Snowmobile and ATV trail #3 is just a short cruise down Donken-Tapiola Road. Furry friends are always welcome and are able to be off leash! Turtle Pond Site has an approx. 12x30 foot level gravel pad and a fire pit on a small pond frequented by turtles, ducks, deer, birds, and even an occasional beaver. There is a 100 year old Finnish Homestead a short walk down a mowed trail. Guests are encouraged to take a look, but please don't enter the buildings as their integrity is unknown. We strive to continue to improve our property every year. This year, we are working to improve the pond health and its borders. An updated photo is included in our listing; but you may notice small differences as the property settles back after being disrupted during this improvement. We were able to maintain the privacy that guests compliment in our reviews while also clearing away unnecessary overgrowth.

Please contact the host if there are any special requests for 2026 that may appear blocked as we often use the site and can be flexible if needed. This site has a private level aggregate 50 foot RV pad overlooking Lake Superior with 50/30 amp service, well water and septic hookups. This site is best for Class A, B or C RV's. Towables will work, but you will need to back in for access to your tow vehicle and your door will open away from the lake. No tents allowed. With respect for our good neighbors, no parties or loud music allowed. This site is for quietly relaxing with your family and friends and enjoying the big lake views. The site has 100 feet of private sandy beach and great swimming (sandy shallow bottom out 100 feet). Included is a wood fired Sauna to help with the lakes colder water. Also included is a 16x20 deck overlooking the lake, 2 picnic tables, deck chairs, gas grill, charcoal grill, beach chairs and 2 fire rings (Firewood is available to purchase onsite or can be purchased at several places on the way in). A separate flushable toilet enclosure is available and can be used if desired. A canoe, 2 kayaks and paddles are provided for you to use at your own risk (Some lifejackets are in the deck box). The premium site will support a 40 foot vehicle but require you to disconnect a towable at an angle for access to your vehicle. There is an additional RV parking spot with full hookups that may be available. Contact the host to confirm availability since I sometimes park my boat trailer there. The additional site will support a 36 foot vehicle again requiring you to disconnect at an angle for access to your tow vehicle (30 amps only from this additional site via a provided extension cord). A large Class A or C will require you to have good backup skills to get out and a spotter to watch for obstacles and clearance on the way in and out, but it is easily done. Plenty of blocks are provided for additional clearance if needed. ATT has good cell service here and Verizon is OK but marginal at times.

What more do you need than a private camping site and your 125' of your own pristine Lake Superior beachfront access? Well, there is the need of a fire ring so we added that, too! Everything else you will to bring to enjoy the million dollar views. Oh, and on the opposite side of the camping site is quiet slough which is great for smooth water paddling and exploring. Down the gravel road about 1/3 miles are logging roads to hike, bike and explore. OHV trails are a couple miles away but check local maps for detailed information. Intentionally being minimalists beyond a fire ring and picnic table, there is a port-a-john (of humble means) to make your stay comfortable. You will need to bring your own firewood if you desire a campfire.

Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 18 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town. It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk! There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town! Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay. A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history. Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either! You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Drury's General Store, where there's also a laundromat. Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior. This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook. There are new bike trails if you're into that as well! Stay awhile. You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

Doc Bell operated his veterinarian practice from this farm starting in 1915, giving his name to the creek running through the property and the lake it feeds. It's situated on 21 acres of what was the original Wawonowin Country Club, a 9-hole golf course that was built in the early 1800s and then closed in the mid 1960s. And now we have a beautiful mix of hardwoods and pines, forests and fields with multiplied non-motorized trails accessible right off the property. The very popular RAMBA bike trails are literally an ‘stones throw’ away! Our biggest site, Fairway Field is big enough for group camping that horse campers love, and one site, the Homestead, with an electric hookup. We don’t have a dump station or trash cans so please pack in and pack out. Phone signal is good throughout the area and we are close to civilization for necessities and only 20 minutes from Marquette. So much stuff to do in this area!

This place is something special. There is firewood available at small cost. The toilet was clean and private. Although we didn’t use much (because we had our own stuff) the owner was good with us using some of the camping gear he had available outside of his own RV. My favorite part of the trip was watching the moon come up over the horizon. If you like dark sky’s and seeing more stars than most anywhere else, this is your place. I’m sure the sunrise is just as spectacular, but I’m lazy and didn’t get up for it :).

A nice site and a convenient drive to catch the ferry for Isle Royale in Houghton! I ended up arriving in the dark and was still able to find the site relatively easily. I did not interact with the hosts in person, as I was in late and out early for the ferry, but I know for some that’s even a bonus! I would note the campsite is accessible via a grassy trail, so you should be comfortable having your car on such terrain.

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground! The views were absolutely beautiful, the place was quiet, peaceful with well maintained sites. There were great walking trails where we could explore, look for animal footprints, and enjoy watching all the birds and wildlife. The host was also very nice and welcoming, which made our stay even better. It was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy nature, and spend time together. We would definitely stay here again! 🌲🐾 🦢

Weekend Trip to RUTH LAKE RESORT

Great place to stay with kids, family or just adults. We had to move from original campground and found this place an hour away. It was worth it! Beautiful sandy beach, big fire pit and extras near cabins. Kayaks, paddle boards, two docks, cabins, hotel, and two spots for rv's. Electric and water hook up. They turned their pole barn garage into an entertainment area, with washer/dryers, extra bathroom with shower, and outdoor standing bar with sitting. We used this area to cook breakfast outside, with roof over our head. I also used the shower, so I could take longer hot showers then our RV let's us. Easy to find off highway. Didn't mind the sounds of cars going by. Our dogs loved the beach and water. We went more to the side so little kids could enjoy the main beach area. Very nice outdoor sauna. Saw people and kids go in, then jump in lake, and start all over. Only 45 minutes to Marquette, and we visited a few tourist stops. We will be back for sure!

Beautiful stay on the farm and enjoyed a nice evening in the sauna. Loved our farm fresh eggs in the morning, visiting the animals and looking at the newly born rabbits. Spent the sunset walking around trying different variations of apples. Madelin and AJ were so welcoming and gave good recs for hikes in the area.

The place was peaceful and private. We picked this area up camp (rooftop tent) because it is literally right on the RAMBA bike trail. Beautiful area, single track and challenging in some areas or you can walk/hike the trails. I’m sure it’s gorgeous in the Fall too! Short distance to area towns. The hosts were great!

I stayed in the house. I like that it's surrounded by woods, so it feels like you're camping. It's only a few minutes from town, which was also perfect for us, because we could go to town for a few hours and then go back to settle down for the night. It's a very simple home with beautiful scenery.

My daughter and I camped at the Homestead site with Heritage Hills hosted by Joni and Phil last week. The site was great!! We felt like we had the horse farm to ourselves. It was so private and secluded. And a great place to view the beautiful night sky by the camp fire.

Good things come in small packages, as they say. And while Baraga State Park, on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, measures only 56 square acres, its location on the beautiful Keweenaw Bay of Lake Superior puts it squarely in the “good things” category. Along with tent and RV campsites, the park offers one teepee and one mini-cabin for rent, plus access to a short nature trail. Still, the draw of Baraga State Park is Keweenaw Bay, where visitors can be found swimming, fishing, and boating during the warmer months.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Baraga State Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is full of life. However, autumn also offers a spectacular display of fall foliage. Winters can be harsh, with heavy snowfall limiting access to certain areas, making it less ideal for visitors.
