Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. A locked gate with code access. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

We’re only 4 miles off Highway 101, far enough to enjoy peace and quiet without traffic noise. Wildlife is part of the experience here, so please stash your food at night to keep critters out of camp. Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore nearby—hiking and biking trails, the Trees of Mystery, Jet Boat Tours, and, of course, miles of redwood forest to get lost in. A few things to note: Firewood available Cell service can be spotty, depending on your carrier. Free Wi-Fi is available and reaches most of the campground. Electric car charging is $10 per charge. Please arrange ahead of time—50 amp service is limited, and you’ll need your own adapters. Well-behaved pets are welcome. Kids and laughter are always welcome. The Redwoods Bend Retreat is a place to get away from it all. Located on the Yurok reservation right on the Klamath River just outside Orick, CA, we are "off the grid", through a Redwood forest and over a mountain down into the Klamath River valley. We have a 5 acre meadow, and orchard with 50 trees, peaches pears, apples, cherries, plums, pluots, apricots and grapes. We are right on the Klamath river. It's a great place to come and recharge your internal batteries. There is no cellphone service and none of our sites have internet service. Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

Osprey’s Perch is set up well for serving as a base camp for local activities like hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, day hiking, or just spending time on the river at one of the few private access points in existence. Camp is set up in a way that enables you to roast some brussel sprouts, or bake a pie if you so desire. I mean, how many camps offer that! Learn more about this land: Osprey’s perch is a small campsite perched above the Salmon River. The pit toilet is just downhill from the camp at the end of a trail winding down through the meadow and to the right. There is private access to secluded swimming and fishing holes on the lower Salmon River down the meadow trail and to the left. A bridge provides shelter from rain if needed. The area is known for its world class steelhead fishing and is unparalleled in its natural beauty. The elk even stop by occasionally on a late winter/early spring morning if you are lucky enough to get the timing right… I hope you enjoy our most recently additions, tent pads on a nice deep bed of chips, and a dog run for your best friend!

Our Main House was built in 1952 and retains the flavor of the 50’s. It houses a kitchen, dining hall, a living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. Our log-built Lodge overlooks the Klamath River with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and wrap-around covered porch. Our Pumpkin and Blue Cottages. They are close to the double Yellow Shower house and toilets, and they have hot and cold running water, a propane cooktop, and a wood stove for heat. We do NOT have refrigeration, and our solar batteries or generator provides us lights at night. Campers who use our Cottages may use their own sleeping bags, but we have beds with mattresses and pillows and clean bedding. We also have an Upper Barn bedroom and half-bath rental. Our two-story Riverview Yurt appeals to folks who want a full kitchen, a private shower and flush toilet overlooking the Klamath river from our 50 x 50 foot upper deck. Luscious to sit outside and watch the river flow by during the day, and to let the water lull you to sleep at night. For families (up to 8), folks who like to fish, or old friends who just want a very special get-away. Each of our six campsites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Our Maple River, Grotto River and Pepperwood River sites overlook the gorgeous Klamath River. Our Morning Meadow, Orchard Meadow, and Deer Meadow sites are close to our 5 acre meadow where blacktail deer graze in the evenings. We have a Yellow double Shower House with two separate sides, each with a toilet, sink and shower and on demand hot water, so folks don't have to wait. There's also a new Camp Shower at the corner of the orchard for our campers, along with two outhouses for camper use, one at the bottom of the road down to the meadow, and another in the woods just past Deer Meadow Camp. We see lots of wildlife; silver foxes, a bald eagle and a family of river otters downstream, vultures, blue heron, occasionally an osprey will fly overhead clutching a freshly caught salmon and call to each other to brag about it! There are rare sightings of timid black bears who run from humans, but sometimes can be seen grazing in the meadow with the black-tail deer. We're surrounded by old logging trails made by the lumber companies 80 years ago when they clear cut the old growth redwood on our side of the mountain, and now it's completely reforested with 200 ft tall Doug Fir, Madrone, Cedar, Oak, other pine species and Pepper wood trees, and we have written permission from the Green Diamond company to allow guest to hike on their adjacent properties.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Jacob's Riverside Gem! It's rustic enough to feel adventurous and homey enough to feel warm and comfy in the winter. It's obvious that Jacob has put a lot of heart and soul into this little cabin because of all the artistic touches you will find throughout. The firewood was well stocked, the property was beautiful with many fresh fungi to observe, and the little kitchen was perfect for making delicious meals. The fridge is quite small with no freezer, so if you want to bring fresh food for cooking, I recommend bringing a cooler. The shower is not far from the cabin, so it's easy to get a hot shower in and run back inside to the warm cabin. Make sure to bring your own bath towel. The bathroom is farther from the cabin, but I enjoyed the walk there, especially at night when I could look at the stars. We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space very much, seeing as we visited in winter, but we definitely want to come back in the summer to enjoy all that this little cabin and the Smith River area has to offer. If you're looking for a quaint place to stay while adventuring in the area, you've found the right place!

