Shady Owl Ranch is a 17 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, guineas, ducks and two turkeys. Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and are currently re-establishing their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range chickens, guineas, ducks, dogs, cats on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Cozy cabin with a mission!

My husband and I stayed at the Conifer Cabin for a weekend getaway celebrating our 4 year anniversary. It was delightful! The Conifer felt wonderfully secluded. It was such a cozy cabin with the right amount of creature comforts: a comfy bed, plenty of blankets, a small cooking stove, tea kettle, indoor bathroom/composting toilet, small fridge, futon & chair for reading or lounging. I could go on! We loved the farm fresh eggs, walking their beautiful property trails, and the short drive to downtown Mount Vernon. It was everything we had hoped for! Great cabin, cool mission. We would definitely visit again!

Songbird Suite

We had a great weekend at the Songbird Suite! A perfect mix of comfort and outdoors. Loved the little touches such as the Keurig and water jug, and the bed was so comfortable! We enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen (but were glad to have brought a small grill with us too due to the rain) and appreciated the supplies Amanda provided! Our pup had a nice run around the dog park and the trail on the property was great for a quick hike. We’d recommend Amanda’s space to anyone looking for a weekend getaway!

Perfect little weekend getaway

The cabin was perfect! Quaint, comfortable and inviting. Amanda and Chuck were terrific hosts. Fishing was fun and walking the property was so relaxing. I would recommend this to anyone. And have already begun telling my friends and colleagues. Can’t wait for the opportunity to visit again. 😊
