The cats and poultry are free range so if you are fearful of chickens, ducks or turkeys, you probably shouldn't stay here. 😁 Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and re-established their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods. We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). McKee Farm is rich in memories and rich in history. It has been in the family for over 150 years and we were told that it was one of stopping points for the underground railroad. The 240 acre farm boasts a hidden cave, wide open fields, breathtaking forest land, and historic and rustic barns. Nestled at the edge of a wooded creek, Tullihas in the Trees treehouse boasts a beautiful sunset view with rolling hills. Tullihas combines comfort with the thrill of being immersed in nature. Built using recycled electric poles, Tullihas in the Trees has a deck perfect for hammocking, an interior dressed with windows so that guests can feel as if they are living amongst the trees, and two small lofts ideal for a restful night's sleep. Oxley in the Woods is our newest treehouse cabin. We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. 2 nights at McKee Farm - Treehouses and Camping

My two youngest both have autism. My youngest is non verbal , sensory seeking, comes alive in nature. This was the perfect vacation for him. I knew his anxiety wouldn't let him walk the farm , so having the cows come right up near the house was magical. He loves exploring the house and building pillow forts in the front living room with the loveseat pillows. He especially loved the mirror upstairs and would making silly faces and dance. His behaviors were amazing you could see how the farm and nature just calmed his body and mind. I hope I can save up the money to come back soon. I wish I could give my son this everyday !!! Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us. We are eternally grateful.

Weekend Trip to Ashcraft Hills

We really enjoyed our stay at the A-frame. It was very quite and private. The fishing pond was stocked with voracious pan fish and bass, which my daughter thoroughly enjoyed. There was plenty of open space for my dog to explore. Inside the cabin was very clean and comfortable. I really liked the back deck and the view of the trees. We'd absolutely stay again!

We loved our stay along the river, even though there was a storm that went through the night, everything was dry and the tiny waterfall out front was even bigger, so cool to wake up to. A little outdoor shower is all this place is missing :)

I enjoyed my stay. I liked the deck in the back of the cabin. I'm glad I brought a good pair of hiking boots and warm blankets. As long as you not a person who expects their cabins to be hootell room then I think you will like it. If you are a tent camper and don't wanna worry about pitching tent this perfect or if you are used to glamping and wanna try something less polished this good for that to.

Weekend Trip to Sacred Tree Sanctuary in Newark, OH

We had a wonderful time camping on Maryam’s beautiful property. I booked the site for a bachelorette party weekend with old friends, so there were about 10 of us, and this was an excellent choice. The guest of honor stayed in the yurt, which was clean and well decorated. The bathroom by the yurt site was clean and peaceful, a much more substantial structure than what we were expecting. There’s a loop you can hike through the property and a highlight for me was roaming around with my coffee, noticing the different wildflowers and birds. Our hosts were available to respond to our needs but also very respectful of our space. Everything was clean and well kept and the spot was easy to find. My friends and I had a lovely and connective time together and are already planning to meet here again in the future.✨☄️🪐

My girlfriend and I loved our one night stay on the farm. We enjoyed all the sights and sounds and were excited to get out of the city for one night. Even though it rained for most of the trip we loved everything it had to offer and definitely look forward to experiencing it all when the sun and stars are out.

The site is wonderful and comfy! The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen and eating space had just enough room and were spacious. Edward was very accommodating and helped me out after I was flooded out of a KOA campground. If I'm ever in the area, I will definitely come back!

2 nights at Shady Owl Ranch

Stayed here for our 2nd wedding anniversary and to relax after life chaos. My only regret was not staying longer. We stayed with our dog Sally, who is 100000% a city dog and has never seen chickens or turkeys. She did great. Her scariest moment was the paddle board moving in the wind or Tommy (the turkey) yelling at me to get out of the cabin HAHA. We stayed in the songbird cabin and it was perfect waking up to the pond out front and the roosters/Tommy's calls (I already miss those guys!!). The trails are perfect with lots of wild flowers and cute stump decor throughout the trails. The amenities were perfect and just what one would need for a get away...and the beds, they were the comfiest ever (even better than ours at home) so not only will you relax from the atmosphere, but you will get a great night's sleep. We added on the eggs and honey; highly recommend as they are worth it! My favorite part was definitely Tommy and the chickens! They gave us some needed joy we needed at this time. Though, if you try to befriend a chicken...they will trick you and say no while the others by the barn laugh leaving you embarrassed HAHAHAHA. We will definitely be back throughout the year as a relaxing home away from home. Highly recommend staying more than 2 nights!

This is our second time staying here. We have a nonverbal 10 year old so it can be difficult to find places that are safe to camp with him. This place is perfect! They've added wifi, a gravel driveway, hardwood floors and a beautiful sliding door that opens up The entire cabin. We love that there is a washer and dryer because our boy loves to play in mud and get dirty. They have everything you could possibly need. The owners are super nice and accommodating! Walk the trails, play in the creek, enjoy the fire and forget about the world for a few days !

The place was easy to find and the hosts were very nice people. So much to do that you can just enjoy a whole vacation being there. Tipi was really cool with all the amenities provided. Cooking was a lot of fun there as you have a tripod and an assortment of cast iron pans and a grill nearby with plenty of camping cooking supplie and general kitchen items. Spirit, the host dog, had a very friendly demeanor and snoot boops were 10 out of 10

My friends and I had the best time staying in the Tullihas in the Trees treehouse this past weekend. Carol was the perfect hostess and responded quickly to any needs or questions we had. She offered us the experience to bottle feed a lamb and we immediately took her up on such a fun experience. Even though the weekend was chilly, we stayed nice and cozy with the propane heater provided. The treehouse was clean and comfortable. We definitely plan on returning.

Weekend Trip to The Turkey Hollow Campground

What I was liked about staying at Turkey Hollow was the location. The campground entrance was off the beaten path which the gravel road leads you down a long and winding path to the camp sites. I stayed in one of the cabins which is quite rustic. Once you arrived it is quite nice and spacious with a loft above for additional sleeping space. But what I enjoyed seeing was a herd of cows across the way which kept me entertained. I would sit on the back balcony and sit and listen to nature. It is so peaceful and relaxing. I enjoyed it so much that I can say I will definitely return again.

Dispersed camping is allowed, and in my opinion, is the best, along with "park and pack" sites. But there are also primitive camp sites at the campground, with toilets near by, as well as RV and electric sites. Lots of hiking trails, mountain biking trails and equestrian trails. If you want some off the beaten path, longer, more challenging hikes, I'd suggest using the bike paths or the horse trails, just be respectful to others. Yield to bikers and horses, speak a friendly hello to riders and their mounts, so that they aren't afraid of you ( trust me I ride horses and sometimes they think your giant backpack and trekking poles will eat them).

We camped here for 3 nights last summer. Mohican State Park is kind of spread out in the state forest. There's good hiking, tubing down the creek & a picturesque covered bridge with a picnic area. The falls are a little sparse in August, but we still had a good time hiking. The campground has over 150 electric sites. There are cottages too. Flush toilets are scattered all over the campground, while the main shower house is by the pool. There's laundry facilities also. The best sites are by the creek. We had site 78, which had a partial view of the creek. The best sites were : 86, 100, & 142. Large, & right on the creek. Reservations are a must, especially during the summer. It was pretty crowded when we were there.
