The Neature Preserve

The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite. The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. Info about prescribed fire as well as other restoration practices and projects going on at The Neature Preserve can be found below. View more photos and learn more about the wildlife and plants that inhabit The Preserve as well as the habitat management plan on the "The Neature Preserve" Facebook page. Prescribed Fire: - The interior of the South Loop was burned for the first time (in recent history) on February 14, 2024 and again on April 17, 2025. - The interior of the North Loop, along with the similarly sized unit just east of the North Loop, was last burned April 11, 2023 Timber Management: - Future plans include a timber thinning to reduce canopy density, clear cutting some sections to be replanted in longleaf pine. Wetland/Bog Restoration: - Currently in progress: 1) Canopy and midstory reduction (cut, pile, and burn) to support native, understory species 2) Planting rare species, such as pitcher plants, to help improve their population size and genetic diversity

Our beautiful unique property has been in the family for 3 generations. Over the years, our family along with artists, musicians, & writers have come here to refresh and get inspiration from nature. But with Hipcamp, we've opened up for others to enjoy. We have walking trails, a pond where you can kayak, relax on the dock, or feed the huge fish (sorry no fishing allowed.) Also, on our property, there are swings, a tree house deck, obstacle course, fire pit area, wooden bridge, picnic table, and abundant bird life. There's also plenty of wide-open space where you can play frisbee, run, do yoga, and stargaze at night. There's plenty to do in this area, using the farm as your base. Claxton, our hometown, is a great friendly, small-town with grocery and hardware stores and restaurants. Many guests like to side-trip over to the towns of Statesboro, Metter, Vidalia, and Savannah, plus the Golden Isles.

Michael and Kimberly Duke bought a small cabin on the Canoochee River to enjoy as a family. They decided to list it on a vacation rental site. As this property was in full demand, another property became available to buy. As interest began to increase, the family decided open up the options for their visitors. At this current date, they have four cabins and a yurt, as well as, tent sites. We are excited about the yurt that was completed in August 2019. They are looking forward having another cabin in the near future. Learn more about this land: Spend a few days in a yurt on the bank of the Canoochee River! Locate a few miles from a small town. A beautiful small farm where we homestead. We have a large garden, including raised beds, and raise everything organically. No pesticides. We raise miniature horses, miniature Highland and Highland cross cattle, Kune Kune and Kune Kune cross pigs, as well as chickens and geese. We have a lovely 1+ acre pond in front of the main house, which is fully stocked with Brim, Channel Catfish and Largemouth Bass. This pond has a wonderful ecosystem and is home to Kingfishers, wood ducks, Storks, herons, egrets, and is a place where a nesting pair of Bald Eagles come for water, and an occasional fish. We have an in-ground swimming pool, and a paddle boat to take out on the pond. Whether you are looking for a quiet weekend get away, or a chance to experience farm life on a small homestead, this place has a lot to offer. We offer a canning class, making artisan bread, and a hayride (tractor pulled) around the property. Breakfast and lunch or breakfast and Dinner can be included in the stay at an additional charge. We have 2 large horses that can be fed carrots, loved on, petted, and the possibility of some riding. Gathering eggs, feeding the hens and pigs, playing with Titan the farm mascot (our Great Dane dog), or just relaxing around the pool, or around a fire pit, there is always something happening on our little farm. The lady of the house has her Serv Safe certification for preparing and serving food and has been a home chef for parties and catering for several years. A list of farm and house rules are provided at check in. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Magnolia Springs State Park camping guide

Overview

About

The natural springs at Magnolia State Park are icy cold, pumping water from the earth’s depths at 7 million gallons per day. Boardwalks and hiking trails meander through the springs, allowing you to search the area for elusive critters like gators, snakes, and turtles. If this doesn’t strike your fancy (not a fan of snakes?), there’s also a small lake for fishing, a splash pad for frolicking youngins, and a paved bike trail. You don’t have to be a camper to enjoy the park, though we’d highly recommend it—rental cottages mean all you have to do is pack your bags and hit the road.

Notable campgrounds

  • Tent, Trailer & RV Campsites: Nestled amid the park's natural beauty, these sites offer a classic camping experience.
  • Walk-In Campsites: For a more secluded adventure, these campsites provide a peaceful retreat.
  • Pioneer Campground: Ideal for larger groups seeking a rustic outdoor experience.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak seasons, to ensure your spot amid the park's serene landscape.
  • Consider weekday camping for better availability and a 30% discount on your stay.
  • Check for cancellations regularly as plans change and spots may open up.
  • Explore nearby camping options if the park's campgrounds are fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Magnolia Springs State Park is during spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer offers full access to all park activities but can be quite warm. Winters are cooler and less crowded, offering a quiet escape.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's operating hours, open from 7am to 10pm, and plan your visit accordingly.
  • Stay safe by keeping a respectful distance from wildlife, including the park's alligators.
  • Accessibility is a priority; inquire about facilities at the Visitor Center or call 478-982-1660.
  • Parking is $5 per vehicle, with annual passes available for frequent visitors.
  • Remember to pack essentials for outdoor activities, as the park offers a range of recreational options.
