Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. Had a really restful and restorative weekend in this little cabin! Dawson was super chill, got a couple things in need of fixing done quick, and was very respectful about privacy. The sauna was great and a really nice add-on since it was an extremely rainy weekend. The cabin smelled like fresh wood (love!) and everything was functional, but not perfect or precious, which is where the real relaxation happens for me. It was an easy, low-barrier destination for a solo trip where all I really wanted was deep decompression within four cozy walls, and it definitely delivered!

Had a great stay! After camping in Olympic NP, we stayed three nights before heading straight to Mt. Rainier SP. We ended up staying and enjoying the place more than expected, since we're usually constantly on the go exploring. It was a great experience, and we would love to come back.

This forest retreat was adorable! Cedar River has everything you need to have a good time from string lights to the trail nearby. Site felt secluded with plenty of us to set up tents alongside the cabin. We especially loved the bonus experience of live music and food up at the main house for the Forest Session with Kurt Lindsay. Definitely worth it.

As the property manager and host for The Legacy Basecamp, I wanted to experience the space firsthand and it truly delivered. While I manage the bookings and guest experience rather than stewarding this incredible land long-term, staying here gave me a full appreciation for what makes this spot so special. There is plenty of open space for the family to run around, play, and unwind. One of our favorite details was hearing the faint whistle of the train passing in the distance,it adds such a classic, peaceful touch to the woods. The large covered outdoor space was a lifesaver for escaping the midday heat, and it will clearly be the ultimate cozy refuge once the fall and winter rains set in. Between the fully equipped indoor kitchen and the versatile outdoor cooking setups, meal prep was effortless with tons of options. After full days outside, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and everything we needed was right at hand. We left feeling completely refreshed.

Weekend Trip to The Plank and Pillow on Pirate Cove

This site was perfect for our whole family. Our kids are 7 and 4 years old and were able to manage the stairs up to the bathroom, loved the bunk room and all the pirate fun, and really enjoyed the lake. Our dog enjoyed the freedom the leash pulley system through the property allowed him. And my husband and I got the right amount of rest, peace, and play. We weren’t quite ready for a full camping trip and this cabin had enough indoor amenities to make the experience painless (comfy beds, clean and functional indoor kitchen, and tv for wind down time) and enough campsite amenities (picnic table, lake recreation equipment, outdoor shower) to make it feel like we were experiencing the best of the outdoors without the sometimes frustrating challenges of camping with young kids. Kevin has also incorporated a really fun pirate theme into the cove and it made the whole stay even more memorable. Our kids have already made us promise to come back next summer and we look forward to it!

Weekend Trip to Pipe Lake Cabin

I just stayed 2 nights over the weekend with my daughter and dog. The cabin was perfect for our needs. It's comfortable, clean,.and better stocked than expected with microwave, toaster, etc. and several blankets. We enjoyed the dock and tried out the kayaks. I was glad to have brought life jackets and a long cable leash which helped us positition the kayaks on the water and also kept the youth kayak connected to mine. A camping shower came in handy for rinsing after. The place felt private enough but it did get pretty noisy down the lake with sounds of a late-rising rooster, lots of cheering, laughing, loud music and some questionable singing 😄

Thank you for such a fun experience! The best part was all of the water toys we were able to use! Such a quiet and peaceful location. It’s our first time using hip camp and hopefully a bathroom is installed so we can return! That was the only issue the porter potty location. Other than that we enjoyed every bit of the cabin we even brought our projector so we had a movie night outside under the stars cabin is fully stocked Kevin literally thought of everything!

Would love to see an indoor restroom, or one that didn't require a hike up a bunch of stairs and a hill to access (for my mom), but otherwise, truly a perfect stay!
