimes they can generate sounds that will travel throughout the day. These are likely sounds you are not accustomed to hearing in a traditional neighborhood. Distant noises such as: -county shooting range located a few miles away -tractors -mowers & chainsaws -ATV vehicles -barking dogs -farm animals (goat, horses, crowing roosters) -wild animals (early morning bird song and owls at night) -children laughing -adult voices -train horn Evenings are generally very quiet and peaceful as night falls with the exception of holiday weekends as the enthusiasm for owning property in the country may ramp up ;) We tell you all this in order to be fully transparent about noise potential. If the potential for noise and the nearby shooting range will be a damper on your glamping experience, no worries! We totally get it! Our place is probably not the best fit. If you want to bring your kids to a place where they can build a fort, take a break from their screens and build family memories over a campfire, then you will love it here! The *Purple Cottage* -- was found & salvaged (recycled!)-- moved onto the back of my property in 2012. This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & ; family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... There is a very small sleeping loft in the cottage.). There is a “en suite kitchen in the cottage that has a small fridge, microwave, and two burner stovetop cooking unit. The cottage offers privacy in a wooded garden setting. The bathhouse, with hot shower, vanity and; toilet --are all steps away (and covered) from the main cabin. The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. our vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Even with all the little enclave of buildings, The Purple Cottage retains a private feel all to itself, with reliable Wi-Fi available at the cottage. . It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. The private deck off the side of the Purple Cottage offers views of the gardens & flora, and has a little gas barbecue. There is also a delightful hot tub on the deck, which is a wonderful feature. An outdoor kitchen on the edge of the woods allows a roomier “camp cooking” experience with Colman stove & cold running water (season permitting). We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town! Such a great site outside of Mt Baker on a BEAUTIFUL property! The hosts were so kind to greet me and make me feel so welcome and safe! Their cutie pup - Lupine - was a delight. Porta potty was clean and the river was a nice bonus after a long day of hiking! 10/10 find and recommend to anyone :)

The entire property is very well maintained. We stayed in the Bunkhouse which is a dry cabin (there is a pump nearby for non-potable water and a very clean and odor-free compost toilet in an outhouse building right at the bunkhouse). The futon sofa converts into a very comfortable bed and there is a table built in to the bottom of a bunk bed. There are no electrical outlets but there are interior lights. We were there during dahlia season and Margaret had a beautiful vase of flowers in the bunkhouse and in the privy. There are thoughtful touches throughout the property. We love the hiking trails in the forest and they are all marked and she provides a map so you cannot get lost! We really enjoyed getting away with our dog and being in the countryside.

Weekend Trip to Fruit of the Earth Farm

This was our third visit to the little cabins at Fruit of the Earth, and we always have a wonderful time. The property is beautiful and Leia is a great host. I was so glad we opted for the dozen farm fresh eggs with our booking this time, and in the past we’ve loved getting to meet and feed the animals. Can’t wait to come back!

What a beautiful farm and forest! The bunkhouse was clean and very comfortable, and the composting toilet was arguably cleaner than our bathroom at home 😂 We had a wonderful time going on a quiet hike in the private forest, viewing owls and forest life. Margaret was a very kind and thoughtful host. We would love to return!

Weekend Trip to Whidbey Purple Cottage w/ Hot Tub

It was such a peaceful stay, nestled in the trees! It was quiet and every view was of trees and greenery from the 4 relatively big windows of the cottage. Some highlights include Sarah's wonderful assemblage art inside and outside the cottage, a visit to the community beach, and some nice conversations with Sarah and her partner. They are both kind people with artistic passions. And Dog Rio is very sweet too! I would have happily stayed longer to enjoy the art, the trees, the peacefulness, and the wonderful hosts!

Weekend Trip to Saltgrass Garden

One of the best Hip Camps we’ve ever stayed at … the cabin is on a serene piece of property and well kept up. Incredible amenities like bathroom, hot shower, and kitchen with oven, stove, and refridgerator / freezer. The location was perfect for our day trips to the San Juan Islands and North Cascades National Park. We would definitely stay here again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We really loved having this cozy place to chill after a long day exploring Whatcom Falls, the city and the lake. The bed was comfortable too! it’s a paradise for anyone looking to get away from crowded campgrounds and the hustle of it all. lusa is incredibly friendly, communicative, and goes above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay. it’s an easy drive to and from olympic national park, with everything you need nearby. the lodge had everything i could’ve imagined needing, and my dog absolutely loved it here. the sauna is such a bonus, especially after long hikes. worth every penny. i’d definitely stay here again.

I caught perfect weather for my three night stay. The peacefulness, solitude and beauty are unmatched. The host was responsive and helpful. Read the description and reviews before you book. I packed light as much wasn't needed. I slept in my little tent and brought dehydrated food for meals. Just be sure to bring enough water. I did leave once a day to go explore, just be comfortable reading your tide charts so you know what times you can get in and out. Can't wait to go back.

Such a wonderful place to come back to after adventuring in Olympic national park. So peaceful. Gardens are beautiful, doggies are sweet. Kateen is a wonderful host. So many amenities that we didn’t get to take advantage of but the communal kitchen was great and I loved the outdoor shower.

Everything you read about this place is true. Yes, it is a beautiful natural environment. Yes, Nancy is friendly, helpful, accommodating, and responsive. Yes, it is screened from view but not secluded per se, as her home is next door. Yes, there is a gap between the bed and the wall that will swallow your pillows. Yes coffee on the porch is peaceful and idyllic.

A bit crowded, the campsites were a bit close together but otherwise well maintained. Facilities were clean and nearby.

A little bit more crowded than our Mountain Lake Campground, but still quite lovely. Several trailheads nearby, a boating lodge, a snack shack, boat rentals, bbqs and group picnic area are available. The campground hosts were very kind. There is running water and showers. Firewood on an honor system. The nearest town and gas station are only a short 10 minute drive away.

Reserved a lake side spot for my husband's birthday and was amazed at the peaceful site we booked. There are several trailheads nearby, and facilities when in season. We enjoyed our stay very much and the lake itself was GORGEOUS.
