Weekend Trip to Ferns in the Forest

Virgil & Pam really go above and beyond at The Fern House! The cabin was comfy and stocked with everything one could need for an extended weekend away. Our hosts were generous and gracious. They provide great communication and hospitality. We spent 3 nights and wish it could've been longer! Our pups loved the mile walk around the property each morning plus great hiking spots nearby. We took advantage of the fireplace, local eatery suggestions, and the loft was the perfect hideaway for resting and waking to beautiful wooded views. We cant wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Laurel Rock LLC # 2

What a sweet couple and adorable area they are creating! There is a hotdog stand, with an outdoor patio, where you pick up your key. Then, you climb a gravel hill to your place. We had Cabin #1 which was decorated with cactuses. It was warm and cozy with lots of space inside. We got settled in nicely and ventured off to Tygart Lake State Park. Thank You for a nice welcome and a cute place to stay for the night.

beautiful campsite! there are lovely trails near by. my only recommendation is to check the weather!! firewood may be a little wet depending on when your camping. besides that? 10/10

Nice and quiet and secluded. Firewood was there. It was a cold night and was able to setup my tent no problem and park onsite. Directions to site were accurate. Note there is no phone service there, which was not an issue. Had the best night of sleep Ive had in years.

This is a great spot to tent camp under the trees, enjoy a campfire (with firewood supplied!), and stargaze at a relatively secluded spot. The hike down to the creek is beautiful! I would definitely return to this spot.

We had a girls camping weekend at the farm, and it was an absolute blast! There was plenty of open space to create our own setup, we were far enough away from the city and close enough to Ohio Pyle to go hiking Saturday morning. Maggie was incredibly responsive and helpful when planning for our weekend. We will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat

From Charleston , WV / (Mid October - high 75/ low 45) Spent my birthday weekend tent camping here and it was wonderful. Arrived almost before dark, but check in was helpful and easy to coordinate a spot. Thanks to Rusty (the beagle). We set up at Camp Spot 34. Parking next to the spot was nice, and the spot had all the things shown in the photos. Fire pit rock ring, bench, picnic table and plenty of spots for tent area. We only had one other neighboring tent adventurers that were at Camp Spot 31. These Camp site locations are very spread open and away from each other. The creek along side is very soothing and perfect fill the sounds of camping. “Babbling Brooke” we had a few cat visitors to our site while around the campfire. They were very sweet and had collars, so we assumed they belong to a local in the area. They were probably just checking on us if we need anything. The next morning we woke up to rain but the tree coverage helped with tent take down and clean up. Once we were packed up and ready to head out, we ventured down to the creek to explore and walk on the rocks. Was very beautiful site and will be visiting in the summer. 10/10

Had a wonderful experience at Laurel Highlands! Maggie is a super friendly and attentive host, and the space was perfect for our needs. It’s not as tucked away as some other campsites we’ve been to, but that did not dampen the experience at all. It’s a bit elevated from the surrounding area and it was really cool to see the fog roll into the lower elevations at night. Some of the space is on a slight incline but it did not affect our ability to find a good spot for our tents or placement of our cots. I will definitely be planning to return again!

Weekend Trip to Ferns in the Forest

We absolutely loved staying in the Fernhouse!! It was perfect. It was adorable and so cozy. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was wonderful! So close to hiking trails and lots of outdoor recreation. The hike around the property was beautiful and our dogs loved walking it with us in the morning. The outdoor area is super cozy too. Virgil was so kind and welcoming. We will be back again in another season!! I would highly recommend.

Donnie's property is truly an unexpected little slice of heaven. From the property and amenities, to the welcomed animal interruptions during our detailed tour at the courtesy of Donnie...this place is truly something special. Although during our stay we were doing what some would classify as "glamping"; the amount of amenities and relaxing feeling they create makes it feel more like a country resort. We will definitely be back!

Tommy's place is gorgeous land! There are nice fields and woods. It felt entirely safe for women to camp alone. It was easy to find using the instructions and we didn't need 4wd. Would definitely go back! Tommy is delightful and didn't make fun of me when I said I saw a big bear. It was really a cow in the neighbor's pasture, way off in the distance.

Sunsets and sunrises often seen and photos taken by many guests. Mostly grass with some gravel areas. Plenty of space for dogs to run and play. Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Read the entire narrative on the cabin (Tiny Fern House) before booking.

Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. It’s impossible to overstay your welcome at Coopers Rock, the state park that got its name from the legend of a famous fugitive who turned his hidden nook of the forest into a barrel workshop! Not to worry, the 12,713 acres of lush timber are fugitive-free these days, though a day hike through the nearby labyrinth of rocks and cliffs at Cheat River Gorge offers a panorama view so damn stunning it might just be illegal. Come in June, for trails abloom with rhododendron and mountain laurel; an observant eye might just spot an owl, fox or deer as well. For hikers that seek variety above all, Coopers Rock is the cream of the crop with trails that bend across mountain ridges and valleys, twist along creeks, and wind through rocky boulders and tall cliffs. Henry Clay Iron Furnace Trail is exactly what you’d expect—a wooded trail that sends you back in time to the 1800s, when this stone furnace was used to produce iron. When you just can’t bear to leave Coopers Rock, head to the Overlook Trading Post for a souvenir and one last picnic over the awe-inspiring gorge.