Patti is the best! So responsive, kind and welcoming. The space is beautiful too, with big trees and the river near by. It was about 20 to get to the Newton B scenic Road. Don’t miss it! Traveled with our dog and 21’ travel trailer. No issues with access. Do note there are skunks around at night; they keep mole and voles populations down and are a part of the community too- just be aware. Also saw a few curios big neighbor dogs when we walked our pup up along the service road by the park in the morning. No trouble though. Had a great experience and would certainly stay again if we return. Thanks again Patti 🙏

Patrick and Maya are so great! Check in was super smooth and they even upgraded us to a better RV cause of some technical difficulties. The campground was private, cute, and nicely maintained. If we come back around to the area we would definitely camp there again. Also, the hiking trails are well kept and they had Starlink for speedy WiFi.

We loved our stay here!! The land is absolutely gorgeous, being right in the Redwoods and literally around the corner from the Trees of Mystery. The hosts, Patrick and Maya, were the sweetest humans and so much fun to chat with! They have a stocked camp store, a game room with tons of books, and ping pong and such, and a ton of cool Redwood trees and tree stumps scattered throughout the camp. Our tent site, #16, was just inside the forest but felt very private on the other side of the trees from the RVs. We are really looking forward to paying them another visit!

I absolutely love this Hipcamp! It's so private (you have your own driveway and gate) and feels very safe. Surrounded by trees and farmland. Lots of cute little amenities to enjoy while there. The ground is level enough that you can just pull right in and set up. The host is very kind and responsive. Also, I think there's an owl that lives here, and he was a joy to listen to. Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Cedar Bloom
Stayed in one of the A-frames with my two small dogs for a weekend and had a lovely time. It was a stormy, rainy couple of days in October, so I didn’t get to explore the property or surrounding area much, but that ended up being perfect since I had just come to relax anyway. Once I got set up inside (with some string lights, a hot water bottle, and a good book), it felt nice and cozy. I was glad to have brought the hot water bottle and a couple of extra blankets, b/c the temps inside were roughly the same as they were outside. The transparent panels make it feel like you’re sleeping among the trees, and the sound of rain on the roof was wonderful. The roof is corrugated steel, so the first time an acorn pinged off it I just about jumped out of my skin, but we got used to it quickly. Ultimately I think those noises were part of the charm. Saw some beautiful deer and lots of wild turkeys. As a woman camping solo, I felt very safe. The property isn’t completely remote (it’s tucked next to a neighborhood and there’s a private residence onsite) but it still has a peaceful, wilderness feel, especially in late October when there were fewer visitors. For anyone curious (since I couldn’t find this info beforehand), each A-frame has its own fire ring and picnic table. Thank you for the great weekend!

This little camper checks all the boxes: Quiet, private, clean, solid roof to keep you dry and warm, SUPER comfy bed, and the softest sheets. If you want the campground experience without the camping then look no further. Birdie is low frills, but has everything you need. Yes, you can hear the 101 during the day, but it's pretty much dead silent at night (the campground has electric hook-ups so you won't hear generators running). It's beautiful, there's a redwood to greet you in the morning...what more could you want!

I love this place. I’ll stay here any chance I get. It’s lovely. Spacious camp sites. Hot tea and coffee area. The river. The outdoor showers. And the A frames are so cool! But I recommend arriving in the daylight if it’s your first time. I came after dark and I’m pretty sure I would have been lost if I didn’t already know my way around. It’s not well lit at night. Makes for good sleep— but def bring a head lamp.

There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). We’re only 4 miles off Highway 101, far enough to enjoy peace and quiet without traffic noise. Wildlife is part of the experience here, so please stash your food at night to keep critters out of camp. Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore nearby—hiking and biking trails, the Trees of Mystery, Jet Boat Tours, and, of course, miles of redwood forest to get lost in. A few things to note: Firewood available Cell service can be spotty, depending on your carrier. Free Wi-Fi is available and reaches most of the campground. Electric car charging is $10 per charge. Overview

About

The northernmost of California's redwood parks, the densely-forested Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is home to seven percent of the world's old-growth redwoods, spread out over more than 5,500 acres. It's a popular spot for hiking and camping, and the park’s location on the Smith River makes it an ideal destination for fishing and summertime swimming. The park has four cabins and 89 campsites, each with a picnic table, a fire ring, and a bear box, and while there are no RV hookups here, some sites can accommodate motorhomes up to 36 feet in length.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis from October until early May and are available for reservation from May through September. Cabins are reservable year-round.
  • You can reserve campsites and cabins using the online ReserveCalifornia system, or by calling California State Parks.
  • Cabins and campsites go live at 8am, six months in advance.
  • Hike-in and bike-in campsites are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If you arrive at the campground to find it full or have trouble reserving a site, you may have better luck at Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park or at one of the area's private campgrounds or Hipcamps.

When to go

The best time to visit the park is from July through September, when temperatures are at their warmest and rainfall is at its lowest. July and August tend to get more crowds due to summer vacation, while September tends to be the sweet spot if you're looking for warm weather and fewer crowds. Peak fishing season is from October to February, but if you come between late fall and the end of spring, be prepared for a lot of rain.

