The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. This is a 160 square foot tiny house/cabin in a small wooded area at the rear of my 2 acre property. A separate 90 square foot bath house is also provided. Both are primitive, ie, no electric or running water. The are some solar lights and candles for nighttime. Enjoy laying in the hammocks with a nice camp fire in the evening. The house is heated with a small wood stove but there is no air conditioning. Cook either on the wood stove or over the fire outside. In the summertime it is nice and private with the surrounding vegetation Please keep in mind. This is a primitive setting in the woods. It will be hot in the summer and temperature must be maintained in the winter with the wood stove or Buddy Heater. While I do spray for bugs to the best of my ability, there is a good chance you will encounter at least a few. We are in a residential country setting, so you may experience other wildlife as well. In the summertime while the foliage is up it is quite private, although you can still hear the neighbors. In the winter you will be able to see the neighbors as the trees are bare.

More than just a glamping experience, the cabin is provided with hot and cold running water, a Bathroom with shower and composting toilet, electricity, heat and air-conditioning, a kitchenette for meal preparation and, of course, a great porch where you can enjoy the solitude of Sassafras Hollow. Our farm is conveniently located near state parks, hiking trails, and streams for outdoor activities. Standing Stone Trail is a mile from the farm and it’s a short drive to The East Broad Top Railroad, Lake Raystown and the Thousand Steps. Since we operate an organic vegetable farm, seasonal produce is always available. We are also home to Barn Door Artisans, a collaborative family enterprise offering finished wood products, ceramics and fine art. Visit the Art Studio, just a short walk down the path, to browse the artwork created from materials from the surrounding landscape.

Weekend Trip to Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat

This is my second time at Abrams creek in two years. The amenities have improved over the last two years.Michael and Sara are super hosts and would love to return back when I can. Cozy cabin and ample space around the campfire to rest and relax. Michael is super informative about the amenities. Both of them greeted us with warm smile.Creek is accessible to all the cabins and the whole campgrounds seemed like winter wonderland.

Adorable little cabin with all the comforts you could imagine without electricity! Solar lights and electric candles, propane heat as well as an awesome little wood stove. We had a great time sitting around the fire outside. We also visited the Black-Coffey Cavern and had dinner at Gems in town.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, but also gave me the space I needed for my own private retreat. The cabin was cozy, warm, and comfortable. It was a lovely setting with plenty of options for hiking about half an hour away in different directions.

2 nights at Ferns in the Forest

Me and my partner chose to rent this cabin for thanksgiving. It was absolutely fabulous, the cabin is so cozy, the composting toilet did not bring any smell, the shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the bed was the best part of the trip. I cannot wait to rent this again. Virgil and his wife were also very welcoming. I highly recommend renting this property.

We loved staying at Myra's cabin. Comfy beds, clean, good shower, and responsive host. There is a spiral staircase that took us a bit to get used to, but we all did, kids included. Great location between Cleveland & DC.

Weekend Trip to Ferns in the Forest

Virgil & Pam really go above and beyond at The Fern House! The cabin was comfy and stocked with everything one could need for an extended weekend away. Our hosts were generous and gracious. They provide great communication and hospitality. We spent 3 nights and wish it could've been longer! Our pups loved the mile walk around the property each morning plus great hiking spots nearby. We took advantage of the fireplace, local eatery suggestions, and the loft was the perfect hideaway for resting and waking to beautiful wooded views. We cant wait to come back!

The cabin was amazing and had everything and more! There were games, kitchen supplies, grill with a stove, and they provide firewood. Since we went in October we had a heated blanket and there was a space heater in there as well. Berkeley Springs is close by and they have nice restaurants and a farmers market on Sundays. Definitely will be going back!

Weekend Trip to Kona's Cabin

This wasn't camping...or even glamping, really. This is a small house in a smaller sized residential community. We could see other houses on either side and across the street easily, so it did not feel like a campsite. However, it's a cute little place that has nice accommodations and we were quite comfortable there. We used the charcoal grill one evening and had a fire in the small brick fire pit two out of the three nights we spent there. The location is convenient to Winchester, about 15-20 minutes away.

Weekend Trip to The Byrd's Nest on the River

Kara’s property is a lovely getaway in the woods. It has all the amenities you may need, and a little extra-like the very nice hot shower. If you are down at the campsite on the river, you have river views all the time, if you are up at the top, you can simply walk down and get a great view. Would stay again! The glamping option was very nice for when it started to pour down rain. We hung out, played games and still had a great time! Kara‘s instructions were clear and very helpful.