Know before you go

  1. The nearest place to pick up groceries and supplies or fill up your gas tank is Crescent City, an 8-minute drive from the park.
  2. Make sure to pack out all garbage and keep food, beverages, cookware, and toiletries in the provided bear-resistant lockers.
  3. Firewood is available for sale from the camp hosts, but gathering firewood in the park is prohibited.
  4. The visitor center, cabins, and many of the campsites and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
  5. While fishing is allowed in the Smith River, there are restrictions, and anyone over age 16 must carry a license. Details are available through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend a few nights exploring the Redwoods. It's very close to a few fantastic groves. It was quiet, and I felt very safe being a single female traveler. No hookups for electricity - at least not at campsite 4, but there was water and a bin to store food and trash for curious bears. For $35 a night, you can't beat it! There was also a beautiful nature trail around the area. The Smith River is nearby and worth checking out too.

Report from your Shirtless Host Steve This is the last large state park before you get into Oregon.. It is off HWY 199. A must to stop at It has camping hiking fishing swimming in the Smith River And the Howland hill Rd. A must to drive though. Off this Rd. Is the Stout Grove Loop also the Boy Scout tree trail and off Hwy. 199 is Simpson Reed Grove Loop If you primitive camping ( get a access permit ) take little bald hill trail Unbeleaveable hike both in and out Out the back of the camp is a foot bridge. ( summer only ) is a hoot Over the Smith This park will accommodate R.Vs up 36 ft. No hookups Camping is fun but family camping is the best So bring your friends and family and camp at Jedediah Smith

Much preferred this Jedediah Smith campground over Gold Bluffs campground in Redwoods National Park. Nothing beats waking up in a majestic redwood grove! It is a busy campground, but most of the sites seemed to be spaced adequately apart with plenty of greenery to provide seclusion. Close access to the river and to Stout Grove nature walk.

Report from your Shirtless Host on Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park If you headed south from Oregon or north to Oregon on Hwy 101 or east or west on Hwy 199. You have to stop and camp at this Park. This park has a few of the tallest Red Woods in the World. Also this is a 5 star park in it self. The camp grounds are clean and it has Cabins, hiking trails, the Smith River running though it. Camp sites right on the river it most likely an adventure of a life time for you and your family! You are right in the middle of the redwoods so be ready for redwood dust. But that's the price you pay for such a beautiful place. Don't forget it is pay showers. Things to do is kayaking,wild life viewing and visitor center Shirtless Host Steve

Well worth the drive! Beautiful campground, every site feels secluded. Snag a river site if you can. Warm clean showers to boot - bring quarters. Check out Hiouchi Café for pancakes so large they spill over the side of the plate. Nearby Stout Grove is a must for ancient trees, take in the stillness.

We LOVED this campground! We camped at one of the walk-in sites and it was 100% worth it...the walk isn't even that far (as in, I could basically still see my car!). Giant Redwoods, beautiful ferns and foliage surround every campsite. Each site has its own character! The river is a short walk from the campground and absolutely beautiful. We were also impressed with the very nice bathrooms and showers! This was the most magical and relaxing campground in the Redwoods. We will definitely be back!

Incredible place. There are sites on the river and sites in the redwoods, honestly they are all fantastic. My husband and I actually stayed in one of the cabins here overnight on a whim - the cabins are equipped with fo-fireplace that pumps out heat (we stayed on Christmas night in December) it was warm and adorable. They have lights, a broom, a fan, 4 bunks, and a perfect shelf for all your cooking and supplies. The place was 100% spotless which I always appreciate. The cabins were accessable too! A fire pit and a grill were ready to use. Giant red woods towered over us. It was one of the best camp sites I've ever stayed at.

This is one of our favorite spots to camp in the Redwoods. My wife and I are back in Florida now and man, we do miss this spot. If your lucky enough to camp close to the river then do it. You can here the flow of the Smith all night. The sights have Bear proof food lockers, fire pits, clean showers and restrooms. A plus!!

Easily one of my favorite sites on a cross country trip from New York to Los Angeles. The river was very accessible, and a beautiful place to relax and swim. There are a decent amount of sites, but most are separated by massive Red Wood trees. The campground was only a short drive to Crescent City which is an awesome place to get a nice dinner. I can't wait to go back.

Easy drive-up campsites, quick (5 minute) walk to the river. Close to some amazing hiking spots, and surprisingly close to the Oregon border. Sites have picnic tables and bear lockers, and hot showers (with coins)/restrooms. Sites are relatively close to one another, and there are lots of families with kids.

The Smith River is one of the best places ever for swimming! It's cold, but also amazing clear. We hiked up the river on the trail the runs along side, and then floated back down to our campsite. Perfection.

Howland Hill Road is steep and has a good amount of potholes. While you don’t need a 4x4, you are limited to around 10 mph and need to look out for oncoming traffic.
